An Aussie SLP in Ireland (Cork)

In August 2026, I had a chat with Jules Sexton. Jules is a speech pathologist and business coach, currently based in Queensland, Australia. You’ve probably come across Jules’ work online as she’s well-known for her business coaching in Australia (and her very fun social media posts). But you might not know that she spent the first ten years of her speech pathology career in Ireland! 🇮🇪 In this episode, Jules shares her experience moving from Australia to Ireland as a new graduate speech pathologist, and returning to Australia over a decade later as a mum and business owner. She also shares what a business coach does and why allied health private practice owners should have one.   You can find Jules on Instagram @next_chapter_businesscoaching. You can listen to her podcast WTF Leadership: Cockups and Comebacks on Spotify.  For listeners outside of Australia, there are a couple of local terms in this episode that you might not be familiar with. NDIS is the National Disability Insurance Scheme, a type of government funding for speech pathology (that is undergoing some major changes at the moment). And SPA is Speech Pathology Australia, the national association for the profession.  SLPs Overseas is an independently produced podcast. I record, edit and publish episodes while working full-time as an SLP (and travelling, of course!) This podcast is fueled by coffee, and I am so grateful to Grace, Sarah, Beth, Voon, Kim and The Marketed Clinician who bought me a coffee to show their support. How To Get Irish Citizenship And An EU Passport

Do you consider yourself ‘a little bit Irish?’ Well, you might be eligible for Irish citizenship and, with that, the ever-attractive EU passport 🇪🇺. Maybe you want to live, work or study in Ireland or in another EU country. Or maybe you want the privilege of using the EU citizens’ line at customs and immigration so you can smugly overtake the non-EU passport holders 🛂. In this episode, I answer the questions:  Am I Irish? If so, how do I make it official? How do I get an Irish passport? What does being Irish mean for my opportunities to live and work abroad? Can I be Irish and keep my home country citizenship? I also share my own experience of becoming an Irish citizen by descent 🇮🇪🍀. Bilingualism in SLP Practice

In July 2026, I had a chat with Jen, a bilingual English-Spanish speech-language pathologist from the United States. When you listen to the episode, you’ll understand why I think Jen is a “Super SLP”. Not only does she work bilingually across the lifespan, but she’s also pursuing doctoral research about bilingual SLP practice, focusing on monolingual SLPs working with culturally and linguistically diverse clients. In this episode, Jen shares about the discrepancy between the number of bilingual SLPs in the United States and the population of multilingual speakers in the country, considerations when providing assessment and intervention for culturally and linguistically diverse clients, and guidance for where to access further resources.  She also shares about her personal journey of becoming bilingual, overseas travels that helped develop her second language skills, and the importance of holding pride in her bicultural and bilingual identity, particularly in the United States in 2026.  You can find Jen on Instagram.  Some of the resources mentioned in this episode include: Topi Topi Bilingual Therapy Bilingual Speechie The Bilingual Extension Program at Columbia University A note on assessment: the PLS-5 was normed across the United States and Puerto Rico. The GFTA - 3 Spanish uses a pan-Hispanic approach, normed on a diverse group of Spanish speakers across the United States, Puerto Rico, Central America and the Caribbean.  SLPs Overseas is an independently produced podcast.
