Evie and Emily Soape

At The Everyday Creative we believe that everyone is creative. Our creative acts often go unacknowledged and dismissed as daily problem-solving, but here they are celebrated. Episode 76 | Mental Health Paradoxes Part 2

We're human, which means we're walking contradictions — craving connection while protecting ourselves from it, wanting others to change while struggling to see our own patterns. In this episode, Emily and Evie dig into five more mental health paradoxes (picking up where episode 74 left off), exploring how these blind spots show up in daily life and how conscious creativity can help us work through them.   Episode Highlights: Paradox 1 — The Paradox of Projection: We think others are the problem until we face ourselves. Blaming others distracts from the one person who can actually resolve the issue — you. Paradox 2 — What you do to others, you do to yourself: How you treat others (judgment, criticism, abandonment) often mirrors how you relate to yourself internally. Paradox 3 — The Porcupine Dilemma: We need connection but also protect ourselves from it, leading to attachment ambivalence and the push-pull of intimacy vs. self-protection. Paradox 4 — The Self-Care Paradox: The more you give yourself, the more you have to give others. Self-neglect creates resentment and burnout; self-care builds real capacity to care for others. Paradox 5 — The way out is in: Healing requires turning inward through self-exploration rather than avoidance or distraction. Episode 74 | Mental Health Paradoxes

Ever feel like the advice you get about mental health contradicts itself? That’s kind of the point. This week, Evie and Emily dig into the paradoxes about mental health. It’s those moments where two opposing things are both true at the same time. Spoiler: embracing the contradiction might be exactly what healing looks like.   Episode Highlights: Why mental health is full of contradictions The law of polarity Control vs. surrender Why letting go is so hard More effort does not always equal better results Creativity as a healing tool   Helpful Links: Episode 70: Locus of Control   Quick Win: Pick one thing you’ve been overthinking. In this episode, Evie and Emily reframe the “midlife crisis” as a midlife awakening, explore hormonal and neurological shifts behind it, and introduce the concept of creative reconstruction: the transformational process of becoming someone capable of building a life you love.   Episode Highlights: Midlife crisis as midlife awakening Why women start questioning everything The brain’s need for change Why you don’t need to burn it all down The process of creative reconstruction   Quick Win: Ask yourself: What vision do I have for my future or future self that is not supported by my current life? Episode 70 | Locus of Control

Have you ever felt like life was happening to you rather than being created by you? Episode 69 | Nutrition & Stress

If you’re stressed, overwhelmed, or feeling like your life is just a little too loud right now, there’s a good chance your brain has landed on this thought: “If I could just get my diet together, everything would feel better.” And honestly? That makes sense. Food is tangible. It’s something you can control when everything else feels messy. In this episode, Emily and Evie explore how nutrition can genuinely support a stressed nervous system — and how it can just as easily become another source of pressure. Because yes, food can help. But it shouldn’t be asked to carry everything.   Episode Highlights: The difference between allostatic load, distress, and resilience Why stress often pushes us toward stricter food rules When dieting increases cognitive load instead of reducing it Common eating patterns that quietly worsen stress How to build nutritional resilience instead of food anxiety   Quick Win: Simplify one thing about your food.   For additional info, check out our show notes page: Episode 69: Nutrition & Stress   Ready for More: Get your free assessment: The Clarity Compass - find out what’s blocking your clarity and take steps to move past it!
