Ep 23: Yom Kippur & Jesus: Understanding the Ultimate Sacrifice

In this episode, Stefanie Thayer delves into the significance of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, within both Jewish and Christian traditions. She begins by discussing the Jewish calendar and key observances, such as Rosh Hashanah and the Days of Awe, which lead up to Yom Kippur. Stefanie explains that Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish year, focuses on repentance, atonement, and reconciliation with God and others. For Christians, Yom Kippur holds special meaning as a foreshadowing of Jesus' ultimate sacrifice, which replaces the need for ongoing sacrifices described in Levitical law. Throughout the podcast, Stefanie highlights the biblical origins of Yom Kippur, its symbolic practices like fasting and confession, and the role of the high priest. She draws parallels between the ancient rituals of atonement and Jesus' role as the ultimate high priest, whose death and resurrection grant eternal forgiveness to all believers. Stefanie emphasizes the importance of understanding the deep spiritual meaning behind these practices, encouraging listeners to seek a closer relationship with God through reflection and study of the scriptures. The episode concludes with a preview of the next podcast, which will focus on the Feast of Tabernacles, another important event in the biblical calendar. Ep 22: The Biblical New Year, Rosh Hashanah

In this episode, Stefanie Thayer continues her deep dive into the biblical calendar, focusing on the upcoming holy year 5785 and its significance. Building on her previous episode, Stefanie discusses how this year's theme, "redeeming the time by God's grace," resonates deeply in her life and for many others. She emphasizes God's love and forgiveness, which are not based on our works but on His grace.   Stefanie introduces Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year that starts on October 2, 2024, at sunset, and explains its different names and meanings. Themes around Rosh Hashanah include judgment, repentance, the kingship of God, and renewal. She highlights the significance of the shofar (ram’s horn) and its role in declaring God’s kingship, warning people to return to Him, and celebrating creation.   Stefanie also explains the two stages of Jewish marriage, Kiddushin (betrothal) and Nisuin (marriage), and how they symbolize the relationship between Christ and the Church. She ties this to scriptures, showing that the Church is currently in the "betrothal" phase, awaiting complete union with Christ at His second coming.   Finally, Stefanie encourages listeners to stay spiritually prepared for Christ’s return and urges them to study scripture regularly, emphasizing that God’s love and grace are available to all. Stay tuned for upcoming episodes, where she’ll explore more about the Days of Awe and the Feast of Tabernacles.
