Living Well Together with Brice Davis | Ep 136

What happens when life changes almost overnight? For Xenia native Brice Davis, it meant facing a multiple myeloma diagnosis in his early 30s while raising a young daughter, navigating a custody battle, and carrying mental health struggles that had already been part of his story for years. In this episode of Living Well Together: Big Life in a Small Town, Brice joins us to talk about the season that eventually became his memoir, Rise Anyway. We talk about the symptoms that finally led to his diagnosis, months of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant, becoming a full-time dad, living with uncertainty, and what it means to keep building a life when you don't necessarily know what the next chapter holds. But this conversation isn't really about cancer. It's about what Brice discovered on the other side of some incredibly hard days: the hard days don't get to tell you how the whole story ends. Brice shares something we loved: when you're in a valley, it's easy to convince yourself you'll feel that way forever. But life has peaks too. There is a bounce-back. There are still memories to make, people to love, goals to chase, and purpose to find. We also talk about family, asking for help when you'd rather do everything yourself, mental health, finding purpose through adversity, writing a book when you never really planned to write one, strawberry-banana smoothies, a serious love of chicken wings, and the hip-hop career Brice refuses to resurrect for us on the podcast. 😂 His message is beautifully simple: You can be scared and still move forward. You can live with uncertainty and still live fully. You can go through something that changes you and come back stronger. You can rise anyway. This is a hometown story about resilience, fatherhood, purpose, and an ordinary guy who walked through something extraordinary and decided his experience might help someone else keep going. And THAT feels a whole lot like Living Well Together. ❤️ Connect with Brice: 🌐 Brice Davis — https://thebricedavis.com/ 📖 Rise Anyway: A Memoir of Survival, Fatherhood, and Becoming: https://thebricedavis.com/rise-anyway-by-brice-davis/ 📺 YouTube — https://www.youtube.com/@BriceDavis 📸 Instagram — https://www.instagram.com/BriceDavisMedia 🎵 TikTok — @https://www.tiktok.com/@BriceDavisMedia 👍 Facebook — https://www.facebook.com/BriceDavisMedia 🎙️ Book Nook: https://www.wyso.org/podcast/book-nook/2026-07-08/book-nook-rise-anyway-a-memoir-of-survival-fatherhood-and-becoming-by-brice-davis

What Everyone Gets Wrong about MLMs | Ep 135

What comes to mind when you hear the letters MLM? For a lot of people, it's a cringe-worthy stereotype. 😬 But what if we've been asking the wrong questions? In this episode, Dr. Terry and Lisa pull back the curtain on multi-level marketing, where it came from, why it developed such a mixed reputation, and how to tell the difference between a legitimate direct-selling company and something you should absolutely run from. Along the way, we share stories from an incredible week at the Barbara O'Neill conference, why discernment matters more than hype, and the filters we've always used before saying "yes" to any opportunity. We also open up about why we're excited to add a new European wellness company to our Living Well portfolio, and why this decision has been years in the making, not an overnight impulse. Whether you're curious about direct selling, have written it off completely, or simply enjoy thoughtful conversations about business, integrity, and living well, we hope this episode gives you a fresh perspective. In this episode, we discuss: * Why MLMs and pyramid schemes are not the same thing * The surprising history of direct selling * The product-first philosophy we believe every company should have * How faith, patience, and discernment guide our decisions * Why relationships—not recruiting—have always been at the heart of what we do * What we're learning as we prepare for an exciting new season If you've ever wondered whether it's possible to build a business with integrity, this conversation is for you. Feeling Overwhelmed? Let's Talk Brain Hacks, Nicotine & Nootropics | Ep 134

Ever feel like your brain has 47 tabs open... and you have absolutely no idea where the music is coming from? 😅 That's pretty much where this conversation starts. Well... technically it starts with Honey's adorable singing debut, and trust us—you do NOT want to miss it. (Stick around for her grand finale, too. It might just be the cutest part of the whole episode.) From there, Dr. Terry and Lisa dive into what life looks like when everything seems to happen all at once. Big projects. Family. Exciting opportunities. Deadlines. Spinning plates. And that very human temptation to look for a quick fix when your brain feels like it's running on overload. Along the way, they laugh about life, share Terry's personal journey with nicotine, unpack the surprising science behind nicotine and nootropics, and talk honestly about why so many of us are searching for more focus, more energy, and a little more mental clarity. But here's the bigger question... What if the best "brain hack" isn't another trendy product? What if the real foundation has been there all along? Sleep. Movement. Nourishing your body well. Supporting your nervous system. And learning how to work *with* your brain instead of constantly trying to override it. If you've ever wondered... • Why does my brain feel so overwhelmed? • Are nootropics actually worth the hype? • Is nicotine really as simple as "good" or "bad"? • Why are so many people looking for shortcuts to better focus? ...this conversation is for you. This is Part 1 of a two-part series, where Dr. Terry and Lisa lay the foundation before diving deeper into caffeine, L-theanine, creatine, CBD, THC, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and other fascinating tools that influence brain health. As always, their goal isn't to tell you what to think. It's to invite you to stay curious, ask better questions, and build your health on a foundation that lasts. Disclaimer: Educational purposes only. Nicotine is a biologically active compound and isn't appropriate for everyone. Always discuss new supplements or therapies with your healthcare provider, especially if you have a medical condition, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or take prescription medications. Going Through the Change | Ep 133

