Who Will You Speak For? | Lessons from Balaam and God's Unchanging Word

Who are you really speaking for—yourself or the Lord? In Episode 122 of the Legacy Bible Podcast, we continue through a powerful message from Rev. Chuck Rains examining the account of Balaam in Numbers 22. While Balaam is remembered for the talking donkey, this message reveals a much deeper spiritual lesson: God's servants must faithfully proclaim God's truth rather than pursuing personal ambition, worldly approval, or selfish desires. Beginning with Israel's journey through the wilderness and ending with Balaam's confrontation by the Angel of the Lord, this sermon challenges every believer to surrender self-will, trust God's revealed Word, and become faithful witnesses for Jesus Christ. God's message has never changed—He loves sinners, sent His Son to save them, and calls His people to speak His truth without compromise.   Show Notes Episode Summary Throughout Scripture, God calls His people to be His representatives in the world. But whose message are we actually proclaiming? Drawing from Numbers 22, Rev. Chuck Rains contrasts God's clear revelation with man's tendency to pursue self-interest. Israel's wilderness journey serves as a backdrop for one of the Bible's most sobering examples of compromised obedience: Balaam. Although Balaam knew God's will, he repeatedly entertained opportunities that appealed to his own desires. His story reminds believers that partial obedience is still disobedience and that God's servants must faithfully declare His truth regardless of personal gain or worldly pressure. This timeless message calls Christians to examine their own hearts and ask one important question: Who are you speaking for?   In This Episode Why God's Word is not merely true—but Truth itself The difference between speaking God's message and promoting ourselves Israel's wilderness journey as a picture of the Christian life Lessons from Israel's repeated unbelief and rebellion The bronze serpent as a picture of Christ's sacrifice Balaam's temptation to compromise God's revealed will The danger of pursuing God's permissive will instead of His perfect will Why obedience always begins with surrendering self The warning against serving God for personal gain Becoming faithful witnesses who speak only what God has spoken   Key Scripture References Numbers 21 Numbers 22 Numbers 13–14 Romans 3:4 1 Corinthians 11 1 John 1:7 2 Timothy 2:20–21 1 Peter 5 John 3:14–16   Key Themes God's Truth Faithful Witness Obedience Self-denial Balaam Israel in the Wilderness Speaking for God Spiritual Discernment Holiness God's Will Christian Service The Gospel   Memorable Takeaways "God's Word is not simply true—it is Truth." "We are not called to proclaim ourselves, but Christ." "Knowing God's will is not enough; we must obey it." "Never make the Lord your adversary by insisting on your own way." "The world needs God's message—not our opinions."   About the Legacy Bible Podcast The Legacy Bible Podcast preserves the timeless preaching ministry of Rev. Recreated by God: The Miracle of the New Birth

Can people really change? Is Christianity simply about becoming a better person, or does God offer something far greater? In Episode 121 of the Legacy Bible Podcast, Rev. Chuck Rains explores one of the most foundational truths of the Christian faith: the new birth. Continuing his emphasis on the trustworthiness of God's Word, he explains that salvation is not self-improvement, religious reform, or moral education—it is a supernatural act of God that recreates a person from the inside out. Drawing from John 3, 2 Corinthians 5, Ephesians 5, and many other passages, this message reveals God's desire to transform sinners into His own children through faith in Jesus Christ. As believers, we are also reminded that we have been entrusted with the life-changing message of the gospel and are called to faithfully share it with the world. Whether you've walked with Christ for many years or are exploring the Christian faith, this timeless sermon points to the only true hope for humanity: God's recreating work through Jesus Christ.   Show Notes Episode Summary Every person longs for lasting change, but human effort can never accomplish what only God can do. In this powerful message, Rev. Chuck Rains explains that the gospel is centered on God's miraculous work of recreation—making sinners into entirely new creations through faith in Christ. Jesus told Nicodemus that no one can enter the Kingdom of God unless they are born again. This new birth is not symbolic or merely emotional; it is a creative act performed by the Holy Spirit. Through repentance and faith, God forgives sin, gives eternal life, and creates a new spiritual nature within every believer. Because God's Word is trustworthy, Christians can confidently proclaim this message to a world desperately searching for hope.   