The Initiations of a Woman No One Talks About - Freedom through Motherhood with Tova Olsson | Ep 40

I have butterflies sharing this one with you. And I say it because when I name it, I can breathe into it and relax. Because this episode asks something of both of us. It asks us to be real. I sit with Tova Olsson, known in our community as Saraswati Studies, a Shakta Tantra teacher, scholar of religion, PhD candidate, mother of two and devoted worshipper of the Divine Mother. We had been in each other's field for a while, my students had studied with her, and when we finally came together during the Inner Light Jyotish Festival, I just felt it. Now is the time. And so we dove right in. Both of us. Fully. For the very first time I speak out loud about getting pregnant, about not being able to find my true answer until the very last moment, and about the choice I made. And what came through that portal the birth, the body, the Shakti, the grief, the healing, the rituals changed me in ways I am still integrating. I feel like a different woman than I was before all of this. And Tova brings her story with the same depth and courage. Of becoming a single mother of two, of how the Goddess arrived in her life as pure limitation, and how that pressure became the very fire that transformed her sadhana and her understanding of love. We also go deep into what it means to mother ourselves. The fears that live in the body that we don't even know are there until something cracks them open. How many women have carried so much in silence, unprocessed, unnamed. And how much can shift when we finally speak it and receive it with love. This is a conversation between two women who have walked through it. Not around it. Through it. And we are here on the other side to say it is possible to love yourself completely through everything the Goddess brings. Jai Ma.P.S. Tova and I are planning to host something together soon so stay updated. ___ Keynotes - Moksha or liberation through motherhood and trauma- How pregnancy and birth serve as powerful initiations and goddess practices- The healing power of rituals- Sexual trauma and its impact on spiritual awakening and maternal courage- The importance of community, ancestral rituals, and trauma integration- How attachment, societal expectations, and body changes influence the spiritual path- The role of feminine archetypes- The significance of holistic practices for healing and empowerment- The evolving cultural and spiritual support systems for women and mothers ABOUT Tova Olsson Tova Olsson is a scholar of religion, author and yoga teacher with over 20 years of experience in education. 2. The True Meaning of Dharma with Swamini Brahmaprajnananda Saraswati | Ep 39

The True Meaning of Dharma with Swamini Brahmaprajnananda Saraswati | Ep 39

In this episode, I’m in conversation with a very special guest, Swamini Brahmaprajnananda Saraswati, someone I deeply revere. Our connection is rooted in a shared devotion to freedom, and in the living legacy of our teacher, Swami Dayananda Saraswati, whose work revived the traditional teaching of Advaita Vedanta as a precise means of knowledge. I first met her during my time attending courses in Coimbatore. I remember meeting her before she had taken on the role of a Swamini, and it feels meaningful to reconnect here in this way. Swamini’s background bridges two worlds. She holds a PhD in psychology and worked closely with children, yet even with a deep understanding of the human mind, there was still a sense of something unresolved. In this conversation, she shares how that led her to Vedanta, and how what she discovered brought a clarity that psychology alone could not provide. We explore how psychology supported her journey, where its limitations began to show, and how that understanding now informs the way she teaches. We also speak about the role of the guru, the challenges around trust, and how dharma can be understood in a grounded, practical way, not as rules, but as values that shape how we live and relate. This conversation is both personal and precise, rooted in lived experience and a teaching that continues through a living tradition. If you’ve ever felt that understanding yourself still leaves something unresolved, this conversation may meet you there. Keynotes -Swaminiji's Journey to Vedanta -The Meaning of Guru and Its Significance in Vedanta -Differences Between Traditional Vedanta and Neo-Advaita -The Role of Ishvara in Spiritual Practice -The Concept of Dharma and Swadharma in Daily Life -The Importance of Systematic Study and Lineage in Vedanta -Overcoming Misconceptions About Scriptures -Challenges with Organized Religion -The Influence of Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati -Personal Transformation Through Vedanta ABOUT Swamini Brahmaprajnananda Saraswati Swamini Brahmaprajnananda Saraswati Ph. D has dedicated her life to serving Sanatana Dharma by teaching Advaita Vedanta. Seamlessly flowing from the breadth of self-mastery to the depth of self-discovery, her teachings span the full range of the tradition: regular online Vedanta courses, workshops, and residential retreats in India and internationally; faculty teaching at the Hindu University of America of three core courses; one-one mentoring sessions with disciples, and a podcast Vedanta: The River of Wisdom, along with video teachings that reach students across the globe. She is the founder of SHINE (Spiritual Heritage of India for Next-gen Empowerment), a teaching program to help children live a powerful life of Sanatana Dharma. She is the author of You Matter: Insights from Vedānta which helps beginners to Vedanta, glide into the teachings. A direct disciple of the revered Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati, she completed an intensive three-year residential course in Vedanta, Sanskrit, and Vedic chanting at Arsha Vidya Gurukulam across Coimbatore and Rishikesh — one of the most rigorous programs of traditional Vedantic learning available today. Prior to this while balancing her work commitments she had deepened her study over twelve years under Swami Brahmavidananda and later Swami Sakshatkrtananda, the Acharya of the course in the gurukulam. Before entering monastic life, in a career of 15 years, Swamini Brahmaprajnananda served as Country Head (India) of an international humanitarian organization whose work transformed the lives of over 150,000 street children. She has a Ph D in Philosophy and an M.Phil in psychology. A trained psychologist by background, she carries that understanding of the human mind into the heart of the wisdom of Vedanta, pointing students to what they truly are, boundless and ever free. Sacred Offering into the Fire of Knowledge for Freedom Moksha in Mother Bali with Ingela Indirā Devī | Ep 38

