Welcome to the Uncharted Sounds Podcast. Formerly known as The Uncharted 80’s Podcast, we’ve expanded our horizons to bring you even more of the music you love. With a fresh name comes fresh flexibility while we’ll still dive deep into the hidden gems of the 80s, we’re now exploring uncharted sounds from the 70s, 90s, and beyond. the format stays the same as we deliver informative and hopefully captivating band biographies and exclusive interviews with the artists who shaped these decades of music that were often under the radar and may have been forgotten by some. What they have in common in our view, is that their stories or their music has been uncharted. They may have left a lasting impact on some of us and it's time to celebrate them.     Graham Parker - Episode 35 - Interview with Graham Parker

    This episode features an Interview with Graham Parker, its a career spanning interview that hopefully covers questions that he doesn't often get asked (check out the Clowns one !) Graham Parker began his recording career in 1976 with Howlin’ Wind, backed by The Rumour, quickly establishing himself as one of the leading figures of the UK pub-rock and early new-wave era. Over the next five years, Graham Parker and The Rumour released a run of albums including Heat Treatment, Stick to Me, The Up Escalator, and Squeezing Out Sparks, all of which charted in the UK, with several reaching the Top 40, while Squeezing Out Sparks became his highest-profile release in the United States and his strongest performer on the Billboard 200. After leaving The Rumour in 1981, Parker continued as a solo artist, releasing a steady stream of albums throughout the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s on both major and independent labels. He reunited with The Rumour for new albums beginning with Three Chords Good in 2012, followed by additional studio and live releases, while also maintaining an active solo career. Through the 2020s, Parker continued to release new material, tour, and collaborate, remaining an active recording and performing artist through 2025, with a catalog spanning nearly five decades.     This episode features the Band Crashland as a follow up to Episode 21 of the Podcast. Following the episode their old record company contacted us and were interested in releasing a new album of the re-mastered demos a short clip of which had been shared on the Episode. Alex Troup, and Nick Fowler of the band tell the story on this episode of the events that happened and the subsequent release coming at the end of this week. Its a story where newfound awareness of the band has generated new listeners and a new record. Most fans would not have expected it least the band themselves. Alex and Nick tell how it came about.     Cry Before Dawn are a four-piece rock band originally from Wexford in Ireland. They released several singles and two albums in the late 1980s and toured Ireland, the UK and US. Their biggest chart placing was 67 for the track Witness for the World, 2 albums that went double platinum and they were winners of the Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA) Best Newcomer in 1987 and best Irish Group in 1989. Original Lineup ·     Brendan Wade – vocals, acoustic guitar, uilleann pipes and whistle ·     Vince Doyle – bass guitar ·     Pat Hayes – drums, percussion, backing vocals ·     Tony Hall – electric and acoustic guitars Formed in 1982 but achieved attention in 1987 in the UK when they released their album Crimes of Conscience on the CBS label. This Episode features an Interview with the Bass guitarist Vinnie Doyle who tells their story and is a really engaging listen. Whilst you may not have heard of the band, I hope you enjoy their story in the spirit of a truly Uncharted Band. They are still touring and releasing new music.     The Stranglers - Interview With Baz Warne - Episode 32

    This episode features The Stranglers and an Interview with Baz Warne who has been in the band for 25 years. Baz has written a book (No Grass Grows On a Busy Street) about his 25 years in the band and todays episode features our chat with him where he covers everything you would want, as a fan or simply as a listener. Its open, candid and genuinely fascinating about his time in the Band, some stories you may know but there are also things that Baz shares that maybe not as well know. The Stranglers whilst they have been going since 1974 have had a few incarnations and we cover those in the episode. The Stranglers are often pulled into the "punk" genre but in reality, most fans wouldn't see them in that area. The band have achieved 23 UK top 40 singles, 20 UK top 40 albums and the original lineup (from 1974-1990) reached no 2 with one of their most well known songs Golden Brown and the most recent lineup achieved a no 3 album with Dark Matters. We start the episode as always with a short biography of the band which covers mainly their studio output and Baz' interview starts at 34 minutes in to the episode if you want to go straight to that.     Charlie Higson - Episode 31

    This episode features an Interview with Charlie Higson who for 6 years appeared in the band The Higsons. he hasnt spoken about that much and we explore his part in the band and what happened afterwards. For those that are new to the Higsons they were formed in 1980 at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, The Higsons first recording was on the “Norwich – A Fine City” compilation album and they did 5 Sessions for John Peel. They released records on the 2 tone label and were part of that Norwich scene which included a number of bands which Charlie talks about but we interviewed one of them all the way back in Episode 2, Screen 3 so thats worth a listen after this one ! Charlie talks about moving from Music to TV comdey as part of the fast Show on BBC television, working with Paul Whitehouse and Harry Enfield amongst many others and also talks about then moving on to writing novels. Its an all encompassing episode that covers his whole career and the conversation about the Higsons is one that has rarely been heard.     The Wannadies - Episode 30 - Interview with Pär Wiksten

    The Wannadies formed in 1988 in the Northern Swedish town of Skellefteå They had two Top 20 hits in the UK singles chart including a Gold Disc for You and Me Song and Might Be Stars and quickly became NME favourites. Despite forming in 1988 it was the re-release of You and Me Song in April 1996 that the band really made an impact in the UK It reached number 18 on the UK Singles Chart and having sold over 500,000 units earned a GOLD DISC. That year the track appeared on the official soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann's 1996 film Romeo + Juliet too. Their story has plenty of twists and turns and Pär tells it all for you.     The Primitives - Episode 29 - Interview with Paul Court

    The Primitives were formed in Coventry in 1984 and after some initial line-up changes settled on the classic line up which had 4 singles in the UK top 40 including the number 5 hit “Crash”. They got early valuable support when Morrisey became an advocate. They split in 1992 but reformed in 2009 and continue to work together. Todays episode has a short biography of the band with clips of their songs and has an interview with Paul Court who has been with the band since the beginning. He is the Guitarist, singer and songwriter for the band. The band have had a fascinating journey right through to now and still tour with one due in November of 2025. Whilst the band will be known for the hit single Crash, they are so much more than that and have had a number of other hit singles and have a back catalogue that is impressive and our episode tries to explore that and their stories.     The Members - Episode 28 - Interview with JC Carroll

    This episode features the Band The Members. They were formed in Surrey, England, in the summer of 1977, the Members played at the Roxy and all the other Punk clubs on the london circuit. The original band were:- Nicky Tesco (vocals),  Jean-Marie Carroll (guitar), Nigel Bennett (guitar),  Adrian Lillywhite (drums),  and Chris Payne (bass)  Their first Record Solitary confinement was releases on Stiff records in 1978 and is now a collectors item they then signed to Virgin Records Their first Virgin single, The Sound of the Suburbs, reached #12 in the Uk charts selling 250,000 copies in 3 months (it has since sold 1,000,000 copies). Whilst they are probably best known for this single they had so much more and continue to record and tour today. The Episode explores, with JC Carroll, their story from back in the days of Ounk right through to the tragic death of Nicky Tesco and what they are doing now and what they did in the break before the reunion. If you've only heard of Sound Of The Suburbs then this episode shares more of their music and shows what a wide variety of songs in their catalogue.
