  2. England retain O70s World Cup

    MAR 5

    England retain O70s World Cup

England retained the O70s World Cup they won in 2024 with a 15 run win over Australia at the magnificent Hagley Oval in Christchurch New Zealand. England were put in and Jim Phillips and Chris Evans added 183 in 30 overs for the first wicket.  England made 288/3 and in reply Australia were always behind the rate and finished 15 runs short despite a 115 unbeaten partnership in 13 overs between Gary Budden and Greg Stagg. The tournament started on the 18th of February and featured  England, USA, India, Canada, Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and a Rest of the World team. Each team played each other in a round robin format with the top two going through to the final. Australia won every game in the group stage and the only group match England lost was to Australia. Unfortunately, the rain did affect some of the games including the penultimate round of group games when New Zealand needed to beat England to have a chance of reaching the final NZ were 51 for five off 23 overs when the rain came and the match was abandoned The hosts finished 3rd on the same number of points as England but with a much inferior run rate  Canada and the USA both won 3 group matches  India with one win and Sri Lanka with no wins found the going quite tough  All the results can be found here: https://www.imco70cwc.kiwi/        Silver Stumps now has a small website which you can find at https://www.silverstumps.com/ - it features all the episodes and a little bit about Grant and Trevor, the co-hosts of the podcast.    If you've got feedback or observations about the podcast or ideas for future guests please drop us an email to podcast@trevorjlee.com or press ‘send us a text’ at the bottom of these notes - please include your name and contact details as otherwise we don't know who the message is from.  Send us a tex Send us Fan Mail Silver Stumps is the podcast aimed at Over 60s and Over 70s Cricketers. Here we are in the middle of February and there's lots of O60s and O70s Cricket to talk about. It's your final chance to win a copy of Roland Butcher's book 'Breaking Barriers - Barbados to England and back’. If you know the answer to the question we set the beginning of the episode then send your answer to podcast@trevorjlee.com We have a quick look back at the England O60s Lions tour of India and then focus on the fantastic effort by the England O70s who whitewashed their Australian hosts in their own backyard to retain the Silver Ashes and now look forward to defending the O70s World Cup in Christchurch New Zealand. It's an 8 team tournament featuring England, USA, India, Canada, Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and a Rest of the World team. Scotland Seniors Cricket catch up Clark McConnachie

In this episode Clark McConnachie, captain of Scotland Seniors O60s, reflects on a first year as Scotland Seniors and members of the IMC and looks ahead to Scotland playing in the O60s World Cup for the first time in August 2026 in Toronto.  Not only have they re-branded - previously all their matches were under the banner of the Forty Club - but earlier in the year Scotland Seniors became the 15th country to join the International Masters Cricket organisation. Scotland Seniors covers all ‘Masters’ ages groups under one roof - O40s, O50s, O60s and at some point going forward O70s.  The Scotland O60s played pre-season matches in April against Lancashire, Yorkshire and Durham/Northumberland. This was followed with matches in May against England and the England Lions and then a memorable full international against Australia at Stirling with final international matches in the Tri-Nations against Wales, England Lions and England - although the latter was cancelled due to adverse weather.  On a recent episode (87) we had the amazing Ron Hedley talking about his fantastic  cricket tour to the Vatican and the incredible fundraising for prostate cancer awareness which has raised almost £80,000. To make a donation to the amazing fundraising use this link: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/support-rons-march-for-prostate-cancer?tk=MTY2NDEzNTYxNjQ2MDkwOGQ3NzE4NjE0NTRkZGQ4ZWViNDRhODE4ODY5ZmY3ZTI5ZGY%3D And get yourself tested!  Silver Stumps now has a small website which you can find at https://www.silverstumps.com/ - it features all the episodes and a little bit about Grant and Trevor, the co-hosts of the podcast.    If you've got feedback or observations about the podcast or ideas for future guests please drop us an email to podcast@trevorjlee.com or press ‘send us a message’ at the bottom of these notes - please include your name and contact details as otherwise we don't know who the message is from.  Send us a text Send us Fan Mail Silver Stumps is the podcast aimed at Over 60s and Over 70s Cricketers.