Key Topics Covered Why God's Word can be trusted completely What it means to truly hear God's voice Repentance and saving faith explained Why salvation is far more than religious reform Jesus' teaching on being born again Becoming a new creation in Christ The believer's new identity as a child of God Eternal life through Christ alone The Holy Spirit's work in transforming believers Our responsibility to share the gospel with others   Scripture References John 3:1–8 John 1:12 John 5:24 2 Corinthians 5:17 Romans 8 Ephesians 1 Ephesians 5:8 Galatians 3:26 1 Thessalonians 5:5 1 Corinthians 15 1 John 1:5 Romans 3:10–12   Memorable Truths from this Message Salvation is God's creative work—not man's self-improvement. Repentance is turning from sin and placing complete trust in Jesus Christ. Every believer becomes an entirely new creation through the Holy Spirit. God's purpose is to restore us to fellowship with Himself. Christians are ambassadors entrusted with proclaiming the gospel. The greatest need of every person is not education, religion, or reform—but recreation through Christ.   Why This Message Matters Today Modern culture often teaches that people simply need better habits, more education, or greater self-esteem. Scripture teaches something far deeper: humanity needs spiritual rebirth. This message reminds believers that Christianity is not about polishing the old life but receiving an entirely new life from God. That same transforming gospel remains the only hope for every generation.   About the Legacy Bible Podcast The Legacy Bible Podcast preserves and shares the biblical teaching ministry of Rev. The Heart of God and the Word of Truth: Lessons from the Healing at Bethesda

In Episode 120 of the Legacy Bible Podcast, Rev. Chuck Rains explores the powerful account of the healing at the Pool of Bethesda in John 5. On Pentecost Sunday, he contrasts the heart of man with the heart of God through the story of a man who suffered for thirty-eight years before encountering Jesus Christ. This message reveals Christ’s compassion for the lonely, broken, and forgotten. More importantly, it confronts every listener with a timeless question: Will we obey the Word of God, or will we follow the traditions and opinions of men? Through this remarkable healing, we discover the authority of Jesus as the Son of God, the necessity of recognizing our need, and the blessing that comes from trusting and obeying God's Word. The message challenges believers to embrace Scripture as God's truth and to resist the temptation to reshape it according to human preference. Join us as we examine the healing at Bethesda and learn why obedience to Christ remains the pathway to spiritual freedom and blessing.   Show Notes In This Episode The significance of Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit The account of the disabled man at the Pool of Bethesda The loneliness and hopelessness of thirty-eight years of suffering Christ's compassion toward the forgotten and rejected The necessity of admitting our need before God Receiving God's provision through faith and obedience The conflict between God's Word and human tradition The religious leaders' misunderstanding of the Sabbath Jesus' declaration of His divine authority Why obedience to God's Word matters for every believer Choosing God's truth over human approval   Key Scripture References John 5:1-18 John 5:19 John 7:23 Romans 1:18-32 Psalm 119:11   Key Themes The Compassion of Christ Jesus seeks out those who are hurting, isolated, and unable to help themselves. He knows our deepest needs and lovingly calls us to trust Him. Recognizing Our Need Before healing can come, we must acknowledge our condition and our need for God's intervention. The Gift of Grace The healing at Bethesda demonstrates God's willingness to provide what we cannot obtain for ourselves. God's Word Above Human Tradition The religious leaders elevated their traditions above God's intent. Jesus calls us to submit to Scripture rather than human interpretation. The Authority of Jesus Christ Christ's words carry divine authority because He is the Son of God and equal with the Father. Obedience as an Expression of Faith True faith is demonstrated by hearing God's Word and responding in obedience, regardless of opposition or personal cost.   Memorable Takeaway "The question is not whether we will listen to a voice, but whose voice we will obey—the Word of God or the word of man."   About Legacy Bible Podcast The Legacy Bible Podcast preserves and shares timeless biblical teaching from Rev. A Mother by God's Design

