    The Joy of Being Nothing

Description: Anna reflects on a paradox at the heart of the Christian faith: true exaltation comes through embracing our own "nothingness" before God. Drawing from Andrew Murray's classic work on humility, she invites listeners into a posture of surrender — becoming empty vessels so God's glory can fill and flow through them. Key Points: We tend to resist admitting weakness, but the Christian call is to decrease so Christ can increase (John the Baptist's model) Humility isn't about earthly reward — the "exaltation" God promises is deeper abiding with Him, not achievement or status Christ himself walked the earth as "nothing," a vessel of the Father — this is our model Andrew Murray: the emptier we are before God, the fuller and faster His glory flows in Invitation: each morning, sink into the "nothingness" of Christ's grave in prayer (posture matters — kneeling, face down, arms outstretched) as an act of surrender Scripture Referenced: James 4:10 / 1 Peter 5:6 (paraphrased: "Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up") John 3:30 (paraphrased: "He must increase, I must decrease") Books & Resources Mentioned: Humility by Andrew Murray - https://a.co/d/021OLXTa The True Vine by Andrew Murray - https://a.co/d/0eB5eqbe   Let's Talk Coaching! Buried, Not Broken: Finding Freedom After Trauma with Mia Godfrey

Description Anna sits down with Mia Godfrey — certified Life Coach, Bible Counselor, speaker, and author — for a raw conversation about surviving trauma, addiction, grief, and rebuilding faith and identity from the ground up. Mia shares her journey from communist Romania to the U.S., losing her father and first husband, caring for her dying sister, and how community and surrender — not self-improvement — became her path to healing. A powerful reminder that our brokenness doesn't disqualify us; it qualifies us to serve. Key Points Mia grew up under Romania's communist regime, facing extreme food/water/heat restrictions and government control After her father's death at 18, she struggled with alcohol addiction in silence and shame Moved to the U.S. in 2008 to marry her first husband, a Knoxville police officer; he passed in 2015 Lost her Romanian citizenship and couldn't return home, later replaced addiction with overworking (3 jobs) In 2023, caring for and losing her sister to ovarian cancer became a turning point — learning she "couldn't do this alone" Healing came through community: neighbors leaving food, sitting with her in grief, small acts of presence Key theme: "It didn't happen to me, it happened for me" — reframing hardship as purpose Discusses "idols" of identity — her years-long attachment to high heels as a symbol of control/confidence, and the freedom of letting go Remarried in 2020 to her husband Gabra; co-authored Second Sunrise Together on trust, marriage, and blended families Runs the "Reset to Purpose Retreat," helping women identify the false beliefs trauma creates Central message: brokenness qualifies us to serve — surrender means giving God the outcome, not the self-focus Scripture Mentioned Proverbs 3:5–6 — "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding." We Can't Fight a Battle on All Fronts

Description: In this solo encouragement episode, Anna reminds listeners that they don't have to excel in every area of life at once — especially during transitional seasons like back-to-school. Drawing on the phrase "you cannot fight a battle on all fronts," she offers permission to let lesser priorities slide while focusing energy on the one or two areas that matter most right now. Key Points: You can only fight one battle well at a time — identify your "unique front" today and let other things wait. Big rocks to consider: chronic illness, aging parents, marriage struggles, job stress, kids' transitions. The "keep the ship afloat" metaphor — in a storm, you don't need to stay on course, just stay upright. "Dying at the door" — meltdowns often hit right before relief (e.g., bedtime), because we're running on empty, not because the moment itself is a crisis. Releasing expectations of others is an act of love, not a concession — modeled by Christ, who needed nothing from us to be "okay." Weaknesses aren't failures — they're often the flip side of your unique gifts, and God fills the gaps through other people. If life feels ordinary/stable, ask: where am I called to grow (not just survive)?   Let's Talk Coaching! Are you ready to close the gap between where you are and where you feel called to go? Calming the Storm: Finding Clarity in the Midst of Chaos

