Sorry I'm Late: An ADHD Podcast

Amy Neal

I don't know about you, but I'm sick of the DSM-heavy, pathology talk about ADHD & Autism. It's time to reframe the narrative of what it means to be neurodivergent! In this show, I share my personal experiences, knowledge, expertise, & insights about ADHD & Autism, aka neurodivergence, as well as my unique approach to neurodivergent-affirming rhetoric through a spiritual, holistic perspective. It's time to adopt new beliefs, attitudes, & self-talk that are based in self-compassion & acceptance, that empower you instead of hold you back. You're NOT broken. You're diverse.

EP 16// Why I Make This Podcast

Why do I make this podcast, anyway? In this episode I share my personal background and credentials, and why this show will always be first and foremost, a passion project borne from pure heart and social advocacy. Being late-diagnosis ADHD and ASD, there are plenty of lessons and advice I wish I could give to my younger self(as pictured in the podcast cover when I first launched this project). Ultimately this show is for the little girl on the cover (young, undiagnosed Amy). I also share: my personal POV of neurodivergence (spiritual, holistic, self-compassionate, empowering)the story behind the name of the showthe story behind the podcast art & why I chose it And last but not least, I would be lying if I didn't admit that this podcast is a means for me to share my thoughts on neurodivergence exactly how I want to share them. So if you don't agree with the main message I share about in my show, then respectfully, peacefully, lovingly--goodbye. This show isn't the right match for you. This show is for you if you're ready to break up with the constant self-hatred and negative self-talk, and adopt a (radical!) new mindset reframing your own neurodivergence. EP 15// Minipod: ADHDer's Feel on Full-Throttle - Emotional Dysregulation

Most people have no idea just how intensely ADHDer's experience emotions. In my opinion, this is an aspect of neurodivergence that is one of the most difficult and painful aspects of living with ADHD. People with ADHD (or Autism, even) experience their emotions on a more heightened level than neurotypicals. It's a hallmark of ADHD. And it's actually called, "emotional dysregulation." In this MINIPOD SERIES episode, I share what it’s really like to experience emotions at full throttle, often feeling misunderstood or exhausted by the emotional rollercoaster. I break down emotional dysregulation in a simple way: why emotions can spike faster and hit harder. I talk about how that can show up in everyday life — from crying over something small to feeling numb during something serious. If you’ve ever felt like your emotions are too much, too fast, or too hard to explain, this episode is for you. Emotional dysregulation isn’t drama or weakness — it’s a real biological response and understanding it can make a huge difference. You are not broken. You are not alone. Your feelings are valid, and with the right support and self-understanding, these emotional storms can become a little easier to weather. ------ HELPFUL LINKS: Dr. Sasha Hamdani, MD - Psychiatrist & ADHD Expert, on Emotional Dysregulation (TT video) Dr. Sasha Hamdani's book about Emotional Dysregulation, Too Sensitive - MORE INFO HERE. ------ DISCLAIMER: While at the time of recording this episode, I, Amy Neal, am currently a graduate student to get my Clinical Mental Health Counseling license. EP 14// How Astrology Transformed My Take On AuDHD

Most ADHD, Autistic, and AuDHD people wake up every day believing they need to constantly fix themselves. They have been told their traits are a flaw, or something to be fixed or "healed." But what if neurodivergence can be explained in an alternative perspective--one that is more intentional and loving, and not at all disempowering? In this candid episode, I offer my, perhaps "radical" new perspective that just might change everything you think about yourself. I share my journey of discovering esoteric principles (astrology, Human Design, and numerology) and how they have challenged the medical/pathology model of ADHD that labeled me as a burden. I emphasize that these tools can be used in addition to therapy and proper pharmacology, and can help us love ourselves just as we are, without fixing or changing every single day from a place of self-loathing. If you’re tired of feeling broken or hate yourself because you have ADHD, etc., this conversation could be the catalyst you need to love yourself, by seeing your neurodivergence as a purposeful part of your cosmic blueprint. Love yourself first, and watch your life transform. DISCLAIMER: While at the time of recording this episode and writing these show notes, I am a current CMHC student in graduate school. EP 13// Advice Column: ADHD Medication

Let's get something straight--ADHD stimulant medication IS NOT m*thamphetamine, nor are they dangerous to take *if you have ADHD, and take them as prescribed.* In this episode of Sorry I'm Late, I share my advice and spit some facts about ADHD medications, specifically stimulants. I discuss the common phenomenon that many ADHD'ers experience after taking a stimulant medication for the first time in their life--rage and grief. It's not uncommon to experience grief after realizing your life has been so difficult and you didn't even know it; grief for the loss of the life you thought you would have, grief about the reality of your true mental and physical capacity. I discuss the stigma surrounding ADHD medication and why it's harmful. I also share my opinion about how stimulants can be used as another mask that society expects from ADHD'ers. Tune in to hear all my perspectives about ADHD medication. Disclaimer: And as always, please remember that at the time of publishing this episode, I’m only a mental health professional in training, and this podcast is designed to feel like I’m just your bestie giving you some solid advice. Please always seek additional support through doctors, professionals, and therapists if you’re struggling with your ADHD, ASD, mental illness, or suspect you have ADHD, etc.  Follow me on Instagram @amyfeels  Helpful Links: More information about the dangers of untreated ADHDMore information about stimulants and how it affects neurotypical vs. neurodivergent individualsA social media post illustrating that Adderall is not m*thamphetamine, by Kristen Carder (@i.have.adhd.podcast) Keywords: ADHD medication, stimulants, Adderall, stimulant medication, grief, stigma, ADHD stigma, ADHD myths, neurodivergent
