33: Men & Menopause - What Every Bloke Should Know

Welcome back to Tackle Talk Men’s Health, the show where we have honest conversations about the stuff that matters for men’s wellbeing, relationships, and life. Our latest episode might sound a little different—because it’s not directly about men’s health. It’s about understanding the women in our lives. Whether that’s your partner, your mum, your sister, a friend, or a work colleague—every man benefits from knowing what women go through in midlife. And here’s the thing: menopause and perimenopause aren’t just ‘women’s issues.’ They affect relationships, families, and workplaces too. We’re joined by Dr Lucy Caratti, an Integrative Medical Doctor here in Perth with over 15 years of experience in women’s health, hormonal balance, fertility, and integrative health care. She’s passionate about helping women navigate life changes like menopause—and she’s here to help us blokes understand what’s really going on, how we can be supportive, and yes… to clear up a few myths we’ve probably been carrying around for years. We’ll talk about what actually happens during perimenopause and menopause, why it can sometimes put pressure on relationships, and even whether these changes could be part of the reason we see more divorces in midlife. We’ll also get into the role of hormones you might not expect—like testosterone in women—and how lifestyle and environment play a massive part in health at this stage of life. By the end of this episode, you’ll not only understand menopause better—you’ll have practical ways to show empathy, support, and maybe even strengthen your relationships in the process.

27: From Footy to Pharmacy: Luke McPharlin on Pressure, Purpose & Performance

Our guest is someone who knows firsthand what it means to live under the pressures of elite sport. Luke McPharlin spent 16 years at the top of Australian Rules Football, playing for the Fremantle Dockers, marking some of the best forwards in the game. But what happens when the final siren sounds on a professional career? And how do you navigate the expectations, challenges, and temptations that come with being in the spotlight from the age of 16? In this episode, Luke opens up about his journey—how he managed the physical and mental demands of elite sport, the role of sports psychology, nutrition, and recovery in staying at the top of his game, and the team dynamic that shaped his career. We also explore a deeper side of his story—how his faith provided a moral compass to guide his life both on and off the field and how he transitioned from football to an equally high-pressure environment: working as a pharmacist in intensive care. We’ll also discuss the similarities between the team approach in professional sports and healthcare, and how young athletes can prepare for life beyond sport. Plus, we'll get his take on handling the temptations that come with being a sports star. It’s a fascinating conversation with a man who’s lived two high-performance careers and learned valuable lessons along the way. So, whether you're an aspiring athlete, a sports fan, or just someone looking for inspiration on handling pressure and transition, this episode is for you. Stay tuned—let’s get into it! 🔥🏉💊
