The Skids - Episode 20 - Interview With Richard Jobson

This episode features the Skids. The Skids were formed in the summer of 1977 in Dunfermline in Scotland and would go on to make two albums and seven singles before the end of 1979. Their most successful year was 1979 where they spent over half the year in the singles charts including their biggest song, the top 10 hit Into The Valley. You may also know their song The Saints Are Coming which was covered by U2 and Green Day. Whilst they split in 1982 but reformed for a couple of years in 2008 and again in 2016 where they now still tour and have had more albums of new music, Burning Cities and Destination Dusseldorf, along with an Acoustic album reworking some of their songs. This episode covers the entire history of the band, their music and their stories. Richard Jobson is interviewed (starts about 25 mins in but don't miss the bio of the band because it covers all their great songs, and a few you may not know !). He is very open and entertaining and there's plenty of anecdotes about the early punk years and his interactions with everyone around that time. You may know a few of the hits but his story goes much deeper than that and he covers the full history of the band including the tragic death of Stuart Adamson (The Skids Guitarist), how US & green day came to cover The Saints Are Coming, what he thinks of their catalogue, whats happening now, the personnel changes and everything else in between. Its an episode that is a fitting end to our Season 1. Season 2 starts again in the new year where we are starting to cover bands for the 90's so the Uncharted 90's ! As usual any feedback or 5 star reviews and comments are always reviewed and replied to. Thanks for downloading and listening we really appreciate it. Martin & Noel Hosted on Acast. 2. The Passions - Episode 18 - Interview With David (Agar) Wardill

The Passions - Episode 18 - Interview With David (Agar) Wardill

The Passions were a British-Irish post-punk/new wave band which formed in 1978 and disbanded in 1983. The Passions' music had Barbara Gogan's voice and Clive Timperley's guitar work. Their major chart hit, "I'm in Love with a German Film Star", was released as the band's fourth single on 23 January 1981The lyrics were written by Gogan about Steve Connelly, a one-time roadie for The Clash and Sex Pistols who had minor roles in several German films. Todays Episode is an Interview with David Agar (Wardill) who played Bass in the band from 1980 - 1983 and tells us the real story behind the single, how the band got its name, how he was a part of Spandau Ballet (Not that one !) but his story about their name is a revelation. He also tells the story of the albums he made with them and how having a hit single impacted the band positively and negatively. Its ultimatley another story where the record company didnt have enough faith in the ban despite them selling 250,000 copies of their single in 3 days !. The Band worked with Producers Pete Wilson (The Jam), Nigel Gray (The Police) and Mick Glossop (The Skids). There are also stories of the 101'ers (Joe Strummers band before the Clash) and many others. I hope you enjoy the episode because you may not have heard of the band but I'm sure you will have heard their single but hopefully this episode shows they were much more than just a a "one hit wonder" as always happy to have your feedback. The Truth - Episode 15 - Interview With Mick Lister

The Truth were formed by Dennis Greaves, formerly of Nine Below Zero, and Mick Lister in early 1982.   Lead vocalist/guitarist Dennis Greaves previously with Nine Below Zero, When NBZ split in ’82, The Truth was formed. Dennis bought in ex-Stowaways Mick Lister to bring a '60s Soul sound built around the Hammond Organ, 2 guitars and a rhythm section of bass and drums. With Dennis and Mick sharing the guitar and vocals the rest of the band consisted of fellow ex-Nine Below Zero bassist Brian Bethel, Gary Wallis on drums and Chris Skornia on Hammond Organ. The Band were aligned to the Mod revival around that time and the Jam had split in 1982 so picked up on that fanbase too. Although they went through several line-up changes, Greaves and Lister remained members throughout the group's run. This episode covers the whole story right from Mick's audition through to Top Of The Pops, America (And Miami Vice) to a split and subsequent reunion and new material. It also covers Mick's songwriting and experience post the group which is not to be missed also This is definitely Mick's story and the interview starts at 25.53mins for those that want to go straight to it although the short band bio beforehand gives their history and music along the way.
