    #16 | Habits = Identity & Identity = Habits

    Today’s segment makes aware of the idea that one cannot separate the personhood from their daily habits. We have many habits that have been carried into adulthood, not realizing they are linked to the beliefs about oneself. Whether they are good or bad habits, they are fully displayed. This chapter challenges us to decide who we desire to become. If we really desire to see some habits changed, we have to dig deep for those underlying beliefs about ourselves. We generally have a plan to change behaviors first. Subsequently, deep issues of the identity gets neglected, hence revolving back to bad habits. We discover that habit formation comes from deciding who you want to become. We then honor our identity by maintaining those habits associated with that identity.

Whether you are only productive 2 hours a day in your 8 hour shift or your MO is to run late to your commitments, these two examples are by far very telling about someone. Whether  you believe this or not, your poor stewardship of time is on full display and it is affecting you deeper than you imagine. How long will you allow poor time management to rob you of a plethora of peace, relationships, quality time, enriching environments, opportunities and most importantly, growth?     #12 | Tear Down the High Places

    High places are not a new phenomenon. You can read all about it in the book of 2 Kings. It is recorded that many kings enthroned chose not to tear down high places., though it is recorded that there was one that broke the mold. Nonetheless, we are not any different at times. We tend to still have some high places erected in our lives. 2 Corinthians 10:5 explicitly speaks of them, “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”  They may come in a variety of ways such as achievements, successes, people, fractured and ruminating thoughts, statuses, desires and so much more. All of which, are taking the place of God in our lives. I encourage you to venture with me about this sobering reality that many face today and the dangers of “high places” remaining in our lives.

    #11 | Hannah Had Manna

    We discover that it takes something deep…a deep seated faith on the inside of us to keep up calling on Jesus! This deep seated sustenance such as Hannah’s faith or this internal “manna” sustained her in her affliction, anguish and sorrow. She knew her LORD was the only one who had the answer in His hands. She knew where her help came from. She depicts an unwavering faith as she continued to pour her heart out to the LORD. We are encouraged to remain with a deep seated sustenance that keeps us calling on Jesus as He is our only hope and solution.

    #10 Humility Leads to Calling Upon the Name of the Lord

    We must learn to put “self” aside and let humility arise. Though main stream and even some of the Church world views humility as weak, the Lord can be elevated in our weakness. Humility is not exclusive to a weakness, however it is often time in our broken hearts and contrite spirit that results us identifying that we need Him. This is called humility and humility produces a desire within to “call upon the name of the Lord!.” What has kept you from calling on the name of the Lord? Let’s discuss the frailty of man and the need for humility to lead us to the call!
