Ep. 122 - The Wonder Days: Our Experience In Early Sobriety & What Kept Us Coming Back

Welcome back to this week's episode of Trudge Report. Thank you for supporting the show. We go around the horn. Corey rolls in fashionably late. Dan tells us how a local festival that was supposed to be family and community centric was taken over by teenagers where a handgun went off and local businesses were robbed and looted. We talk about how Ticketmaster and Live Nation continue to be public enemy number one for fans and concertgoers. The recovery segment is all about each of our experiences in the first 30 days of sobriety. Mostly not including when any of us were in rehab, but when we all got to the rooms of recovery and started to hear the message. Each of us talk about those experiences and what those days were like. For all of us it was a very simple time. We discuss how certain moments and certain key people in those days were finally important and without them, we don't know where we would be. We each take a turn describing what “kept us coming back."  Sovereignty is the God given Providence to experience life and its gentle loving path laid before us. -Dr. Scott S.  Don't forget to like, share, rate, and download the podcast on all of your listening platforms. Ep. 121 - Speedom of Freach: The Crutches of Addiction and Freedom from Bondage

Welcome back to this week's episode of Trudge Report. Thank you for supporting the show. We kick things off going around the horn with some long-awaited sunshine for the Ohio boys. Danny celebrates his 42nd birthday, softball season, new jobs, grilling weather, and a few proud parenting moments as the guys share updates on family life. From there we take a detour into Dave Matthews Band weekend. Corey and Shawn recap the concert experience, rare songs, setlists, and the disappointment of missing a longtime favorite. This leads into a spirited discussion about the juncture where music and politics meet, and if this should even be the case. Do musicians have a right to use their platform on stage however they want for their political views or should they just play music and rock out? How much political rhetoric is too much or any at all?  We then shift into the recovery segment and pick up where last week's conversation left off. The guys take a deep dive into Vivitrol, Suboxone, maintenance medications, and the difference between staying alive and finding lasting freedom through a spiritual experience. We discuss whether recovery tools can become crutches, the role of personal responsibility, and what it actually means to address the underlying problem rather than simply removing the substance. At the end of the day helping people stay alive long enough to find a better way remains something we can all stand behind. Without action, gratitude is just a pleasant emotion  - anonymous Don't forget to like, share, rate, and download the podcast on all of your listening platforms. Ep. 120 - How We Deal With Relapse: Mormons, Vivitrol, Boneless Wings, & Rock Bottom

Hello and welcome back to another episode of Trudge Report. Thank you for your listenership and patronage of the show. We are recording this on Memorial Day so we first want to take a moment and honor those who have given their lives in service for our country. This week we have a lively around the Horn discussion surrounding Mormons, Brigham Young University, premarital sex, and retired college basketball players. Big shout out to Dan's wife, Alyssa, for graduating college. We also pause for another moment of silence for Cory's grandmother who passed away recently. 98 years old and a life well lived. And naturally Greg finishes this segment off with a quick rant about boneless chicken wings.  The recovery segment surrounds the topic of how we deal with people who have relapsed or who continue to constantly relapse. We discuss briefly how we think our loved ones and significant others should deal with us if we were in that place. We talked about the never give up mentality that recovery has for everyone, even if on a personal level, we have to discontinue talking with someone for a time and show some tough love. We then move into the discussion about how much of a physical bottom a person needs to truly hit before a genuine surrender. Lastly, we have a somewhat recurring discussion about suboxone maintenance, vivitrol, and other drinks, drugs, and medications that are supposed to help quell the craving and desire to drink alcohol lol and do drugs. This one we leave on a bit of a cliffhanger for a future episode. The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light       -Matthew ch 6- Don't forget to like, share, rate, and download the podcast on all of your listening platforms. Ep. 118 - Reaching Into the Darkness: The Truest Expression of Love & Watching Others Grow

Hello and welcome back to the Trudge Report Podcast. Happy Mother's Day to all of the wonderful mothers out there. Thank you for your listenership and support of the show. This week we are all scattered a bit. We are recording a day later than normal to make certain we were all available for Mother's Day and not cutting the holiday short. Dan is at softball tonight and Shawn is traveling for work but he might pop up later in the show. Greg and Corey are at the helm and God help us all. The boys discuss their respective Mother's Day festivities and the various endeavors they faced. Then they have a spirited discussion on grocery store flowers vs buying from a florist. Greg talks about a recent quick vacation to Dallas, TX. Corey kicks off the recovery segment with a quote from former TRP guest, Chris McKinnel, and his new book The Warren Legacy. It sparks a great conversation about what it really means to be helpful to someone. What are the lengths and depths we go to helping a person find themselves and their spirit once again or for the first time. The privilege of watching people get sober, build families & lives, and then turn around and do the same for someone else.  The pain of your loss is living proof of the joy you possessed. -Joy Davidman (C.S. Ep. 117 - Time To Man Up: An Exploration Of Character And Leadership

Hello and welcome back to the Trudge Report Podcast. Thank you for your listenership and support of the show. This week the four of us are back in action as we go around the horn. Greg is sweating out a game 7 for the Cavs in the 1st round of the NBA playoffs while Corey is very pleased with his Philadelphia Flyers series victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1st round of the Stanley Cup Finals. Dan has a very hot take and quick rant about soccer being the inferior youth sport (listeners make sure you let us know what you think in the comment section). Shawn tells a cool story of a kids t-ball team party at an ex major league baseball player's home. The main topic in this episode surrounds the subject of what it actually means to be a man. Who taught us? What we were taught and what we got wrong. The lessons we learned growing up and especially once we got sober and evolved in this phase of our lives. We discuss how we feel we are perceived by others, mainly our families and friends. The role of being a provider versus a nurturer and the balance therein. We closed the show with what we would tell our former younger selves, the best piece of guidance we could give and what to watch out for. The great thing about this journey is that no one can take it for us or spare us of it. Ep. 115 - Is Religion Enough? Where Religion & Spirituality Diverge In Our Recovery

Hello and welcome to another episode of Trudge Report. Thank you for listening and supporting the show. We begin this week with some quick life updates. Greg's week took a turn for the not so good but he's keeping a positive attitude and looking at it as an opportunity rather than a negative. Dan continues to be baffled by the hot and cold weather swings in his neck of the woods and also taking his daughter and her softball team to go watch Ohio State v Penn State softball. Corey power washes his mom's driveway and admits that it is mediocre at best. Followed by some late night Taco Bell runs.  The recovery portion of the show this week surrounds the necessity or choice of whether we in recovery practice any type of religion or belong to religious bodies. We make it clear that religion or religious membership is not mandatory for happy and lasting sobriety. However, there is some overlap for many of us and there are many people in recovery that choose to take up membership in religious organizations. We discuss what we feel works and does not work in religion, keeping it plain in sight that we are not telling anyone how they must or must not believe. We discuss each of our childhood religious upbringings and where we are now with these beliefs and practices.
