Time to Wake Up: Truly, Truly

ACTS 20:1-12 (NIV) 1) When the uproar had ended, Paul sent for the disciples and, after encouraging them, said goodbye and set out for Macedonia. 2) He traveled through that area, speaking many words of encouragement to the people, and finally arrived in Greece, 3) where he stayed three months. Because some Jews had plotted against him just as he was about to sail for Syria, he decided to go back through Macedonia. 4) He was accompanied by Sopater son of Pyrrhus from Berea, Aristarchus and Secundus from Thessalonica, Gaius from Derbe, Timothy also, and Tychicus and Trophimus from the province of Asia. 5) These men went on ahead and waited for us at Troas. 6) But we sailed from Philippi after the Festival of Unleavened Bread, and five days later joined the others at Troas, where we stayed seven days. 7) On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight. 8) There were many lamps in the upstairs room where we were meeting. 9) Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead. 10) Paul went down, threw himself on the young man and put his arms around him. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “He’s alive!” 11) Then he went upstairs again and broke bread and ate. After talking until daylight, he left. 12) The people took the young man home alive and were greatly comforted. TAKEAWAYS 1. Let the word go on and on 2. Let the Church be awakened - Many lamps (v 8-9) - Resurrection is real (v 10-12)

Guest Speaker Andy Pitt | Prayer of Moses: Truly Truly

PSALM 90 (NIV) 1) Lord, you have been our dwelling place  throughout all generations. 2) Before the mountains were born  or you brought forth the whole world,  from everlasting to everlasting you are God. 3) You turn people back to dust,  saying, “Return to dust, you mortals.” 4) A thousand years in your sight  are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night. 5) Yet you sweep people away in the sleep of death— they are like the new grass of the morning: 6) In the morning it springs up new,  but by evening it is dry and withered. 7) We are consumed by your anger  and terrified by your indignation. 8) You have set our iniquities before you,  our secret sins in the light of your presence. 9) All our days pass away under your wrath; we finish our years with a moan. 10) Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures;  yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away. 11) If only we knew the power of your anger!  Your wrath is as great as the fear that is your due. 12) Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. 13) Relent, Lord! How long will it be?  Have compassion on your servants. 14) Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. 15) Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us,  for as many years as we have seen trouble. 16) May your deeds be shown to your servants,  your splendor to their children. 17) May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us;  establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands. TAKEAWAYS  1. God is Great (v 1-2) - Magnify Him  2. You are Frail (v 3-8) - Rest in Him  3. Life is Short (v 9-12) - Live for Him   4. Joy is Possible (v 13-15) - Depend on Him  5. There’s a Plan (v 16-17) - Work for Him

    Revival or Riot: Truly, Truly

ACTS 19:23-41 (NIV) 23) About that time there arose a great disturbance about the Way. 24) A silversmith named Demetrius, who made silver shrines of Artemis, brought in a lot of business for the craftsmen there. 25) He called them together, along with the workers in related trades, and said: “You know, my friends, that we receive a good income from this business. 26) And you see and hear how this fellow Paul has convinced and led astray large numbers of people here in Ephesus and in practically the whole province of Asia. He says that gods made by human hands are no gods at all. 27) There is danger not only that our trade will lose its good name, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be discredited; and the goddess herself, who is worshiped throughout the province of Asia and the world, will be robbed of her divine majesty.” 28) When they heard this, they were furious and began shouting: “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” 29) Soon the whole city was in an uproar. The people seized Gaius and Aristarchus, Paul’s traveling companions from Macedonia, and all of them rushed into the theater together. 30) Paul wanted to appear before the crowd, but the disciples would not let him. 31) Even some of the officials of the province, friends of Paul, sent him a message begging him not to venture into the theater. 32) The assembly was in confusion: Some were shouting one thing, some another. Most of the people did not even know why they were there. 33) The Jews in the crowd pushed Alexander to the front, and they shouted instructions to him. He motioned for silence in order to make a defense before the people. 34) But when they realized he was a Jew, they all shouted in unison for about two hours: “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” 35) The city clerk quieted the crowd and said: “Fellow Ephesians, doesn’t all the world know that the city of Ephesus is the guardian of the temple of the great Artemis and of her image, which fell from heaven? 36) Therefore, since these facts are undeniable, you ought to calm down and not do anything rash. 37) You have brought these men here, though they have neither robbed temples nor blasphemed our goddess. 38) If, then, Demetrius and his fellow craftsmen have a grievance against anybody, the courts are open and there are proconsuls. They can press charges. 39) If there is anything further you want to bring up, it must be settled in a legal assembly. 40) As it is, we are in danger of being charged with rioting because of what happened today. In that case we would not be able to account for this commotion, since there is no reason for it.” 41) After he had said this, he dismissed the assembly. TAKEAWAYS 1. The Confusion of the World 2. The Calm of the Believer I. Paul’s Pursuit is to Share Jesus II. Paul Showed Extreme Courage III. Paul Accepts Counsel IV. Deals with Disappointment V. Redirection

Sincere & Counterfeit Church: Truly, Truly

ACTS 19:1-13,15-16 (NIV)   1) While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples 2) and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”  They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” 3) So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?”  “John’s baptism,” they replied. 4) Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” 5) On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6) When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. 7) There were about twelve men in all. 8) Paul entered the synagogue and spoke boldly there for three months, arguing persuasively about the kingdom of God. 9) But some of them became obstinate; they refused to believe and publicly maligned the Way. So Paul left them. He took the disciples with him and had discussions daily in the lecture hall of Tyrannus. 10) This went on for two years, so that all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord. 11) God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, 12) so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them. 13) Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, “In the name of the Jesus whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.” 14)  Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. 15) One day the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?” 16) Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding. TAKEAWAYS I. Gospel proclamation, everything is centered on Jesus II. Patient teaching III. God does great things

    The Ministry Couple: Truly, Truly

ACTS 18:18-28 (NIV)   18) Paul stayed on in Corinth for some time. Then he left the brothers and sisters and sailed for Syria, accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila. Before he sailed, he had his hair cut off at Cenchreae because of a vow he had taken. 19) They arrived at Ephesus, where Paul left Priscilla and Aquila. He himself went into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews. 20) When they asked him to spend more time with them, he declined. 21) But as he left, he promised, “I will come back if it is God’s will.” Then he set sail from Ephesus. 22) When he landed at Caesarea, he went up to Jerusalem and greeted the church and then went down to Antioch. 23) After spending some time in Antioch, Paul set out from there and traveled from place to place throughout the region of Galatia and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples. 24) Meanwhile a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was a learned man, with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures. 25) He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great fervor and taught about Jesus accurately, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26) He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately.  27) When Apollos wanted to go to Achaia, the brothers and sisters encouraged him and wrote to the disciples there to welcome him. When he arrived, he was a great help to those who by grace had believed. 28) For he vigorously refuted his Jewish opponents in public debate, proving from the Scriptures that Jesus was the Messiah. TAKEAWAYS 1. Be part of the church and God’s mission movement 2. Support the “apostle” and his work 3. Delight in ministering “small” 4. Be Inseparable
