What Is The Latest Technology in Breast Cancer Detection with CEO and Chemist Elizabeth Cormier-May

Have you or a female friend recently gone through a mammogram as part of yearly testing? Did you or your friend feel discomfort or have complaints about the process?   For this week’s episode of the Weekend Wellness Hour Show, we interviewed CEO and chemist Elizabeth Cormier-May about mammograms and the importance of testing for breast cancer.  Elizabeth shared with us her novel approach that is now being tested through pilot studies that allows for easy detection of cancer markers.   Elizabeth began her career as a medicinal chemist focusing on ways to discover cancer in its early stages.  She decided to change into diagnostics to have a greater impact in women’s lives.    We first discussed some of the issues with mammograms that are a barrier to them being performed on a regular basis for women aged 40 year and older.  We explored the issue of false positives and the difficulty of detection for those with dense breast tissue.    We also touched on the lack of accessibility to mammograms for those in more rural areas and how that led Elizabeth to search for other ways to provide a screening test.  She began working with Mammogen, a female-led biotechnology company that uses the proprietary genTRU™ liquid biopsy platform.    Elizabeth explained the premise of liquid biopsy and went into the technology that allows for the detection cancer markers in saliva and blood.  She discussed how cancer leads to changes in our RNA so their technology detects those biomarker changes that are in our body fluids.   This process allows for women all over the world who have little access to healthcare clinics to be able to receive a test kit in the mail and do a saliva swab to determine if she has cancer markers that warrant a mammogram or further testing.  It helps remove the barriers to testing like discomfort from a mammogram or poor detection due to dense breast tissue.   Mammogen is currently doing pilot studies in various areas around the United States to provide more solid data to back up their initial highly successful results.  Part of their work is to make this affordable and accessible to all, even those who are younger with a history of breast cancer in the family.   Elizabeth has been in the biotechnology industry for nearly 20 years.  As well as leading Mammogen, Liz is also the CCO of IV Bioholdings; a bio innovation studio that conceives, creates and develops first-in-category RNA bio platforms which radically improve the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease. Currently, she is Chairman of the Board, Co-Founder, President and CEO of her digital health start-up, Persona Health, Inc. and CEO and Board Director of Mammogen, Inc.   Please join us to learn this amazing technology to help you and women in your life detect breast cancer.   Please feel free to reach out to Elizabeth Cormier-May at https://www.mammogen.bio/.   -Dr. Amy Novotny   Subscribe to PABR Institute's email list for free Tips for Relief: https://pabrinstitute.activehosted.com/f/1   www.pabrinstitute.com