I have to be honest with you… this episode is something I have been wanting to create for a long, long time. Not because I was waiting for the right moment, but because she usually wouldn’t do this kind of thing. And then she said YES. So here we are. In this episode, I’m not just welcoming a guest. I’m sitting with someone who has walked beside me for years… Ingela Indirā Devī is not only a dear friend, she is my Guru Bai, my sister in the same lineage. We have been neighbours in Bali for more than a decade. Shared teachers, shared devotion, shared moments of being deeply “cooked” by life. Here, we speak about Bali, not as a place you visit, but as something that meets you… challenges you… transforms you. A place that doesn’t let you escape yourself. A place that invites you into the fire again and again, until something deeper stabilizes. Ingela shares her journey of arriving here with nothing but a knowing. Of living through uncertainty, not even knowing if there would be enough for the next day… and discovering that in that exact place, something sacred reveals itself. And then life brought her into an even deeper fire. Her home… completely burned to the ground. I also shared something deeply personal in this episode… a dream pattern that had lived in my body for decades, and how, through the grace of ritual, prayer, and this land, something finally released. It wasn’t forced. It wasn’t figured out. It unfolded when I was ready to meet it. And that’s what this conversation keeps pointing back to… We don’t bypass the fire. We offer ourselves into it. Again and again. She is a truly one-of-a-kind woman—deeply devoted, committed, devotional, and dharmic in all areas of her life. She embodies sacred service through her unwavering dedication to her children, to their school in North Bali, to the Norwegian school in Sanur, and to her Sanskrit students. She is also the co-creator of Bumiyatra Sacred Tours and Pilgrimages, which she has lovingly organized for many years with her dear brother Bruce Dharma. Together they guide people on authentic sacred journeys and treks, far beyond the ordinary tourist path, into the deeper heart of Bali and its spiritual essence. Ingela has risen like a phoenix through life’s many transformations and stands as a living embodiment of Vedantic wisdom—the vision of oneness and the remembrance of the limitless Self. For many years, she has been in my life as a sacred sister, a mirror, a beloved friend, and a cherished community member. We have shared the path of light and shadow, each returning home to the truth of who we are—together and separately. It is such a profound honor to walk this life alongside her, and an even greater honor to welcome her onto this podcast so that all of you may come to know the depth, beauty, and radiance of this extraordinary woman, a living Goddess. Rising Like a Phoenix with Razwana Ananda | Ep 37

