Nomadic grassroots innovations within the maritime shipping sector

In this episode we explore nomadic grassroots innovations in the maritime shipping sector together with Human geographer, sustainability transitions researcher, and sailor Hanna Bach, who recently defended her thesis, titled ”Navigating Sustainable Shipping: Multi-scalar transition dynamics in the maritime shipping sector”. Hanna will take us around the world with these nomadic initiatives, focusing on sustainability connections, hindrances, and promoters to their progression, and why and how they are important alternatives to explore and develop further, for the sake of our future. The language spoken in this episode is English, and the Podcast host is Sanna Händén-Svensson. About Hanna Bach Hanna Bach comes from a background in environmental and sustainability science and has recently defended her PhD thesis in Human Geography. She also has previous working experience from the maritime shipping industry. In her research, Hanna explores different aspects of what is needed to replace fossil fuels with more sustainable fuels and technologies in the maritime shipping sector. For her PhD project, Hanna has investigated the influence of global and national policy incentives on development and implementation of more sustainable technologies, as well as how community-initiated bottom-up grassroots innovations form and develop in the maritime shipping sector. Her research interests also include how we can make sectors that are specifically hard to decarbonise, such as the shipping industry, more sustainable, as well as how well-established global structures influence sustainability processes in international sectors.  Hosted on Acast.
