Persona Podcast

Bernardo Cruz

I am a 32 year old Mexican-Native American who loves deep conversation. Jeez this sounds like a dating profile.. I do like long walks so theres that. I started this podcast journey with the effort of quenching an unsatiable thirst for conversation and first-hand knowledge from people who have a plethora of life experiences. Very often our egos as humans denies us the ability to embrace humility and admit when we can learn from the person sitting across from us. Literally or virtually. Falling into this ego trap deprives us from plunging into endless streams of consciousness propelled by innate curiosity. I am unable to determine when my "Road to Damascus moment occurred but I am embracing this life path wholeheartedly. Mission Statement Join me in engaging conversation revolving around everything that encompasses one's "persona". I set out with this podcast to learn from my guest as they share experiences and life lessons that molded them into the person they are today. With a focus on the dualities that we as humans embrace everyday depending on our interactions and settings. I will share my own stories and the podcast would be a back-and-forth conversation with a mixture of a slight interview as well. Without taking myself too seriously and allowing levity when appropriate, I want to listen and learn what makes up the persona of each human from various walks of life. Molded by life experiences for the better or worst our persona is shaped and rendered complex and as unique as our DNA code. So let’s talk.

Episode 14 - "God the Artist: Revealing God's Creative Side Through Pottery" Author - Morgan McCarver

Episode 14 With the uber-Powerful, Morgan McCarver. Today on the show, we've got an inspiring story of resilience and artistic transformation. Morgan is a rising star in the ceramics world and a published Author, but her journey started in a completely different place. (Sound of ballet shoes scraping the floor) Morgan was a dedicated dancer, but a scoliosis surgery forced her to hang up her dancing shoes. Devastated, she needed a new creative outlet. (Sound of pottery wheel turning) Enter clay! Morgan took a summer pottery class, it was creative love at first spin. That spark ignited a passion that led her to get a degree in ceramics and even win the Outstanding Art Major Ceramics Award. Morgan's not just talented, she's driven. She runs her own business, Morgan McCarver Porcelain, with studios in both Asheville and Spartanburg. Her beautiful work has been featured in galleries and exhibitions all over the US, including three solo shows with titles that just beg you to see them – "FemininiTEA," "The Strength of a Wildflower," and even "Postures in Porcelain." And the accolades keep coming! Morgan recently received a North Carolina Arts Council Artist Support Grant, and her floral designs are so unique, they're copyrighted! If you'd like to see Morgan's stunning work for yourself, head over to her website, visit her Etsy shop or view her book as well and treat yourself (or someone special) to a piece. But beyond her talented work in ceramics, Morgan is an embodiment of commitment and resilience, in our conversation we talked finding creative avenues after life struggles and pitfalls. We discussed the political climate and navigating an ever evolving society while preserving the love for ones faith and savior. With that said, Morgan's life isn't all about the studio. Sundays are reserved for her faith. As an active member of Brookstone Church, she finds joy in her small group and volunteering with the youth. Her story is a testament to the power of finding new passions and staying true to your values. So tune in and I hope you enjoy this chat with Morgan. As with all my guests its an honor to be in audience to their viewpoints and ideas. Salu2! Episode 12 - "Getting boots on the ground' to discover culture." - w/ Olivia Janisch | @Livi_l0ve | (SuperBrand.LA)

After a short hiatus we are back with a season 2 installment with the mighty Olivia Janisch. Olivia is a creative soul driven by her limitless curiosity and excitement, which has guided her towards handling accounts for both established and emerging brands. She has collaborated with ESPN, Snap, the Tribeca Film Festival, the NHL, among others. Her interests include art, health, delicious cuisine, and the city of LA. Typically, you'll find her exploring different parts of town in the evenings in pursuit of extraordinary dining experiences, all while advocating for the power of compelling brand narratives. From our conversation and as the episode title would imply, Olivia emphasizes the "boots on the ground mentality". In a world where everything is downloaded into our phones, culture included, it can be lethargic to want to stay at a work desk and let culture come to you. Undoubtedly social media is a megaphone for cultural shifts, but in order to fully integrate into culture the first hand experience remains the best method. Olivia lives this methodology and this is one factor that sets her and SuperBrand.LA apart from other branding agencies. Their mantra speaks for itself "We help your business refine your message, create a winning narrative, and design an identity that people can’t help fall in love with." So please enjoy this old fashion human conversation in a virtual platform, and Thank you once more Olivia. Episode 11 -"What's the craic bueyes?" Tash Doherty | @misseducated_

Ep 11 with the Mighty Tash Doherty “What’s the craic bueyes?” I couldn’t think of a title more apropos than one fusing Irish and Mexican slang. In this episode I had the distinct pleasure and honor to converse with Tash Doherty. Now as context clues might’ve indicated a correlation of the lands of “Eire” and “Mēxihco”, here it is. Tash was born in London with an Irish background and relocated to Mexico and her spanish holds up especially when talking in local slang and “kickin the sh*t”. She is a writer and published author and continues to push the envelope when it comes to bringing taboo conversations to the forefront. Taboo in the sense that the patriarchal societal construct has deemed them so. These conversations are necessary and truly enlightening. My episode with here was merely a microcosm of what you can expect Tash to cover on her platform via social media, her newsletter and other sources. She was patient with my inquisitive nature of asking questions that should be basic knowledge when it comes to women reproductive RIGHTS and contraceptives. The fact these and other are not everyday basic knowledge is an adherence to the construct we see as women rights are pushed further into the backburner and every one and awhile dangled as political tokens come election season. But I’m rambling at this point, please enjoy the episode and thank you once more Tash continue being the no nonsense taking badass that you are! Topics Discussed ---- Multicultural upbringing Moving and living long-term in Mexico City Women Reproductive Rights Different types of Contraceptives London city breakdown Utilizing self growth from past traumas Authoring and publishing first book The Writing Process and more ! TIMESTAMPS Intro/Moving to Mexico City, Irish family background (00:00) Contraceptives, experiences with IUD, How to be a male ally (11:22) Tash's book "These Careless Little Things" , Reading Preview, writing process (27:44) London background (41:56) Dangerous experience in Oaxaca / Women Rights marches/ Femicides in Mexico (44:28) Outro/ How to read Tash's book "These Carless Little Things" (53:44) Links https://www.instagram.com/misseducated_/ https://linktr.ee/tashdoherty Purchase "These Perfectly Careless Things" https://www.tashdoherty.com/book
