    Stop Talking. Start Listening to Your Kids.

    How often do we listen to our children just waiting for our turn to talk? Dr. Kathy Koch explains that one of the most powerful things a parent can do is learn to listen to understand rather than simply listening for a chance to respond. When your child stops talking, resist the urge to interrogate, judge, give advice, or immediately share your own experience. Instead, give them space. Let the silence sit. Ask simple questions like: “Tell me more.” “Help me understand.” “What else?” The goal isn't to have the perfect answer. It's to get to know your child. Dr. Kathy emphasizes that parenting is about building an ongoing relationship where our children know that we are present, available, and genuinely interested in what's happening in their hearts and minds.