In this episode of the Born to Be Free, I welcome Razwana Ananda Devi into a deeply intimate conversation on transformation, devotion, and inner awakening. Born in Scotland to Pakistani parents, Razwana’s journey led her across the world to New Zealand, where the ending of a long-term relationship became a sacred turning point. What once felt like heartbreak opened the doorway to profound self-discovery, guiding her into feminine embodiment, healing, and spiritual inquiry. Rising like a phoenix from heartbreak, she devoted herself to self-love, expanded into abundance, and began to recognize the limitless essence within. Through her deep immersion in sacred feminine teachings and the Devi School pathways, including The Heroine’s Journey, alongside her devotion to Vedanta, she anchored into the recognition that nothing outside of us can complete what is already whole. In this conversation, Razwana also opens the doorway into her journey with money and abundance, gently unraveling the limiting beliefs shaped by her upbringing and transforming her relationship with wealth. She speaks to money not as something to fear or chase, but as a tool for growth, self-worth, and conscious living, reminding us that abundance is not scarce, but infinite and available. Now, as a holistic life coach, she guides women back to their inner abundance and inherent worth, supporting them to create love and life from wholeness rather than lack. If you are ready to soften into both love and abundance… this conversation is for you.   KEYNOTES: -Introduction and Background of Razwana Ananda Devi -Razwana's Journey of Transformation -Healing Through Feminine Empowerment -The Power of Self-Discovery and Coaching -Navigating Relationships and Personal Growth -Embracing Self-Love and Vulnerability -The Journey to Finding True Love -Challenging Gender Norms in Relationships -Personal Growth and Life Reflections -Understanding Money Mindset and Beliefs -The Flow of Money and Abundance -The Role of Support and Mentorship -Conscious Wealth and Social Responsibility -The Journey of Self-Discovery and Abundance ABOUT Razwana Ananda Razwana Ananda is a holistic life and relationship coach who supports professional, high-achieving women to attract conscious love, aligned partnership, and abundance through deep inner transformation, embodied self-leadership, and intuitive practice. 5. Returning to the Roots with Purnama | Ep 36

Returning to the Roots with Purnama | Ep 36

What if the place that shaped your wounds… also holds a piece of your belonging? There are places we learn to turn away from. Places where we felt too different. Too foreign. Too much… or not enough. Places where we tried to belong… and quietly decided, “maybe I don’t.” And so we leave. We search for ourselves elsewhere, in other lands, other people, other ways of being… hoping that somewhere out there, it will finally feel like home. We reinvent. We adapt. We become who we need to be to survive. And yet… something in us remembers. A quiet pull. A subtle ache. A feeling that something is still unfinished. But what happens… when life calls you back? Not to relive the past, but to meet it differently. Not to become who you were, but to reclaim what was left behind. In this episode of Born to Be Free, I sit with Purnama Melissa, a singer, songwriter, sound healer, ceremonialist, and keeper of indigenous wisdom. Born to a Swiss father and a Balinese mother, Purnama carries two worlds within her. A life shaped by both richness and rupture, by cultural depth and deep personal challenges. Her younger years were marked by trauma, disconnection, and a profound sense of not being understood, leading her to leave home at 18 in search of healing. And yet… through that very path, something sacred began to unfold. Through music. Through prayer. Through returning to the land of her ancestors. This conversation opens within a solstice space, a threshold of transition and deep remembrance. From Switzerland to Bali, from disconnection to devotion, from silence to voice, this conversation reveals what it really means to return. Not by becoming someone else… But by remembering who you have always been. Because the journey is not about choosing one identity over another. It is about learning how to belong… to all of yourself.. to your roots.. To the parts shaped by love. And the parts shaped by pain. To the cultures that formed you. And the spaces where you felt you didn’t fit. There is something tender here. The quiet ache of not fitting in. The in-between spaces. The longing to feel at home, somewhere, anywhere. And also… the beauty of discovering that belonging is not something you find outside of you. It is something you allow yourself to return to. Again and again. What if nothing was wasted? What if the places that didn’t hold you the way you needed… are still part of your path to wholeness? If you’ve ever felt like an outsider in your own life… If you’ve ever questioned where you truly belong… If something in you is being gently pulled back, to your roots, your voice, your truth… This conversation is for you. - KEYNOTES -  Growing up between cultures and feeling like an outsider The belief that art cannot be a real career Discovering music and voice as a spiritual path Returning to ancestral roots and Balinese culture A spiritual awakening through nature and travel Understanding the meaning behind Balinese offerings Devotion as the heart of Balinese life Music and sound as portals for healing The wound of not belonging and the search for tribe Finding community through sacred gatherings Healing the relationship with one's homeland Nature and mountains as living elders Gratitude for both spiritual and material abundance The danger of competition in spiritual spaces Spirituality as contribution rather than competition The impact of colonialism on cultures and traditions Protecting the sacred traditions of Bali Recognizing the wisdom of indigenous cultures Living in harmony with the seen and unseen worlds The responsibility to give back to sacred lands Remembering that humanity is one family   ABOUT Purnama Purnama Melissa is a singer, songwriter, and sound healer, as well as a ceremonialist, yoga and philosophy teacher, and keeper of indigenous wisdom. 6. Embodied Sensuality with Meher Malik | Ep 35