What is a mother according to God's design? In this message, we examine Scripture's picture of womanhood, marriage, motherhood, and the fear of the Lord as the foundation for a life that glorifies Christ. Drawing from Genesis and Proverbs 31, this episode explores God's purpose in creating women, the role of a godly wife and mother, and the lasting influence of faithfulness in the home. The world often defines identity, value, and success by changing standards, but God's Word gives a deeper and eternal perspective. Whether you are a mother, father, husband, wife, or child, this message offers timeless biblical truth and encouragement about living according to God's design and walking in obedience to Him.   Podcast Show Notes In Episode 119 of The Legacy Bible Podcast, we revisit a message focused on the beauty and purpose of motherhood through the lens of Scripture. Beginning in Genesis, we see God's intentional creation of woman and His design for marriage and family. The message then moves to Proverbs 31, revealing that true beauty and fulfillment are not found in popularity, outward appearance, or human approval, but in a life that fears the Lord. This teaching reminds us that a mother's influence reaches far beyond a single moment or season. Faithfulness, prayer, sacrifice, and love become living testimonies that shape generations. Even when life does not unfold perfectly and loved ones wander from the Lord, God's call remains: continue praying, continue trusting, and continue walking faithfully. Key Topics Covered: • God's design for women and motherhood • The biblical foundation of marriage • A mother's role in nurturing and guiding children • The meaning of true beauty according to Scripture • The fear of the Lord as the foundation of a godly life • Faithfulness in prayer and family relationships • Hope for parents and loved ones who have gone astray • Living for Christ in the home Scripture References: • Genesis 2:21–24 • Proverbs 31:23–31 • Romans 1:24–27 • 1 Peter 3:3–4 • Proverbs 22:6 • John 3:17 Memorable Theme: "Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised." — Proverbs 31:30 Listen and Reflect: How does Scripture shape our understanding of family and identity? What kind of legacy does faithfulness leave behind? This episode calls us back to God's design and points us toward Christ as the One who enables us to live it. Worship Through Giving: A Heart Knit Together in Christ

What does true biblical giving really look like? Is it simply a financial obligation, or is it an act of worship flowing from a heart transformed by Christ? In Episode 118 of The Legacy Bible Podcast, we revisit a powerful 1988 message centered on the lives of faithful believers whose examples revealed the heart of Christian fellowship and sacrificial love. Through the testimonies of Lee Kervis and missionary Mary McGraw, this message explores what it means to be a body of believers "knit together" in Christ. This study moves beyond percentages and offerings and points toward a deeper truth: God is not after our possessions first—He desires our hearts. Giving becomes meaningful when it grows out of love, surrender, worship, and commitment to the work God is doing through His people. Join us as we examine biblical stewardship, sacrificial love, caring for one another within the body of Christ, and the joy that comes from wholehearted worship.   Full Podcast Show Notes Episode Summary This message reflects on real examples of believers living out practical Christianity and demonstrates how the local church functions as a spiritual body. Through personal stories and biblical teaching, we see that worship is not confined to songs or words—it extends into how we give ourselves, our resources, and our lives to God's purposes. Past examples of church unity become living illustrations of biblical truth: • Standing together in times of need • Supporting missionary work through shared responsibility • Loving one another sacrificially • Understanding stewardship through worship rather than obligation • Recognizing that God desires relationship before sacrifice The focus throughout the message remains clear: giving begins with surrender to Christ.   