    Hats Off

It’s been a busy week in hockey, and BG breaks it all down on this episode of CellyCentral. The headline is Cutter Gauthier, who’s doing something the NHL has never seen. He has back-to-back hat tricks and eight goals in his last three games, and he’s the first player in league history to score multiple power-play goals in three straight games. He’s also the first Duck ever with consecutive hat tricks. We get into whether this is a breakout season or just a ridiculous hot streak, and what it means for an Anaheim team that suddenly can’t miss on the power play. From there we go around the league. Montreal blew a late lead and lost to Winnipeg in overtime after getting outshot more than two to one. Connor McDavid’s point streak reached 16 games even as the Devils beat Edmonton in a shootout. Jason Robertson had a hat trick in a 6–5 slugfest in Washington, the Rangers finally ended their four-game losing streak, and Nashville handed the league-leading Hurricanes a 4–1 loss. We also look at the players and teams driving the headlines early this season. Then it’s time for college hockey. Wisconsin is the new No. 1 in the country after Ohio State knocked off Michigan, Augustana is the surprise of the early season, and Army is one of the hottest teams around. BG runs through the latest rankings and the big matchups to watch this weekend, including the Badgers’ first test at No. 1 against Minnesota. BG also takes a moment to talk about the severe flooding in South Florida. To everyone back home dealing with it, stay safe and look out for each other. This episode is presented by Gross Hockey. Trick or Trade

It’s been one of the wildest weekends of the season, and BG has all of it on this episode of CellyCentral. We start with the story everyone in hockey is talking about: Nikita Kucherov’s reported trade request. One of the most dominant players of his generation is reportedly looking for a way out of Tampa Bay, and the contract impasse between him and the organization has the Lightning at a real crossroads. BG digs into how things got here, what it could mean for a franchise built around its core, and which teams could make sense if a deal actually happens. From there we run through a packed weekend across the NHL and college hockey, with the results, standout performances, and storylines worth watching. The Rangers get their own breakdown after a 4–1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers stretched their losing streak to four games. New York won the faceoff battle and outshot Edmonton, but couldn’t get anything past Matt Tomkins, while Evan Bouchard and Connor McDavid did the damage. Is it time to panic on Broadway, or is this just a rough patch? Then we leave the rink for the gridiron. Mike Norvell is out at Florida State, and as an FSU guy, BG has thoughts on where the Seminoles go from here and what the next hire needs to bring to Tallahassee. And of course the Jets found yet another way to give one away late, collapsing against Las Vegas in a finish that Jets fans have unfortunately seen before. This episode is presented by Gross Hockey. Clause & Effect

CellyCentral is back, and BG has a loaded one for you this week. We start with everything you missed across the league on Monday and Tuesday night. The Kings stormed into Madison Square Garden and handed the Rangers their first home loss of the season, chasing James Reimer after one period in his Rangers debut. Jacob Fowler put on a goaltending clinic in St. Louis, turning aside all 46 shots for a shutout. The Panthers ran Winnipeg out of the building, the Islanders survived Nashville in a shootout, and the Canucks pulled off the wildest finish of the week with an overtime comeback against Anaheim. From there, we dig into the biggest storyline in hockey right now: Connor Hellebuyck’s debut in New Jersey. Just days after the blockbuster trade out of Winnipeg, Hellebuyck picked up the win in Dallas as the Devils snapped the Stars’ five-game winning streak and extended their own run to four straight. BG breaks down what the Devils’ dominant second period says about this team, whether Hellebuyck was tested at all, and if New Jersey is now the team to beat in the East. Then it’s time for GM for a Day. Dylan Larkin has expanded his trade list from three teams to ten, and the Red Wings are listening. BG lays out realistic mock trades with Minnesota, Utah, Carolina, Vegas, New Jersey, and Tampa Bay, digging into cap space, draft capital, and what Detroit actually wants in return. Some of these deals are closer to happening than you might think, and some would shake up an entire division. We also have to talk about Matthew Schaefer, who made history Tuesday night by becoming the first player in the tracking era to play all five minutes of overtime, logging over 32 minutes in a win over Nashville. At 19 years old, the reigning Calder winner is already doing things nobody in the league has done before. To close it out, BG brings the heat with Hot Take or Trash Take on tonight’s Flames vs. Oilers matchup and makes his Scorer Prop pick for the slate. Let us know in the comments whether the take is hot or trash. Use code CELLY10 with our partners. Hell Freezes Over

