I know I’m about 20 years late to watching this series for the first time, but if you’re in the same boat and are thinking about listening to this podcast alongside your watch, I want to give you a heads-up: there are a lot of spoilers.
I actually enjoyed listening to the podcast as a refresher after finishing an episode or even a season. It was fun hearing the hosts’ perspectives, and I really liked their chemistry and the effort they put into each episode.
That said, I did have a few criticisms. I felt like some of the episode recaps weren’t as detailed as I expected and skipped over some major moments. At times, it also felt like the hosts would spend a long time dissecting one specific scene while glossing over other important parts of the episode. I would’ve preferred a more balanced recap of the episode as a whole.
I also think it was a missed opportunity not to include more behind-the-scenes interviews with Matthew Weiner or some of the writers and directors. Hearing more about the creative process and production would’ve added so much to the podcast.
I’m also a little disappointed that there was never a true final episode. Since it’s now 2026 and the podcast ended in 2023, it would’ve been nice to have one last wrap-up reflecting on the series as a whole.
My biggest warning, though, is about the spoilers. If you’re a first-time viewer like I was, be careful. The hosts occasionally mention future storylines without much warning. In several episodes, they’ll reveal something from a later season and only afterward say something like, “Oh, that’s a spoiler,” or, “Oops, that’s not until a later episode.” By then, it’s already too late.
So if you’re trying to experience the series without knowing what’s coming, I’d recommend either listening after you’ve watched the entire show or being prepared for the fact that major future plot points may be spoiled along the way.