    Feb 14

Embodied Sensuality with Meher Malik | Ep 35

Sexuality is not pleasure chasing. It is alchemy. In this deeply intimate and expansive conversation, I sit with Meher Malik, a mover, mentor, mother, embodiment coach, and graduate in Buddhist Studies, to explore Embodied Sensuality as a lived spiritual path, one that moves through motherhood, lineage, sexuality, emotion, and values… We speak about what happens when women are severed from their senses, from feeling, from intuition, and how that quiet disconnection shapes the way we love, relate, choose, and inhabit our lives. How sensuality becomes externalized. How intimacy becomes performative. How longing replaces truth. Embodied Sensuality begins not in sex, but in sensation, in the hips, the breath, and the capacity to stay with what we feel without leaving the body. Meher shares how raising a daughter has become a profound spiritual initiation, a daily mirror of consent, presence, and emotional truth. We reflect on children as embodied teachers, on parenting as a way of re-parenting the self, restoring what was never modeled, and on what it means to raise girls who know their bodies belong to them. This episode moves gently through sexuality as alchemy rather than gratification. As a force that reveals shadow, vulnerability, values, and inner responsibility. We speak openly about why so much sacred sexuality work skips the essential groundwork, the emotional, somatic, and philosophical foundations that allow intimacy to become conscious rather than compulsive. Embodied Sensuality, as it lives here, is not about being more expressive, desirable, or powerful. It is about slowing down enough to feel without self-betrayal. About letting the body set the pace. About allowing intimacy and spirituality to grow from a ground that can actually hold them. If your body is tired of being pushed. If your desire wants honesty instead of performance. If something in you knows there is another way to inhabit sensuality, motherhood, and spirit. Come listen. ______________________________KEYNOTES: Motherhood as a spiritual initiation and mirror of embodiment Children as Embodied Teachers Lineage Healing Through Parenting Embodied Sensuality Sexuality as Alchemy Disconnection from the senses as the root of women’s disempowerment Intuition as bodily wisdom Groundwork before sacred sexuality, trauma, emotion, and belief systems Sex inseparable from emotion, consciousness, and existence Neo-tantric bypassing without dharma and values Women’s spiritual paths differ from masculine models Absence of women’s embodied voices in sacred traditions Values as the ground beneath beliefs and relating Modern intimacy patterns rooted in lack of emotional language Slowing down as the essence of discernment and spiritual maturity Embodiment as remembrance, not performance Juiciness as aliveness, presence, and inner fullness ______________________________ ABOUT Meher Malik Meher Malik is a mover, a mentor and a mother. Embodied Awakening and Long-term Integration with Tanya Kaps | Ep 34

We are opening this year with a conversation that was recorded earlier, yet arrives with precise timing. Some teachings are not meant for the moment they are spoken. They wait. They ripen. And they meet us when we are ready to receive them. Sitting beneath the Banyan tree in Bali, and I'm very happy and I have some butterflies in my heart, excited to introduce my dear sister, Tanya Kaps, a person that I met a long time ago.. Tanya and I return to the roots of our spiritual lives. To lineage. To recognition that happens before language. To the body knowing yes before the mind understands why. This conversation carries the energy of beginnings, not the kind that push us forward, but the kind that draw us inward. Tanya brings a depth shaped by decades of practice and inquiry. With over 25 years devoted to yoga, Vedanta, and self inquiry, and a background in Integrated Science and Transpersonal Psychology, her presence bridges lived wisdom and grounded understanding. Years of close study with our same Vedanta teacher, Swami Vagishananda, along with her own experience of kundalini awakening and long integration, inform the way she meets students, without urgency, without bypassing, and with deep respect for the human pace of unfolding. Vedanta shows up here not as theory, but as something lived. Not an idea to understand, but a clarity that continues to unfold through relationships, the body, and everyday life. Seeking softens, yet life does not disappear. If anything, it asks to be met more fully. The conversation opens into the often misunderstood terrain of kundalini awakening and spiritual emergency. Awakenings that arrive without preparation. Experiences labeled as psychosis. Moments of insight that come before the nervous system has the capacity to hold them. Integration is not treated as a phase, but as an ongoing process that unfolds over years. Again and again, we return to embodiment. To the understanding that transcendence without embodiment can leave parts of us untouched. That spiritual bypassing, even when subtle, delays healing. That realization matures when we are willing to meet emotion, fatigue, relationship, and ordinary life as sacred ground. Birth, parenting, exhaustion, tantrums, love, and service reveal Vedanta through flesh and blood. The child as pure prakriti. The body as teacher. Judgment, rather than identity, quietly shaping suffering. What remains is a grounded reflection on paradox. Being both divine and deeply human. Structure and flow. Ha and Tha. Masculine and feminine principles as partners rather than opposites, and the wider return of feminine wisdom in yoga and spirituality, honoring cycles, birth, menopause, trauma informed embodiment, and relational depth that were long left unspoken. Long term immersion supports integration in ways peak experiences cannot. And underneath it all, a quiet reassurance. That nothing on the path was wrong. That every stage served the unfolding. That all is well, has always been well, and will always be well. If your heart has ever known truth before language, if your awakening asked you to come back into life rather than leave it, this conversation is for you. KEYNOTES: Returning to Under the Banyan Tree as a place of lineage and remembrance Sacred recognition and the meeting of a true teacher Vedanta as lived experience, not philosophy Kundalini awakening and spiritual emergency The need for context, nervous system capacity, and embodiment Transcendence without embodiment leading to spiritual bypassing Spiritual bypassing and its shadows Motherhood as embodied non dual initiation The child as pure prakriti and spiritual teacher Judgment as the true source of suffering, not identity Roles, fluidity, and dharma in daily life Ha and Tha, structure and flow as nervous system wisdom The feminine return in yoga and spirituality Paradox as the living heart of realization Long term immersion vs peak experiences Teaching as devotion and mutual unfolding Kundalini Tantra as demystification Spiritual sovereignty lived in ordinary life Trust in the intelligence of the unfolding ABOUT Tanya Kaps: Tanya Kaps has dedicated her life to the path of Yoga and Self inquiry. Pleasure as Prayer: Embracing Fear & Sacred Sexuality in the Navarātri Online Festival with Sharada Devi | Ep 33