Episode Description When a decision keeps looping in your mind — the school choice, the hard conversation, the family rhythm that never quite sticks — Anna walks listeners through a live coaching session designed to bring real clarity, not just more to-do's. Using tools she uses with her own coaching clients, she guides listeners through reframing a stuck decision through time, perspective, values, and faith. Key Points Time Travel: Project 90 days to a year+ into the future and look back at today. Ask: "What will make me glad I took this step?" Clarifies what you truly value when fear and logistics fall away. The Lamp: You don't need the whole path lit — just the next step. God's Word is "a lamp to my feet," not a floodlight for the next 10 years. Release the pressure to solve the whole decision at once. Milk vs. Meat: Some seasons need firm, black-and-white rules; more mature seasons may allow more freedom. Discern which season you're in rather than defaulting to old restrictions. Values Check: Identify your 2–3 core values (Anna's: courage, stewardship, belonging) and hold the decision up against them. Which option reflects growth, not just safety? Name the Story: Every stuck decision usually has an unexamined belief behind it — listen for what follows "because." Ask "based on what?" to challenge assumptions and judgments. What Do I Need to Know/Believe?: Ask what you need to believe about yourself, others, God, or the decision itself to move forward — often surfaces trust issues hiding underneath. Core reminder: we don't control outcomes, only how we show up — faithfully, courageously, surrendered. Scripture Referenced Psalm 119:105 — "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" Mark 12:30–31 — Love the Lord your God... love your neighbor as yourself 1 Corinthians 8 / Romans 14 (paraphrased) — meat sacrificed to idols; freedom vs. conscience Hebrews 5 (paraphrased) — milk vs. meat, spiritual maturity Psalm 73 (referenced) — "Why do the wicked prosper?" The Unfamiliar Face in the Mirror: Coming Back to Yourself in Times of Transition with Mandy Horne

Episode Description Have you ever caught your reflection and thought, I don't even recognize her anymore? In this episode of this Christian podcast for women, Anna sits down with holistic nurse coach Mandy Horne to talk about the sacred — and often disorienting — season of midlife transition. Mandy, founder of Wellspring of Life Coaches, brings 25 years of nursing wisdom and her own empty-nest, caregiving journey to unpack why so many of us feel caught between who we were and who God is calling us to become. Together, they talk hormone shifts, "peace leaks," and the one faithful next step that changes everything. If you've been telling yourself "everything's fine, but…" — this conversation is your permission slip to stop settling for fine. Key Takeaways Feeling like you don't recognize yourself anymore isn't a crisis to fix — it's often an invitation into a sacred season of transition. Midlife brings an identity shift, not just a life change; you can be pulling away from an old role before you've fully stepped into the new one God has for you. Hormonal shifts in perimenopause and menopause genuinely intensify emotions like anxiety and low mood — understanding the physical piece brings freedom, not shame. Restoration always starts with reconnecting to the Father first; you can't rebuild identity or hormones or habits on a foundation that isn't rooted in Christ. "Peace leaks" happen when we over-commit, people-please, or carry burdens the Lord never asked us to carry. You don't need the whole ten-year blueprint from God — He gives enough light for the next faithful step, and that's enough. Trying five new supplements, habits, or fixes at once makes it impossible to know what's actually working; one change at a time, held with consistency, brings clarity. Much of our peace leaks out when we carry what belongs to someone else — our children's choices, our parents' choices, outcomes that were never ours to control. Being in the Word doesn't require an hour of silence and a candle; it can happen in the midst of the madness, a verse at a time, snatched between the demands of the day. Reconnect, Restore, Rise: reconnecting with God is the solid rock every season of restoration and forward movement stands on. Scriptures Referenced Psalm 119:105 — "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path" — the anchor scripture for the whole episode, reminding listeners that God gives enough light for one step at a time, not the whole map. John 15 (referenced via Andrew Murray's The True Vine*) — used to unpack the idea that pruning isn't punishment, it's preparation for a new season.* 2 Corinthians 10:5 (referenced conversationally as "take your thoughts captive") — used to address the scattered, overloaded thought-life so many midlife women experience. Planning for the Day You Pray Never Comes

Episode Description We all have that item living on our to-do list forever — the one we keep pushing off. In this episode, Anna steps out of the usual heart-space conversation and into practical, "nuts and bolts" territory: getting your affairs in order. Drawing on her background in law and her own family's experience with sudden, life-altering illness, Anna walks through life insurance, disability insurance, long-term care insurance, and the four key estate documents every family needs. It's not a fun topic, but as Anna puts it, it's one of the most tangible acts of love we can offer the people we care about. Not legal or financial advice — just Anna sharing what she's learned through personal experience and working with professionals. Key Points Term life insurance, whole life, and variable life: For most families, term life insurance offers a lower cost, while investing the savings elsewhere often provides better returns. Rule of thumb: Have coverage of at least 10 times your lost income, and lock in rates while you're young. Disability insurance replaces approximately 60% of your income tax-free. Long-term care insurance is best secured in your 50s; Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) are an alternative for guaranteed lifetime care. Four core estate documents: Durable Power of Attorney, Healthcare Power of Attorney/Advance Directive, Will, and Revocable Trust. Name at least three backup people for Power of Attorney, guardianship, and trustee roles. For guardianship, list individuals rather than couples to avoid complications, and include a letter explaining your reasoning. Trusts can protect children from receiving large sums too young — Anna delays distributions until ages 30 and 35. Keep beneficiary designations consistent across all accounts. Make sure someone besides you and your spouse has access to key logins and accounts.   Let's Talk Coaching! Are you ready to close the gap between where you are and where you feel called to go? From Holistic to WHOLENESS - Loving Your Body into Health with Brook Sheehan

