    "1560 Bible: Leviticus 20"

“YHWH sets some ground rules for purity: don’t sacrifice your children by burning them in fire as an offering to Moloch; don’t commit incest or bestiality; don’t commit adultery; distinguish between clean and unclean animals, and do not consult spiritualists or fortunetellers. Guardrails set for humanity.” To support our work and the show, click here: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=H66YAR8RY38YJ Outspoken with Dr Naomi Wolf is a reader-supported publication. "Leviticus 19: The Key Laws"

“In the 1560 Geneva Bible and the Hebrew original, Leviticus 19 is a key chapter that provides a crescendo for all of the guidelines and warnings that YHWH has provided the people to this point. It’s a dramatic climax, and it explains from God’s point of view the essential reason His children should embrace a monotheistic view of the world and stop worshiping their own egos—the ‘works of [their] hands!’ A dramatic climax to the action of Leviticus.” To support our work and the show, click here: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=H66YAR8RY38YJ Outspoken with Dr Naomi Wolf is a reader-supported publication. "1560 Geneva Bible: Leviticus 18"

“YHWH’s instructions to Moses and Aaron cover licit and illicit sexual behavior. In this chapter, the difficult sentence appears that has been interpreted to forbid male same-sex sexual intimacy. YHWH warns that sexual practices He forbids, including bestiality and incest, cause negative consequences for the communities that participate in them.” To support our work and the show, click here: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=H66YAR8RY38YJ Outspoken with Dr Naomi Wolf is a reader-supported publication. "1560 Geneva Bible Leviticus 17: Rules about Blood"

“YHWH here expands on His view of how His children should deal with blood. He describes the substance as sacred—the source of life—but also, if mishandled, as defiling. The origins of kashrut—dietary purity—derive from this chapter, among others. YHWH thus reminds His children that they are not animals or pagans, who eat anything killed in any manner, but that He wishes them to have a thoughtful and civilized relationship to the animals they kill and eat, and to their own bodies.” To support our work and the show, click here: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=H66YAR8RY38YJ Outspoken with Dr Naomi Wolf is a reader-supported publication. "1560 Geneva Bible Leviticus 16"

“The first Yom Kippur is spelled out by the Creator. In this chapter, YHWH expands on the idea that it is not only individuals who can become ‘impure’ via transgressions, but entire communities. The Creator explains how, once a year, the priest and the community can atone to YHWH via sacrifice and repentance, and even send a live goat into the wilderness as a way to place ‘iniquities’ onto the animal. We discuss how this ritual could show vestiges of other idolatrous religions’ practices, including the identification of the wilderness with demons.” Outspoken with Dr Naomi Wolf is a reader-supported publication. "1560 Geneva Bible Leviticus 15"

“YHWH continues instructing Moses and Aaron about how to handle infectious diseases, notably a disease now translated as leprosy. People who may be infectious to others are kept apart from the community til the Priest can assist them in reintegrating, via a sacrifice and ritual at the Tent of Meeting. ‘Pure’ and ‘impure’ continue to be an important theme for the Creator.” Outspoken with Dr Naomi Wolf is a reader-supported publication. "1560 Geneva Bible Leviticus 14"

"This chapter continues the detailed instructions given by God to Moshe on how to manage infectious skin diseases in order to prevent a plague from spreading among the people. Incredibly, God predicts the future here—He describes well-built houses in a land, Canaan, that the Children of Israel will possess, and even mentions cities. None of these exist in the present, nor did they exist in the past for the people, who have fled slavery. So YHWH is describing a future they cannot imagine from experience—one that, historically, will indeed come to pass. We also explore rabbinical explanations of leprosy as a sign of incomplete spiritual refinement—a metaphor that reminds us how important the boundaries are between pure and impure."
