Your Worst Failure Isn't the End of Your Story With God (Peter's Charcoal Fire)

In today's Daily Hope, Pastor John S. Dickerson reads John 21, where Jesus appears to His discouraged disciples after the resurrection. Peter and the others go fishing and catch nothing all night, echoing the same failed night from when Jesus first called Peter years earlier. Then Jesus calls out from the shore, tells them where to cast their net, and the catch is so large they can barely haul it in. The moment Peter realizes it's Jesus, he doesn't hide in shame, he rushes to get to Him. Pastor Dickerson points out a detail easy to miss: the last time Peter stood near a charcoal fire, he was denying he even knew Jesus. Now Jesus is standing beside another one, cooking him breakfast. Jesus deliberately recreates the scene of Peter's biggest failure, not to shame him, but to turn it into a place of grace. If you've failed God in a way that still haunts you, this episode is a picture of how Jesus meets you there too. Text "DAILY" to 71093 to receive Daily Hope videos sent to your phone every day. Feel Like You've Given Up on Yourself? Jesus Calls Peter Again

In today's Daily Hope, Pastor John S. Dickerson invites you to think of Peter as a model for yourself. Looking back on Peter's story, from the day Jesus calls him to the day he is named the rock on which the church will be built, Pastor John reminds us that Peter's walk had ups and downs. Some moments were wonderful, and some felt weird and confusing. Some listeners may be right where Peter was later: you have journeyed with Jesus, but you have given up on yourself, and Jesus is recalling you to drop your nets again and go all in. Pastor John then lets Scripture speak, reading Luke 5. Jesus teaches from Peter's boat on the Sea of Galilee, then tells Peter, who has caught nothing all night, to go out where it is deeper. Peter obeys even though it does not make sense, and the nets fill until they begin to tear. Peter falls to his knees, calling himself a sinful man, and Jesus says do not be afraid, from now on you will be fishing for people. They leave everything and follow him. Tomorrow, Pastor John reads the bookend passage, Peter's restoration in John 21. Text "DAILY" to 71093 to receive Daily Hope videos sent to your phone every day. Do You Love Jesus Imperfectly? Why God Chose Peter, Not the Pharisees

In today's Daily Hope, Pastor John S. Dickerson skips ahead from Luke 5 to the end of the gospels, to the moment Jesus restores Peter after Peter denied him three times. On a seashore, Jesus asks Peter three times, do you love me? It echoes the day Jesus first called Peter from his fishing boat, a poetic set of bookends. Peter, repenting, admits that Jesus knows everything, including how imperfect his love is. Jesus is not choosing Peter because of the quality of his love or faithfulness, but because Jesus loves him, and because Peter makes an effort at consistent love, not perfection. Then Pastor John traces what happened next: 120 afraid believers praying kingdom prayers and repenting, the Holy Spirit showing up, and a movement growing to thousands and spreading across the earth. Jesus did not choose a religious leader to lead it. The Pharisees saw Jesus raise people from the dead and still missed out, because they thought they were good enough. In Luke 5:32, Jesus says he came for those who know they are sinners and need to repent. That ongoing repentance is a daily posture of humility. So which are you more like lately, the Pharisee or Peter? Text "DAILY" to 71093 to receive Daily Hope videos sent to your phone every day. Download the CP+ Spiritual Fitness App for more. Do You Have Any Friends Who Don't Know Jesus? A Pastor's Honest Confession

In today's Daily Hope, Pastor John S. Dickerson begins with a confession. Before he was a pastor, he was a journalist. His coworkers were his friends, they came from many different beliefs and backgrounds, and they all knew he was a devoted follower of Jesus. He misses those friendships and the dinners at their homes. Now, with a full ministry and kids he is trying to disciple, it takes real intentionality and discipline to build friendships with people who do not know Jesus. Pastor John returns to Luke 5, where Jesus says he came for those who know they are sinners and need to repent. If you work or study around people who do not follow Christ, he encourages you to see it as a privilege and an opportunity to shine the light of Christ. If you are surrounded by believers, he asks whether you need to change your rhythms or simply open your eyes at the coffee shop, the gym, and the grocery store. Since beginning this revival journey, praying through a salvation prayer list has opened his eyes to people he now sees with brokenhearted boldness. And he knows he still has room to grow. How about you? Think on that today. Text "DAILY" to 71093 to receive Daily Hope videos sent to your phone every day. Download the CP+ Spiritual Fitness App for more. You Don't Have To Clean Up Your Life Before Coming To Jesus | Why He Ate Dinner With 'Sinners'

In today's Daily Hope, Pastor John S. Dickerson walks through one of the most socially explosive moments in Luke chapter 5. After Jesus calls Levi the tax collector to be His disciple, Levi throws a huge banquet in his own home with Jesus as the guest of honor, surrounded by fellow tax collectors and people everyone considered "sinners." The religious leaders are appalled and confront Jesus's disciples: "Why do you eat and drink with such scum?" Jesus's answer captures the heart of the Gospel: "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent." Pastor John points out how uncomfortable this moment must have been for Peter, James, John, and Andrew, suddenly surrounded by the exact kind of people they'd normally avoid. But that discomfort is often exactly where God is at work. You don't have to clean up your life or feel good enough before coming to Jesus—He came specifically for the people who know they're not okay. Does Dying To Yourself Mean Your Life Gets Worse? Jesus Says The Opposite | Deny Yourself, Take Up Your Cross

In today's Daily Hope, Pastor John S. Dickerson unpacks Jesus's words: "Whoever would come after me must deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow me." Some Christian traditions turn this into a checklist of suffering, as if joy and following Jesus can't coexist. Pastor John reminds listeners that the fruit of the Spirit includes love, joy, and peace—following God is a joyful adventure, even in the moments He calls us to die to our pride, our ego, or our own agenda. Here's the lie to watch for: the enemy wants you to believe that dying to yourself means your life gets worse. In reality, joy follows surrender. Jesus put it this way: whoever tries to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for His sake will truly find it—real purpose, real fulfillment, real joy. Whatever it is God is asking you to lay down today—an assumption, a grudge, your pride, your comfort—this episode is an encouragement that joy is waiting on the other side. Struggling To Forgive Someone Who Actually Hurt You? Jesus Went Straight To Him

In today's Daily Hope, Pastor John S. Dickerson explains who Levi the tax collector really was: not a generic sinner, but a man who extorted his own Jewish neighbors, backed by violent Roman soldiers, and got wealthy off their suffering while families went hungry. His tax booth was likely the single most emotionally triggering location in the whole village. And that is exactly where Jesus walks, straight up to Levi, and says "follow me and be my disciple." Pastor John points out that if you keep obeying God on this revival journey, He will eventually lead you to extend grace to someone who genuinely doesn't deserve it, someone who actually hurt you, and it will contradict everything you used to think was fair. Feeling Spiritually Stuck? It Might Be One Thing You're Not Obeying

In today's Daily Hope, Pastor John S. Dickerson gets personal about his own revival journey, admitting his highs have been higher than ever and his lows lower than ever. He shares that when things start to feel stagnant, boring, or stale, it's almost always a sign of what he calls an "obedience barrier," something God has clearly asked of you, whether it's praying for someone on your list, having a hard conversation, or walking away from a sin you keep excusing, that you know about but keep avoiding. Pastor John ties this to Jesus's call to Levi in Luke 5. Jesus didn't say "believe in me and feel good." He said "follow me and become my disciple." Obedience, not information, is what actually keeps revival alive. Text "DAILY" to 71093 to receive Daily Hope videos sent to your phone every day. Download the CP+ Spiritual Fitness App for more.
