The “Perfect Marriage” Myth | Ep 125

If you’ve ever looked at someone’s marriage and thought, “Well… they probably just have it easy,” this episode is for you. 😉 Because after 40 years together, we can confidently say: there have been beautiful seasons… hard seasons… stressful seasons… funny seasons… stretching seasons… and seasons where we absolutely needed rest, grace, laughter, and God to hold us together! No joke. This isn’t an episode about having a perfect marriage. It’s a conversation about what has helped us KEEP choosing each other through plenty of real life lifey-ness. While celebrating our 40th anniversary in Turks & Caicos, we found ourselves reflecting on the little things that have sustained us all these years, things like spiritual connection, gratitude, humor, personal space, shared purpose, protecting peace, and learning how to see God in both the ordinary AND extraordinary moments of life. We also talk about the incredible hospitality we experienced during our trip and why we started calling it our “God bubble.” From thoughtful tiny details to overwhelming kindness, the experience reminded us how deeply human beings need delight, beauty, care, rest, and wonder. In this episode we talk about: 💙 What has actually sustained our marriage 💙 Why joy and playfulness matter spiritually 💙 The “ministry of delight” 💙 Traditional biblical roles in marriage 💙 Protecting peace instead of winning arguments 💙 Why gratitude keeps your heart soft 💙 How we stay spiritually connected after 40 years 💙 The surprising magic of separate bedrooms 😂 💙 And why sometimes God speaks through sunsets, tiny cookies by your bedside, and unexpected kindness from strangers that became friends ✨ RESOURCES & THINGS REFERENCED IN THIS EPISODE: 📖 Theo of Golden by Allen Levi: https://amzn.to/4tXa39V (Terry’s favorite vacation read/listen) ☀️ Crunchi Sunlight SPF: 15% off for new clients using code ADVOCATE15 - crunchi.com/?als=lisamccoskey&cartToken=hWNCfUVoAzMr2YxoLtCVNI7G?key=40eb3f2211845bc0f56a8889c92f4c2e (+ Lisa’s thoughts on intentional sunshine and strategic protection) 🌴 Wymara Resort + Villas, in Turks & Caicos: https://www.wymara.com (The beautiful resort experience that inspired our “God bubble” conversation! This week on Living Well Together, Lisa and Terry dive into the fascinating concept of motor monotony... the repetitive movement patterns and routines that can quietly dull brain vitality over time. What Your Roof Can Teach You About Your Health | Ep.119

What started as a few missing shingles turned into something much bigger… and honestly? Way more meaningful. In this show, Lisa and Dr. Terry take you behind the scenes of a real-life home restoration—new roof, skylights, gutters, the whole deal—and connect it to something we all care about: our health. Because here’s the thing… Just like a house can look perfectly fine on the outside while hiding damage underneath, our bodies can do the exact same thing. They dive into:  - Why symptoms often show up far from the actual problem  - How “rot” in your health can go unnoticed until someone really looks  - The truth about germs (hint: they’re more like flies than villains)  - Why your internal environment matters more than you think  - And how real restoration, whether it’s your home or your body, can get a little messy before it gets beautiful You’ll also hear a powerful reminder that health isn’t about random quick fixes… it’s about having a plan, addressing the foundation, and creating an environment where your body can actually thrive. And just when you think they’re done… they bring it full circle with something we all experience: once things start improving, you naturally want to level up even more. This one is equal parts practical, eye-opening, and so relatable. If you’ve ever wondered why you don’t feel like yourself, even when everything “looks fine”, this episode is for you. Let them know about one of your favorite home or body restorations in the comments! They love to hear from you!!