It’s a rough stretch to be a Jet in either league. Winnipeg reportedly loses its franchise goalie, and New York loses another close one. Sawyer, aka BG, recaps a packed week across the NHL, college hockey and the NFL. He starts with the biggest story in hockey, the reported Connor Hellebuyck trade to New Jersey. He covers what it means for a Devils team that’s been searching for a true No. 1 in net, what it leaves behind in a Winnipeg locker room already on a five-game skid, and whether the price was worth it for both sides. Then he runs through the weekend’s NHL games. Toronto put 7 on Edmonton, Ottawa scored seven on the Rangers, Utah beat the Lightning in overtime, and Montreal’s Jacob Fowler stood on his head in Winnipeg. He also picks out the standout performances from around the league. Next is college hockey, where BG breaks down the new USCHO rankings. Michigan holds No. 1 after taking down Western Michigan with 0.1 seconds left, Wisconsin jumps to No. 2, and Minnesota’s sweep drops North Dakota all the way to No. 8. Providence stays perfect at 5-0 for the first time since 2003. He also covers the weekend’s splits and sweeps, from Michigan State bouncing back at UNH to Colorado College and Augustana moving up the poll. In the NFL, the Jets lose a 28–25 heartbreaker to Miami. A missed field goal, Malik Willis’ 63-yard touchdown dagger, and a late two-point conversion that wasn’t enough have the Jets at 2-5, with four of their five losses coming by one score. As always, there are honest fan reactions throughout, plus a few hot takes for the week ahead. Fourth & Gone

Denver raised its 2026 national championship banner, and then Michigan walked into Magness Arena and swept the Pioneers in a Frozen Four rematch. The Wolverines are 6-0 and the new No. 1 team in the country. BG breaks down the new USCHO rankings: Michigan Tech’s climb, BU’s slide after a split at Vermont, Northeastern and Merrimack cracking the top 20, and Niagara sweeping Icebreaker champ Bowling Green. In the NHL, McDavid dropped five points in Utah to stretch his season-opening point streak, Kaprizov leads the league with 10 goals, and the Flyers finally got their first win after a franchise-worst 0-6-3 start. Oettinger has three shutouts in six games, and the Leafs have lost five of six with Tavares out week to week. Tonight it’s No. 1 pick Gavin McKenna vs. No. 2 pick Ivar Stenberg, and Macklin Celebrini is in the building too. On the football side, the Jets came up empty on two fourth downs and went 0-for-3 in the red zone in a 26-19 loss to the Patriots. FSU fell 43-35 in double overtime at No. 3 Miami in an instant classic that ended with an end-zone interception on the final play. The Darche Knight Rises

Two weeks into the 2026-27 NHL season, the league already looks very different from what anyone predicted. On this episode of CellyCentral, BG is joined by David to break down where things stand, from teams tearing it down to the studs to contenders looking for one more piece. We start with the state of the NHL’s rebuilds. Some teams are clearly on the right track, stacking young talent and building through the draft. Others are stuck in the middle, with no clear direction and fan bases running out of patience. We get into what separates a smart rebuild from a slow one, when a team should cash in its veterans, and why timing everything up is the hardest part of the job. From there, the conversation shifts to the trade market. Trade requests, contract clauses and cap crunches are shaping the league right now. We break down how good front offices approach the market, the difference between a calculated move and a panic move, and which teams have the assets to make a big swing this season. The centerpiece of the episode is the New York Islanders and one big question: should they go all in on Dylan Larkin? Larkin requested a trade out of Detroit this summer and lost the captaincy. He’s a five-time 30-goal scorer with a contract that runs through 2030-31 and a no-trade clause that gives him the final say. With Mat Barzal sidelined, the Islanders’ center depth has been tested early, and a Bo Horvat-Larkin one-two punch down the middle is hard to ignore. But what would it cost? We talk about which prospects the Islanders would have to give up, how the cap math works, whether Larkin would even agree to go to Long Island, and how a move like that fits around Matthew Schaefer, last season’s Calder Trophy winner. We also look at the prospects around the league worth watching. That includes young players already making an impact at the NHL level and the next wave coming through junior, college and the AHL. Some of these names could be the centerpiece of the next blockbuster trade, and some could be the reason a rebuild finally turns the corner. Whether you’re an Islanders fan dreaming about a big move, a Red Wings fan watching the Larkin saga, or just someone who loves a good trade debate, this one’s for you. Hot takes, real analysis, and plenty of celly talk. Let us know in the comments: would you make the Larkin trade if you were running the Islanders? 📧 Collabs, guest requests and hot takes: cellycentral92@gmail.com This episode is brought to you by Gross Hockeyand Buttery Roller Co., home of the Butterhood in Stuart, Florida.
