In this message, Pastor Brian Mills walks through Nehemiah 5 and shows us how the fear of God should shape the way we handle conflict, generosity, leadership, and making things right. When internal conflict threatened the work God had given His people, Nehemiah didn’t ignore it or react emotionally. He confronted it, led with integrity, and called the people back to obedience. If you’ve ever dealt with conflict, division, frustration, or a situation you know you need to make right, this message is for you.📖 Scripture: Nehemiah 5🎙️ Series: NehemiahNOTES:When Christians fight Christians, the world wins.Visions thrive in an environment of unity, and they die in an environment of division. When internal conflict takes over, the energy God’s people should be spending on the mission starts getting spent on each other.Nehemiah 5:6–7“When I heard their outcry and these charges, I was very angry. I pondered them in my mind…”Before responding to what burns inside us, we need to have a meeting with ourselves.Proverbs 17:28“Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent; with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent.”James 1:19–20“You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.”Nehemiah didn’t ignore the conflict. He confronted it and gave the people a plan to make things right.Generosity goes beyond the tithe. How do we steward what God has given us?1. Give our tithe or first fruits.2. Give offerings above and beyond.3. Sow generously into the lives of others.Nehemiah 5:9“Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God to avoid the reproach of our Gentile enemies?”When Christians tear down other Christians and churches, it is the lost world watching that pays the greatest price. Every time Christians attack one another, we make it harder for a lost world to believe the Gospel we preach.Nehemiah 5:11“Give back to them immediately…”Conflict is not resolved when everybody says the right thing in the room. Conflict is resolved when everybody does the right thing after they leave the room. The glue holding Nehemiah’s leadership together was the fear of God.Nehemiah 5:15“But out of reverence for God I did not act like that.”The fear of God is not being afraid that God is waiting to destroy you. It is living with such a deep reverence for who God is that His authority, holiness, and presence shape every decision you make. The fear of God is displayed in the way you live your life, not simply in the words that come out of your mouth. If you truly lived in the fear of God, what would you need to make right today? Is there someone you have hurt?A burden you have added?A promise you have not kept?Something you need to return?A relationship you need to restore?A sin you need to confess?Don’t just say you’re sorry. Surrender it to God, take the first step toward making it right, and bring it to the altar.⛪ ABOUT TOGETHER WE CHURCHTogether We Church is located in Yukon, Oklahoma.
