    In this episode Listen to a conversation between your host Vivienne Aerts and Dutch composer and guitarist Corrie van Binsbergen - as we talk about her various projects, being on tour with her projects leading to her new focus: composing for orchestra and following her passion for storytelling.   About Corrie van Binsbergen Guitarist, composer and band leader Corrie van Binsbergen finished her classical guitar studies in 1983. She has been active in a very wide musical range and played with numerous different bands and groups, in pop, jazz and improvised music, music for theatre and dance productions, recording sessions, TV-shows and even the circus. This very broad musical background can be heard in her music. She has developed her own characteristic style both in playing and composing. In 1996 she founded the ‘Stichting Brokken’, with which she realizes a new, surprising and successful production every one or two years, where she brings together different musical styles and (cross) art forms for a far broader audience than jazz concerts can reach. Aubrey has played for notable artists from a diverse array of genres, listing the Grammy winning pianist and composer Billy Childs, double-platinum artist Bipolar Sunshine, and singer/producer SASAMI. Aubrey’s recent performances include selling out two nights at Los Angeles’ legendary Baked Potato with Billy Childs in June 2024, opening for Yeah Yeah Yeahs at the Huntington Bank Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois, and for Soccer Mommy at Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco, California both in the summer of 2023. After earning her Bachelor's degree in Music Education at Fontys Conservatory and a Master’s in Musical Leadership at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, she discovered her passion for songwriting and created her alter ego, Joanne Bird. Under this name, she crafts indie and Americana folk music with a touch of jazz, drawing much of her inspiration from her travels to the United States, which is vividly reflected in her work. About Tomoko Omura Tomoko Omura is a composer, violinist and educator. Named #1 Rising Star Violinist by Downbeat Magazine’s Critics Poll in 2021, she has released six albums as a leader.“Branches Vol. 2” (2021) was named Bandcamp’s “Best Jazz of 2021”. She has been featured on major publications, including Grammy.com, WBGO Jazz United and The Pulse, Strings magazine, Jazz Sessions, AllAboutJazz. Originally from Shizuoka, Japan, she started violin under her mother's instruction. Almost quitting the violin in her teens, she discovered jazz when her brother was listening to "Kind Of Blue" by Miles Davis and fell in love with it. She moved to the U.S. to study at Berklee College of Music and relocated to New York after to pursue her dream of jazz violin. She became a mother in 2020 and is living in Brooklyn with her son, her partner and a pianist, Glenn Zaleski and her cat. Alea’s performance encompasses an entire generation of ethno-futuristic and folkloric music accentuated by buttery vocals, deep-rooted grooves and uplifting guitar. Her studies include a bachelor’s in Organizational Communications and a Diploma from Berklee College of Music in Jazz Composition and Performance. Alea’s in-person performances are powerful encounters of the spirit, passionate travelogues that link downtown New York to a tropical Colombian cantina. They are celebrations of Latin America and new definitions of what “Latin Alternative” can be. She’s released two albums as as soloist; Her latest album, 2021’s Alborotá, was shortlisted as among the Best Latin Music of the year by both Rolling Stone and NPR. Cobby’s firm grasp of harmony and playful melody writing has inspired a fresh new look on music in the styles of jazz, alternative/pop, and R&B. Cobby has performed her music all over the ast and West Coast, and has been gaining recognition as an emerging artist. She is a 2018 graduate of Berklee College of Music and a 2013 graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy and a 2023 San Diego Music Award Nominee for Best Jazz Album. Cobby is currently based in San Diego, CA and is working on her newest album, Florida Sunshine, which will be a 12 song album that returns her back to singer/songwriter roots.     In this episode: Listen to a conversation between your host Vivienne Aerts and Israeli Born Bass player and composer Adi Meyerson as we talk about her creative projects, her ‘chordless trio’ and living in New York.   About Adi Meyerson Adi Meyerson is a NY-based Bassist and composer. She was born in San Francisco, CA and at the age of two, she relocated with her family to Jerusalem, Israel, where she grew up and remained until moving to NY in 2012. Adi Studied at "The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music” and later on at “Manhattan School of Music” for her Masters. She studied with Master Musicians such as Ron Carter, Reggie Workman, Bob Cranshaw, Miguel Zenon, Jim Mcneely, Dave Leibman and worked with many greats such as Joel Frahm, Steve Nelson, Charli Persip, Ravi Coltrane and many others around the NYC area in highly renown venues such as Mezzrow, Smalls jazz, The Jazz Standard, Smoke, Birdland and others.She is A current member of the Bria Sconberg Band, Reginald Chapman's "Pressure Fit" and "Svetlana & the NYC collective", and actively tours and performs with many others around the US and the World. As a band leader and Composer, Meyerson has successfully made an impact on the NYC scene and earned her title as an up-and-coming young talent. In September 2017, She recorded her debut album "Where We Stand" which contains 9 original compositions all by Meyerson. The Album was very well received and Meyerson's music was referred to as "Intuitive and perspicacious, that displays a musical maturity that belies her newcomer status." Downbeat Magazine. The band has headlined the "Make some Noise" music festival in May 2016, Center City Jazz Festival in Philadelphia in 2019 as well as the international Guatemala Jazz Festival in 2019. Meyerson Has performed all over the US, Latin America and Canada with her band. Simona is a fixture in the New York live scene with her band when she’s not touring the world, including Australia, New Zealand and Europe. She deftly implements Lithuanian zither – kanklės and folk melodies into foundations of jazz, pop and electronic music. Always on the road, always charming and smiling, Simona is a true artistic soul that effervescently represents diversity and passion for arts. Smirnova’s genre-bending style has a unique theatrical flavor and uncanny vocal improvisation techniques.
