Mary-Claire and Katherine discuss the Navigating the New Frontier: Generative AI and Academic Integrity conference (14 & 15 Oct 2024). This was an internationally esteemed hybrid event hosted in partnership by UL, Mary Immaculate College (MIC) and Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), and in association with NAIN and the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.

    Curious and Critical GCE is a podcast series all about global citizenship education which was developed to accompany the book Global Citizenship Education: Curious Teachers, Critical Classrooms. In this episode I talk with recent MIC BEd graduates Orlaith O’Brien and Róisín Kelly who are now working as primary school teachers. Róisín and Orlaith both completed a specialism in global citizenship education during their degrees and share their experiences of learning about and teaching GCE themselves. Ben is an Assistant Professor in Geography Education and is co-director of the DCU Centre for Human Rights and Citizenship Education. Ben discusses the interconnection between global issues, human rights, and values. During the discussion, Ben focuses on how human rights connects with education and offers ideas around opportunities and challenges within our current system.

Niamh is an Assistant Professor in Ethical and Intercultural Education in DCU Institute of Education and Ryma, a first-generation migrant, is a primary school teacher, facilitator and activist based in Dublin. Niamh and Ryma discuss what antiracism and interculturalism mean and provide lots of hopeful, practical tips and ideas for how to create inclusive classrooms.

The Ubuntu Network, funded by Irish Aid, Department of Foreign Affairs is a national centre of excellence for global citizenship education in post-primary initial teacher education. Joanne talks to me about the idea of reflective practice and challenges many common ideas of reflection as teachers and within GCE.

In this episode I talk to Vicky and Ade about structural inequality and financial justice. Vicky works with Financial Justice Ireland as education and outreach worker, delivering workshops on justice and solidarity approaches to global issues to groups around Ireland. Ade delivers workshops for NGOs such as Galway One World Centre and Comhlámh on social justice and inequality. Vicky and Ade share their understanding of structural inequality and give an insight into why we should be thinking and talking about and taking action on financial justice.

Global Village is a Global Citizenship Education programme for primary schools in Ireland. It aims to support primary school pupils to become active global citizens committed to building a fairer and more sustainable world.
