Who are the Houthis

The Houthis, also known as Ansar Allah ("Supporters of God"), are a powerful armed group based in Yemen. Driven by a blend of Zaidi Shia religious beliefs and political grievances, they rose to prominence in 2014 after capturing the capital, Sanaa, and overthrowing the government. This sparked a devastating civil war with a Saudi-led military coalition backing the internationally-recognized government.
