Host Stand - “A Prepared Place and a Welcome Experience” // Pastor Amelia Houdek

There’s something meaningful about having a reservation. It means someone expected you, planned ahead for you and made room specifically for you. In John 14, Jesus comforts His disciples with the promise: “I go to prepare a place for you.” God’s kingdom is not random or overcrowded and we are not afterthoughts. We are welcomed guests, personally invited into His family. Jesus reinforces this in the Parable of the Great Dinner in Luke 14, where the host continues sending invitations because there is still room at the table. God’s invitation is intentional, generous and personal. Yet before people experience the table, they often experience the welcome from a host or hostess. A smile, greeting or conversation can shape whether someone feels safe enough to stay and discover the place God has prepared for them. God works through ordinary people just like us to help others feel seen, valued and included. People are not interruptions to ministry, they are expected guests.  In fact, throughout scripture, Jesus welcomed people others ignored and made room for those who felt forgotten. In the same way the church is called to be a place where people are expected, not simply tolerated. Hospitality is more than friendliness, it’s spiritual work. Simple acts of kindness, attentiveness and welcome can open hearts to the love of Jesus. God’s message is clear: You are invited. There is a place prepared for you. Every greeting, conversation and invitation into community therefore reflects the heart of a God who prepares places for people to belong. As followers of Jesus we are called to help prepare places for others, moving them from simply attending to truly belonging in God’s family.
