Type 4 Rejection Reaction: When Old Rejection Shows Up Years Later

Why am I still reacting to something that happened six years ago? That was the question I brought to God—and His answer took me much further back than I expected. In this episode of The Redeemed Perspective, I’m talking about what I call a Type 4 Rejection Reaction: rejection that doesn’t fully show itself when the wound happens, but resurfaces later through fear, anxiety, jealousy, bitterness, insecurity, unforgiveness, or the constant need to feel chosen. For years, I thought a breakup was the source of my rejection wound. It wasn’t. It was a trigger for something that had been developing long before that relationship ever existed. And that revelation forced me to ask a harder question: What if the thing I’ve been asking God to take away is only a symptom of something deeper He’s been trying to heal? Sometimes we pray. We fast. We move on. We stop talking about it. We tell ourselves we’re healed. But did we actually get to the root? This episode is an honest conversation about delayed emotional reactions, childhood wounds, validation, heartbreak, putting expectations on people that only God can fulfill, and allowing the Holy Spirit to uncover the places in our souls we would rather leave buried. Because what you refuse to heal today can bleed into relationships, opportunities, and seasons God never intended it to touch. Maybe you’re not “still stuck” on what happened. Maybe what happened exposed a wound that was already there. And maybe God isn’t taking you backward to punish you—He’s taking you back to the root so you can finally move forward free. You are not abandoned. You are adopted. You are chosen. And rejection does not get the final word.