Key Topics Discussed The testimony and servant heart of Lee Kervis The church body standing together during times of need Supporting missionary work through faith and commitment Biblical stewardship principles Worship through giving Sacrifice motivated by love Understanding the local church as the Body of Christ Practical and spiritual responsibility Trusting God with resources and future needs Joyful and consistent worship   Scripture References Philippians 2:2–4 — Unity and caring for others Deuteronomy 6:5 — Loving God with all your heart Matthew 22:37–38 — The greatest commandment Psalm 51:16–17 — The heart God desires John 3:16 — God's love demonstrated through sacrifice Romans 5:8 — Christ's love for sinners Romans 12:1–8 — Living sacrifice and the body of Christ Romans 12:20 — Loving and serving others 1 Corinthians 12 — Many members, one body Hebrews 2 — Christ and His redeemed people 1 John 4:10 — The true source of love   Key Takeaways ✔ Worship begins with surrender, not possessions ✔ God desires hearts before offerings ✔ Sacrifice without love misses God's purpose ✔ The local church is a living body joined together spiritually ✔ Stewardship involves trusting God with every resource ✔ Faithfulness often appears in unseen acts of service ✔ Giving should be joyful, consistent, and directed by God   Memorable Theme From This Message "God does not need our resources—He desires our hearts. The Spirit of His Son: Sonship, Prayer, and Our Eternal Inheritance

In Episode 117 of The Legacy Bible Podcast, we continue exploring the ministry and work of the Holy Spirit and discover how God's Spirit brings believers into the reality of sonship through Jesus Christ. This message examines what it means to be children of God, heirs with Christ, and recipients of an inheritance that stretches into eternity. Through passages in Galatians, Romans, Ephesians, Titus, and John, we examine how the Holy Spirit does not point attention to Himself but faithfully reveals and magnifies Christ in the believer's life. We also explore the Spirit's role in prayer, His intercession on our behalf, and the assurance believers have through God's promises. The episode concludes with practical warnings about spiritual confusion, counterfeit teachings, and the importance of grounding ourselves in God's truth while discerning the enemy's deceptions. Join us as we discover the confidence, comfort, and hope found in living as children of God.   Full Show Notes Episode Summary This week's study focuses on several foundational truths for the believer: The Holy Spirit brings spiritual life through Christ. Believers become children of God through faith in Jesus. The Spirit confirms our sonship and causes us to cry, "Abba, Father." Adoption speaks of entering into the fullness of our inheritance. The Holy Spirit serves as God's down payment and assurance of future glory. The Spirit intercedes perfectly when believers do not know how to pray. Christ remains our eternal High Priest and Intercessor. Christians must test teachings carefully and discern truth from deception.   Main Scripture References Galatians 4:4–7 "But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son..." Romans 8:26–34 "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities..." Ephesians 1:4–14 "...having predestinated us unto the adoption of children..." Titus 3:5–6 "...according to his mercy he saved us..." John 1:12 "But as many as received him..." John 3:5 John 17:17 Hebrews 2 1 John 4:1–3 2 Corinthians 11:14–15 Psalm 139   Key Discussion Points The Holy Spirit Gives Life Salvation comes through Christ alone. The Spirit applies Christ's finished work to the believer. Regeneration is God's work, not human effort. The Reality of Sonship Believers receive the authority to become children of God. The Spirit confirms that relationship and prompts us to call God our Father. Adoption and Eternal Inheritance Adoption is more than entering God's family. It points toward the fullness of our future inheritance in Christ. Believers possess the promise now and will experience its fullness later. The Holy Spirit as God's Down Payment The Spirit assures believers that greater things await. God gives His own Spirit as evidence of coming glory. Prayer and Intercession Human weakness limits understanding. The Holy Spirit perfectly intercedes according to God's will. Christ continually intercedes before the Father. Truth Versus Deception Believers must know Scripture. God's Word remains the standard of truth. Satan works through counterfeit teaching and confusion.   Memorable Takeaways "The Holy Spirit does not point us to Himself; He points us to Christ." "God has not merely promised an inheritance—He has given us His Spirit as assurance." "Know the truth, and know the enemy." "The believer's confidence rests in Christ's finished work."     Thanks for listening and please subscribe, comment and like. if you have any comments or questions please send them to legacybiblepodcast@gmail.com you can check out the website at www.legacybiblepodcast.com youtube channel at www.youtube.com/@legacybiblepodcast Rumble Channel at www.rumble.com/legacybiblepodcast Fellowship Bible Church website is at fbcjoliet.com please come back every week for another legacy lesson from the bible by the Rev Chuck Rains.