Pleasure as Prayer. These words have been moving through my heart as the living theme for this year’s Navarātri Online Festival. The choice is not accidental. For many of us, prayer has been tied to duty, to fear, to heaviness. And pleasure has often been hidden in the shadows, wrapped in shame or secrecy. Yet what if both prayer and pleasure were never meant to be separate. In this new episode of Born to Be Free, I place myself in the seat of the guest, while my dear sister and longtime student, Amanda Devi, steps in as hostess. Amanda’s own journey began years ago when she first joined Navarātri, a doorway that opened her into the teachings of devotion and sacred sexuality, into women’s circles, priestess initiations, and into her own path as a therapist and guide. So it feels deeply precious that she is the one guiding this conversation. Together we enter a very human and sacred inquiry: fear, prayer, and pleasure. Fear is something we all know. The fear of not being enough. The fear of judgment. The fear of being misunderstood. My own teacher once gave me a mantra that changed everything: “Oh fear, I welcome you, you are my best friend.” Over time I learned to walk with fear instead of fighting it. To breathe it in, to give it space, to let it soften me. When I could do that, fear itself became a kind of prayer… a doorway into freedom. And then there is pleasure. Not the kind clouded by shame or pressure, but the simple pleasure of being alive. The breath moving through the body. The warmth of touch. The joy of intimacy with life itself. When held in reverence, pleasure too becomes prayer — a way of offering our humanity back to the Goddess. From September 22 to October 1, our Free Navarātri Online Festival will gather seekers from across the world. This year is especially precious because instead of inviting dozens of outside teachers, we will be guided by the very faculty of The Muse, The Golden Womb. What you will taste in Navarātri is a glimpse into the deeper Muse journey — a weaving of trauma-informed healing, sacred sexuality, and embodied devotion, offered in the spirit of the Goddess. If you have ever carried fear in your body, if you have longed to feel your devotion alive in every breath, these nine nights are for you. Come as you are. Bring your fear, bring your longing, bring your joy. Together we will remember. Together we will pray. Together we will celebrate that pleasure too belongs to the sacred.   ____ KEYNOTES -Amanda’s journey as longtime student & priestess began when she first joined the Navarātri Festival -Welcoming Fear as a Teacher -Self-Knowledge as the Solution to Fear -Tools for Emotional Healing -Use of breath, sound, movement, and touch to process and release emotions -Navarātrī theme of the year is "Pleasure as Prayer” -Invitation for all to join The Navarātrī Free Online Festival -Celebration of the Goddess -The festival and programs are for anyone seeking meaning, self-acceptance, harmony, and true happiness -The Muse, The Golden Womb Program: a 13-month journey focusing on embodiment, sacred sexuality, and self-healing. -The program is structured in trimesters: personal healing, learning to coach others, and understanding relationships. -Ritualizing Life and Reclaiming Power -Universal Values   ____   ABOUT Amanda Roth Amanda Roth is a 500-hour certified yoga teacher, yoga massage therapist, and ACT/CBT therapist who weaves together somatic awareness, breathwork, Advaita Vedānta, and poetic movement to guide others home to themselves.