Change is rarely comfortable... but what if it's the very place where God does some of His greatest work? In this episode, what begins as a lighthearted conversation about sorting loose change (and yes... going through "the change") unexpectedly unfolds into a heartfelt discussion about courage, faith, and the beautiful transformation that often happens in life's most uncertain seasons. Together, we explore why our brains naturally resist change, why uncertainty feels so overwhelming, and why the life we're praying for often requires letting go of the life we've grown comfortable living. Along the way, we share stories from our own journey—career changes, marriage, raising children, growing businesses, seasons of pruning, butterflies, and the quiet reminders that God is often preparing us for something greater long before we can see the full picture. For nearly three decades, we've tried to ask one simple question: How can we serve people best? Sometimes the answer isn't doing more of what's familiar. Sometimes it's having the discernment to recognize the next opportunity to serve, and the courage to faithfully take the next step, even before you can see how the story will unfold. If you've been standing at the edge of a decision... wrestling with fear... grieving a season that's ending... or sensing God inviting you into something new, we hope this conversation encourages your heart. Because sometimes the very thing we're trying to avoid becomes the doorway to the life we've been praying for. So grab a cup of coffee, settle in, and join us for a conversation filled with laughter, honest moments, and a reminder that our greatest confidence isn't found in knowing what comes next... it's found in knowing the One who is already there. Maybe the question isn't, "What if it doesn't work?" Maybe the better question is... "What if God is preparing something even more beautiful than you could imagine or fathom?" Isaiah 43:19 — "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?" What if one of the greatest threats to your family's health isn't what's on your plate...but what's missing from your table? Somewhere along the way, we traded home-cooked meals for convenience, family conversations for busy schedules, and life-giving traditions for drive-thrus and distractions. The result? What if the problem isn't your willpower... What if it's the diet itself? In this episode of Living Well Together, Dr. Terry and Lisa expose one of the biggest myths in the health industry: that losing weight is the answer. The truth? Weight gain is often just a symptom of metabolic dysfunction, and until you address the root cause, the cycle continues. In this conversation, you'll discover:  - Why nearly 90% of diets fail  - What metabolic health actually means (and why it matters more than the number on the scale)  -  The hidden calories quietly sabotaging your progress  -  Why muscle is one of your body's most powerful metabolic organs  -  The surprising role sleep plays in cravings and weight gain  -  The lab markers almost no one talks about including fasting insulin  -  Simple ways to improve insulin sensitivity naturally  -  Healthy waist circumference and waist-to-hip ratio guidelines  -  Why "going on a diet" may be the biggest mistake you can make Whether you're trying to lose weight, improve your labs, boost your energy, or simply age well, this episode will help you shift your focus from temporary dieting to lasting metabolic restoration. Your Body Is Sounding the Alarm (Are You Listening?) | Ep 130

What if your body has been trying to warn you... long before a health crisis ever happens? After being jolted awake at 1:00 AM by blaring smoke alarms, Dr. Terry and Lisa found themselves talking about something much bigger than dead batteries. Just like a smoke detector, our bodies often send subtle warning signs long before the "four-alarm fire" of chronic illness. In this episode, they explore why stress isn't meant to become a lifestyle, the difference between prevention and early detection, and how small "chirps" like fatigue, poor sleep, pain, brain fog, and rising blood pressure may be your body's way of asking for attention and not just another prescription. They also discuss the growing shift toward preventive healthcare, including innovative insurance models like Knew Health, which reward healthy lifestyle choices instead of simply paying for sickness after it occurs. In this episode, you'll learn: - Why chronic stress keeps your body stuck in fight-or-flight - The early warning signs your body may already be giving you - Prevention vs. early detection (and why the difference matters) - Why lifestyle—not genetics—drives most chronic disease - How "checking your batteries" today could prevent tomorrow's health crisis Resources Mentioned: - Learn more about Knew Health and its prevention-focused health plans. Why You're Tired... and It's Not What You Think | Ep 129 Pt 2

In Part 2 of our Sleep Series, Dr. Terry and Lisa explore why sleep isn't just about getting more hours—it's about understanding what your body is trying to tell you. From stress hormones and blood sugar swings to nervous system health, inflammation, spinal alignment, and metabolic function, you'll discover why poor sleep is often a symptom rather than the real problem. In this episode, you'll learn: * Why being overtired can actually make sleep worse * What waking between 2:00–4:00 AM may be telling you * How your metabolism and sleep quality affect each other * Dr. Terry's favorite sleep positions for spinal health * Natural strategies to help your body relax and recover * Simple habits that can dramatically improve your sleep—starting tonight Most importantly, we discuss one question we believe everyone should ask: Instead of "How do I fix my sleep?" ask, "Why is my body struggling to sleep in the first place?"
