Ten Commandments: 7. Sexuality is Sacred (Exodus 20:14)

The seventh commandment - "You shall not commit adultery" - is about the sacredness of human sexuality. The Bible talks about sexuality throughout, so it is an important subject for God. God is not a prude. (Read the Song of Solomon.) He is the designer of sexuality and designed it profoundly good for sacred purposes, such as creating life and building families and societies. Jesus said even a lustful stare breaks this commandment. We have all broken this commandment. Thankfully, Jesus Christ is our salvation. 2 Peter in a Nutshell (New Testament in a Nutshell)

The Second Epistle of Peter is the Apostle Peter's final exhortation. He expects to die soon. False teachers were spreading misinformation, and there were doubts about Jesus returning. He encourages them to continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. He tells them to beware of false teachers. He assures them that Jesus will return in good time.2 Peter in a nutshell. October 25, 2026 PM sermon at North Blendon Christian Reformed Church This is a public episode. Ten Commandments: 6. Life is Sacred (Exodus 20:13)

The sixth commandment - "You shall not murder" - is based on the biblical concept that human life is sacred. Being made in God's image gives human life inherent value. Jesus said even being angry with someone is the moral equivalent to murder and James said you cannot praise God and then curse someone made in God's likeness. In other words, all of us are guilty of devaluing human life. Thankfully, Jesus Christ is our salvation. He is God assuming human life. He died and rose again to make human life last forever. Because Christians love God, they love what he loves. They will do what they can to preserve human life, even the lives of strangers. Ten Commandments: 5. Respect Authorities (Exodus 20:12)

The fifth commandment - "Honor your father and your mother" - is actually about respecting all authorities. This is difficult to follow in a time when authority is not trusted and obedience is taught less. Yet, like it or not, the Bible is unequivocal on teaching respect for authority. Even Jesus was obedient to his parents and suffered under Pontius Pilate. October 18, 2026 AM at North Blendon Christian Reformed Church This is a public episode. James in a Nutshell (New Testament in a Nutshell)

The book of James is the most direct and straightforward of the New Testament. It is about taking action. Christians must live out their faith. Don't just say it. Do it. Don't just believe it. Live it.The epistle of James in a nutshell. October 11, 2026 PM sermon at North Blendon Christian Reformed Church This is a public episode. Ten Commandments: 4. Time for God (Exodus 20:8-11)

The fourth commandment is the most difficult of the commandments because of what the New Testament says. Other commandments are quite consistent in the New Testament. Other gods, murder and adultery, for example, are all consistently condemned throughout the Bible. Keeping the Sabbath is strictly enforced under the old covenant. The new covenant treats the Sabbath as a matter of conscience. The underlying principle throughout Scripture seems to be prioritizing time for God. Hebrews in a Nutshell (New Testament in a Nutshell)

Hebrews was from an unknown writer to an unidentified group of believers, but it is masterfully written. It is a vast argument that Jesus fulfilled what was in the Old Testament. Constantly quoting and alluding to the ancient Scriptures, the book of Hebrews argues that Jesus Christ is the definitive revelation of God, the sacrifice to end all sacrifices, and the great high priest who enters the true tabernacle in heaven. He is worth all our faith as well as the resulting suffering and service. The epistle to the Hebrews in a nutshell. Ten Commandments: 3. Respect the Name (Exodus 20:7)

The Third Commandment is about how we carry God's name and reputation. Christians carry the name and reputation of Christ. Therefore, our attitudes and actions will either reflect well on our Savior or bring disgrace to him. September 27, 2026 AM at North Blendon Christian Reformed Church This is a public episode.
