Recap of Previous Games: Cubs just lost the series against the Reds, but won the final game 13-4. How did they score 13 runs? Happ homered, while PCA doubled, and Paredes and Seoya both doubled twice. Paredes had his first hit as a Cub. They will play Cardinals at Wrigley this weekend. For injuries: Merryweather has returned from 60 day IL (he's been on it all year). Alzolay and Thomspon rehab at Iowa. Wicks and Brown are throwing bullpens in AZ and still each 2+ weeks away. Analysis of team performance, strengths, weaknesses, and roster changes, including Alzolay, Kilian, Brown, Wicks IL stints. They already acquired Nate Pearson (RH RP fire thrower) from Blue Jays for Yohendrick Pinango and Josh Rivera. They also traded Christopher Morel, Hunter Bigge, and Ty Johnson for Isaac Paredes! Paredes has team control through 2026. He has been above league average for 3 straight years, while Morel plays poor defense and has only been 5% above average for over 1,000 ABs in 3 years with the Cubs. Cub fans will surely miss flame thrower Hunter Bigge, who many thought could pitch in the back end of the bullpen. They traded Mark Leiter Jr to the Yankees for RHP Jack Neely (RP) and IF utility Ben Cowles, both in the 20s of Yankees top 30 prospects. Cowles will miss the year but will play at Iowa next year. Neely, a slider and fastball heavy-usage guy has been activated for the AAA I-Cubs.