Episode Description Sweet friend, have you ever felt like your body is working against you, like it's something to manage, fix, or fight rather than something God actually designed with wisdom? On this episode of the Christian purpose podcast Overwhelmed to Overcomer, Anna sits down with Dr. Brook Sheehan, chiropractor, functional wellness expert, and creator of the Body OS Blueprint, for an honest, funny, and deeply theological conversation about what happens when we stop hacking our health and start listening to it. Brook shares her own journey out of "toxic wellness culture" (28 supplements and all), unpacks the Hebrew concepts of sark and soma to show why your body isn't your enemy, and offers a simple, Spirit-led practice for building real trust with the body God gave you. This is a Christian life coaching conversation about stewardship, peace over pressure, and remembering that the God who formed you also indwells you. He's not asking you to earn your health through striving.   Key Takeaways Your body was designed by God with wisdom and intelligence. It isn't something to hack, control, or be at war with, but something to be honored as His image-bearing masterpiece. "Toxic wellness culture" can quietly become its own form of idolatry, pulling us into obsession, control, and self-worship instead of trust in the Lord. Building a relationship with your body works the same way any relationship does: through consistency, small conversations, and time, not instant mastery. When you can't hear a clear answer from your body, take it to the Holy Spirit first. He is the ultimate authority you were always meant to consult. The Hebrew word sark (flesh) refers to sinful, disordered desire that leads us away from God, while soma (body) is the God-designed, image-bearing vessel He loves and calls good. Scripture actually reverences the body in remarkable detail, from the liver, kidneys, and diaphragm named in Leviticus's sacrifices to Paul's description of the church as one body in 1 Corinthians. Fixing one "hole in the fence," one root issue, often brings healing to other symptoms too, because our bodies were never designed to function like disconnected machines. True healing and healthy habits should flow from a place of peace, not pressure. It's a phrase worth sitting with any time a wellness routine starts to feel like striving. The enemy of your peace often isn't the supplement or the workout itself. It's forum-shopping outside voices instead of anchoring first in the Lord and in your own body's God-given wisdom. Gratitude, even on the hard, achy, no-good-sleep days, is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to steward the body God entrusted to you. Scriptures Referenced Ecclesiastes 3:1: "To everything there is a season." This anchors the conversation's reminder that supplements, food, and body needs shift with seasons of life rather than staying fixed forever. Psalm 139:13–14: "You formed my inward parts." This connects to the Hebrew concept of the kidneys as the seat of conscience, showing how intimately and intentionally God designed the body. Jeremiah 17:10: "The Lord tests the heart and the kidneys." This is used to illustrate how much nuance and physical and spiritual meaning gets lost in translation from Hebrew to English. Leviticus (sacrificial offerings, e.g. Leviticus 3:3–4): Referenced for God's specific request for the liver, kidneys, and fatty lobe of the liver (diaphragm) in Old Testament offerings, painting a picture of how seriously God regards the body. 1 Corinthians 12:12–27: Paul's body-as-church analogy is cited to show Scripture's reverence for the human body as intentionally designed, with each part being necessary. Galatians 5:16–24 (referenced conceptually): Discusses the crucifying of the flesh (sark), distinguished from the honoring of the body (soma). Genesis 2:7: God forming man from the dust of the ground is cited as the foundation of a biblical theology of the body and the goodness of physical creation.   Resources Mentioned  Website - https://drbrooksheehan.com/  Instagram: @drbrooksheehan  Love Thy Body by Nancy Pearcey - https://a.co/d/01bfPfZi    Let's Talk Coaching! About

Do you have big dreams rooted in an even bigger God … but most days, those dreams seem impossibly far out of reach? Welcome to Overwhelmed to Overcomer podcast, where we unpack and celebrate the unique purpose the Lord has given each of us, and how we can walk it out more fully - with deeper JOY - today, right in the midst of the madness. Together, we will come to trust the Father's deep love for us and our incredible value as one of His children, called to steward well the gifts He's given us … we will unpack and walk out our own unique, God-given purpose … and we will encourage one another to operate in that purpose in our daily lives with courage, leaning into the support of fellow sojourners. In this podcast, you'll find practical, tactical steps; honest conversations; and my-heart-to-yours invitations to rest and receive at the feet of the God who sees you as you steward well His calling for your life. The Lord has called us to do a thing - and He'll not only equip us, but also fortify and fuel us along the way. So, let's dig into this conversation of belonging … purpose … and courage. Sweet friend, your. life. MATTERS. So, if you're here for this, I'm here for you! Let's do this thing. With clarity. With courage. With each other.
