Class Chats - Eddie McCormack - 2025 Senior Irish Amateur Open and Matchplay Champion

Send us Fan Mail Welcome back to another Class Chat. In this episode Will chats with Cavan native Eddie McCormack. Where does one start with this man. He is in his second act as an elite Amateur. In his first act he had the great honour of getting beaten by Rory McIlroy, twice. Once in the final of the Close in 2005 and again in the West of Ireland. Add to that other close calls including losing to Shane Lowry in the semi final of the West in 2008, losing in the final of the West to Rory Leonard n 2010 Eddie has played with the best of them. Throw in 3 Senior Cup All Ireland medals and a Barton Shield medal with Galway Golf Club, 8 mid amateur titles including the Irish Mid Amateur in his home club and a Connacht stroke play title in 2018 and that is probably enough for any one person. Not this man, onward to the second act and Eddie is now on the senior tour where he has had his biggest win in the European Individual Gold medal in 2023 which was played in Douglas. This got him into the Senior Open in the same year where he got to play with his golfing hero Jose Maria Olazabal. Some say don't ever meet your hero. Not in the this case. In 2025 Eddie that created history by being the first person the win the Senior Amateur Open and Matchplay which is just an amazing achievement. He then went and won a gold medal in Austria at the Senior Team Championship playing alongside the likes of Joe Lyons, Andrew Norris, Jody Fanagan, Karl Bornemann, Philip Purdy and of course Eddie. What is left for him to do? Watch this space. What a legend and a chat I wont forget soon.    Follow us on Instagram @atocpod and follow our YouTube channel @PARfectlyclassy

Class Chats - Paul McBride - Irish Professional & Walker Cup 2017 Player

Send us Fan Mail Hello and welcome back to another Class Chat. In this episode Will catches up with Irish Professional Golfer Paul McBride. From Malahide, Paul grew up playing many sports and had success in schools not only in golf but also in hurling where he won Dublin titles. Deciding to go down the route of golf, Paul played his junior golf in the Island where he learned his links skills. Onward to Wake Forest University in the US, Paul played and roomed with familiar names like Cam Young and Will Zalatoris. He had great success with the Wake Forest team winning a number of times. In 2016 and 2017 Paul played a number of the main European Amateur events trying to maximise his World Golf points in the hope and later success of getting on the Walker Cup team to play in 2017. in 2016 he unfortunately got beaten in the British Amateur semi final by a certain Robert McIntyre. On the Walker Cup, GB&I lost that particular year but Paul managed to bag himself a foursomes point beating his college team mate Zalatoris. Onward to the Pro life and Paul has had some nice top 10s in the years to date including a promising start to 2026 with a podium finish and a top 10 already in the bag. Ill be keeping my fingers crossed that he sees further success and gets himself on the Hotel Planner tour for next season. This was a very enjoyable chat with a super guy.
