    398. Compliance Is the Baseline Not the Finish Line: Featuring Korenne Wolken

What if compliance was not the finish line for special education services, but the starting point for providing every student with the instruction and support they deserve? In this episode, Joshua Stamper sits down with Korenne Wolken, Director of ANW Special Education Interlocal, to explore how leaders can create stronger, more collaborative, and student-centered special education programs. Korenne shares why Specially Designed Instruction must move beyond curriculum and paperwork to address each student’s unique needs, how advocacy can influence decisions beyond a local district, and why supporting staff as individuals is essential to building morale and improving outcomes for students. About Korenne Wolken Korenne Wolken serves as the Director of ANW Special Education and has been with the organization for 17 years. Before stepping into administration, she taught for 10 years before becoming the Dayschool Principal. She then served as a Coordinator for 2 years and is currently in her 5th year as Director. Korenne originally set a career goal of becoming a coordinator and shares that she never imagined one day serving as the Director of ANW Special Education. She considers it an incredible honor to lead an organization she has dedicated so much of her career to supporting. As a teacher, Korenne loved witnessing the moment students found success and gained confidence in themselves. Today, as Director, she finds that same joy in supporting staff. She strives to ensure ANW provides the training, resources, and support needed for staff to grow and be their very best for students. Korenne is passionate about ensuring every student has access to the supports they need to succeed, recognizing that success looks different for every individual. She is also deeply committed to helping students build the skills necessary to become successful and productive members of society. Korenne can cook some of the most complicated dishes you can imagine and make nearly anything from scratch — but she says she absolutely cannot make no-bake cookies successfully! 397. The Power of Presence in Leadership: Featuring Ronnel Blackmon

What changes when you stop waiting to feel motivated and start showing up with discipline, purpose, and presence? In this episode, Joshua Stamper is joined by speaker, coach, entrepreneur, endurance athlete, and leadership strategist Ronnel Blackman. Ronnel shares the P.R.E.S.E.N.C.E. framework, a practical approach to helping leaders show up more intentionally in their professional and personal lives. Ronnel explains why discipline is more reliable than motivation, especially when leaders are tired, stressed, distracted, or managing competing responsibilities. He also shares why effective communication begins with listening, emotional awareness, clarity, and a willingness to receive feedback that helps us grow. This conversation explores how leaders can build stronger systems, keep promises to themselves, create meaningful relationships, and lead in a way that makes others feel seen, heard, and energized. Ronnel also breaks down the eight elements of P.R.E.S.E.N.C.E., including physical discipline, resilience, effective communication, self-image, energy, environment, community, execution, and elevated purpose. About Ronnel Blackmon Ronnel Blackmon is a keynote speaker, professional emcee, entrepreneur, marathoner, husband, and father who helps leaders understand a powerful truth: before people experience your leadership, they experience your presence. Through his P.R.E.S.E.N.C.E. Framework, Ronnel helps educators and leaders strengthen three essential disciplines—physical discipline, resilience, and effective communication—so they can better lead themselves, connect with others, and create meaningful impact. His philosophy is simple: Discipline Over Motivation. Because motivation may get you started, but discipline determines who you become. Aspire Mailbag: Creating Teacher Goals That Build Growth and Ownership

How can school leaders give teachers ownership over their professional growth while still creating alignment around campus priorities? In this Aspire Mailbag episode, Joshua Stamper and Jeff Gargas tackle two timely questions from school leaders: How much autonomy should teachers have when setting professional-growth goals, and how can a school create communication systems that keep staff, students, and families informed? Joshua and Jeff discuss why teacher goals should be shaped through conversation rather than handed down as demands. They explore the balance between individual growth goals, team goals, and schoolwide initiatives, along with the value of helping teachers add meaningful skills to their leadership and instructional tool belts. They also break down what makes school communication work. From choosing platforms that families actually use to sharing positive stories, avoiding information overload, and meeting families in the community, this conversation offers practical ideas for building trust and making sure your message reaches the people who need it most. 395. Leading Without Apology With Dr. Carrie Mugridge and Dr. Jennifer Perez Bessolo

What would change if more women stopped waiting to feel completely ready and began stepping into the leadership roles they are already capable of leading? In this episode, Joshua Stamper is joined by Dr. Carrie Mugridge and Dr. Jennifer Perez Bessolo, coauthors of Leading Without Apology: Empowering Women in Educational Leadership, From Aspiration to Advancement. Together, they unpack the internal doubts and external barriers that can keep talented women from pursuing school and district leadership roles. Carrie and Jennifer explore why many women remain in the classroom longer, underestimate their qualifications, and hesitate to seek advancement without a direct invitation. 394. How to Flourish in a Tired and Stressed Out World: Featuring Phil Januszewski

What if feeling less tired and more inspired is not about waiting for life to slow down, but about making small, intentional choices in the middle of the chaos? In this episode, Joshua Stamper welcomes back former high school chemistry and physics teacher, keynote speaker, and author Phil Januszewski to discuss his new book, Too Damn Happy: Flourishing in a Tired and Uninspired World. After 20 years in the classroom, Phil left a career he loved to help educators and other adult givers build lives they do not need to escape from. Phil shares practical, research-informed strategies for moving beyond survival mode and toward greater energy, connection, resilience, and purpose. The conversation explores the difference between simply eliminating negativity and actively flourishing, why scheduling joy matters, how micro-moments of connection can change a school culture, and why leaders need to protect time for the things that truly refill their tank. About Phil Januszewski Phil Januszewski is a nationally recognized keynote speaker who empowers the “givers” of the world to flourish personally so they can create greater impact professionally; all while avoiding burnout, boredom, and cynicism. A 20-year educator turned full-time motivator; Phil blends science, storytelling, and humor to inspire audiences to recharge their energy and reignite their purpose. With a background in chemistry, a master’s in teaching leadership, and a certification in positive education, he lives out his mission of creating and spreading happiness through motivation, education, and entertainment; all with a little extra tattoo ink and a whole lot of heart.
