Rescuing Ravenstocke

Love the music, 🎶 love the tone, love Eva’s character.

Fun sci-fi story featuring a witty self-described nerd on her time-traveling, spy thriller adventure in 1934 London via a mysterious “gizmo” invented by the charmingly Scottish Paul Ravenstocke. Tonally, the thumbnail of this podcast does a disservice to the show imho because the vibe does not match. Ava Delman is not a weeping damsel in distress, nor is the focus of the show on her losing her grip, more on her convincing others that she really did travel back through time somehow and then getting tangled up in international affairs (and an affair of the heart, if you will). I put off listening to this pretty well-made show for a long time because I thought it was going to be more self-serious and sappy than it actually is. It’s a fun little show if you like soft sci-fi with a splash of international intrigue, history, and romance.

If you’ve wanted to find an audio drama akin to “Indiana Jones” (golden age of pulp fiction adventure story) crossed with “The Time Traveller’s Wife” (star-crossed time traveling lovers), you’re in luck! This audio drama has the precursor to World War II spies, espionage, double crossing, as well as a modern woman’s resourcefulness taking on another era, time travel laws, and a new love. While I don’t always understand exactly how the protagonist always knows what to do given her graphic designer background, I still certainly enjoyed this adventure/mystery romp. As well as the vintage music and the charismatic Scotsman (?) who plays the humble but genius inventor. Much recommended!
