    S3 Ep21: Halloween, Gen-X Style!

Join us on our Patreon for the FULL episode, exclusive content, member giveaways and more! Remember when Halloween meant a crappy plastic mask that fogged up after three minutes, a costume made from the cheapest synthetic material known to mankind, and a pillowcase you hoped to fill with enough candy to survive until Thanksgiving? Welcome to Halloween, Gen X style! This week, we're firing up the nostalgia machine and heading back to a time when parents sent us out into the night with minimal supervision, questionable costumes, and absolutely no concern that we might be wandering around dressed like a melted superhero. We'll revisit the costumes, the candy, the neighborhood traditions, and all the gloriously sketchy things that made Halloween awesome when we were kids. And because we're grown-ass adults now, we've upgraded from begging strangers for candy to enjoying some seriously good stuff: Evan Williams 12-Year-Old Bourbon, that elusive bottle generally found in Japan or at the distillery, and the Eagle Rare Limited Edition cigar. So grab your favorite dram, light up a cigar, and join the Nerdherfers as we remember Halloween before participation trophies, allergy warnings on every candy wrapper, and parents tracking their kids with GPS. Back then, the only thing scarier than Halloween was accidentally trading away your Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Happy Halloween, you magnificent nerds!

S3 Ep20: In Brightest Day, In Drunkest Night: Breaking Down "Lanterns"

Want to hear the full episode, get exclusive member benefits and more? Join use on Patreon! This week, the Nerdherfers are heading to the far reaches of the DC Universe for Lanterns on HBO Max. We're talking Green Lanterns, cosmic weirdness, DC lore, and whether this new series will shine like a power ring or leave us feeling like we got stranded on Oa without a battery. All that intergalactic speculation pairs nicely with a Romeo & Julieta #2 Habano cigar and a dram—or three—of Cadenhead’s Spirit of Yorkshire blended Scotch. Because investigating the mysteries of the universe is thirsty work, and somebody has to keep the ring-bearers honest.

S3 Ep19: We Think We May Know What We Did This Summer

Join us on Patreon for FULL episodes, members-only content, giveaways and more! Summer’s over, the Nerdherfers are back, and apparently we have some explaining to do. This week, there’s no elaborate topic, no deep dive into nerd culture, and absolutely no expectation that the conversation stays on the rails. We’re just catching up on what we’ve been doing all summer — the trips, the movies, the shows, the random crap we’ve been into, and whatever other nonsense has happened since we last checked in. Along the way, we’re enjoying the Jameson Distillery Edition and smoking the Montecristo Cuban Edmundo while doing what we do best: shooting the sh!t, telling stories, and inevitably wandering into topics we never intended to discuss. So grab a drink, light up a cigar, and come hang out with us for a little summer recap…because apparently we needed an entire podcast episode just to remember what the hell we’ve been doing.

    S3 Ep18: Sci-Fi Parodies

Join us on Patreon for FULL episodes, members-only content, giveaways and more! This week, we're boldly going where Hollywood has gone far too many times before—into the wonderful, weird, and occasionally terrifying world of sci-fi parodies and remakes. Because apparently, if you make a great science-fiction movie or TV show, Hollywood's first question isn't, “How do we make another great one?” It's, “How can we remake this in 20 years and piss off everybody who loved the original?” We're talking about the classics that got the parody treatment, the remakes that actually worked, the ones that absolutely should have been left in the Phantom Zone, and the timeless question: Why the hell do studios keep messing with things we already liked? We'll be wandering through everything from Star Trek to Star Wars and whatever other beloved piece of our childhood Hollywood decided needed a “fresh take.” And because no Nerdherfers discussion is complete without something good in the glass and something burning in the ashtray, we're enjoying New Riff Kentucky Straight Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon alongside the Definition Kinsman cigar.

S3 Ep16: The Internet - It was better when it sucked

Join us on Patreon for the full version of this episode and more member-only benefits! Well... this episode went off the rails. We were supposed to be talking about the early days of the internet—the glorious age of dial-up, GeoCities, chat rooms, Napster, and waiting three f***ing minutes for a JPEG to download. And we do talk about that. For a little while. Then things take a turn. Because somewhere between “Remember when the internet was fun?” and “Hey, look at this ancient website,” we started asking the important questions: When did the internet become the worst place on Earth? Why did we give social media the keys to civilization? And is the modern internet actually making everybody dumber? Spoiler alert: we have theories. We're talking algorithms, outrage, misinformation, doom-scrolling, people arguing with complete strangers, and the possibility that humanity collectively invented the greatest communication technology in history... ...and immediately used it to yell at each other about politics, movies, and whether a hot dog is a sandwich. Meanwhile, we're enjoying a pour of High West Double Rye and smoking the Principle Accomplice, because if we're going to diagnose the collapse of civilization, we're damn sure going to do it with good whiskey and a cigar. So grab a drink, light one up, and join us as we travel from “You've Got Mail” to “What the hell happened to everybody?” The early internet was supposed to connect us. Instead, it gave everyone a microphone. Save us.

    S3 Ep17: RE-RELEASE - Tim Curry

We are deeply saddened at the passing of one of the all-time greats and are re-releasing this episode in his honor. Rest in peace, Tim. This week, we’re throwing on our fishnets, firing up the Davidoff Gran Escurio Gran Perfecto, and pouring a generous glass of Blanton’s Single Barrel—because if we’re going to talk about the legend that is Tim Freakin’ Curry, we’re doing it with style, swagger, and just a touch of sinister laughter. From the sweet transvestite in Rocky Horror to the suave villainy of Clue, Legend, and Muppet Treasure Island (yes, Long John Silver had range), we’re deep-diving into the velvet-voiced chaos that is Tim Curry’s filmography. Whether he’s seducing the screen or hamming it up to high heaven, the man never misses—and neither does this cigar. Expect impressions, trivia, wild theories (was Pennywise just Frank-N-Furter on an off day?), and a whole lot off fanboying—yes, even with a glass of bourbon in hand, we’re completely unhinged for this icon. So spark that Gran Perfecto, sip that smooth Blanton’s, and join us for a gloriously over-the-top tribute to the man who made villainy irresistible and camp cooler than cool.

S3 Ep15: The 70's - The Decade That Changed Music

Join us on Patreon for full, uncut episodes and more! The ’70s were one hell of a decade for music. Rock got heavier, disco took over the dance floor, punk told everyone to piss off, funk got funky, prog rock got gloriously weird, and glam rock blurred the lines of gender and identity. Somewhere in the middle of all that came singer-songwriters, yacht rock, country, soul, R&B, metal, and a ridiculous number of songs that are still burned into our brains more than 50 years later. This week, we're cranking up the time machine and taking a trip through the music of the 1970s—talking about the genres, the experimentation, the fashion, the gender-bending performers, the musical excess, and the timeless classics that came out of a decade when apparently nobody told musicians there were supposed to be rules. And, of course, we're doing it the proper way: with a glass of Penelope Straight Bourbon and an Atabey Black Ritos cigar. So dust off the vinyl, put on your bell bottoms, turn the stereo up to eleven, and join us for a very loud trip through one of the most influential—and arguably greatest—eras in music history.

S3 Ep14: So Say We All - Battlestar Galactica

Join us on Patreon for FULL episodes, bonus content and other members-only perks! This week, we’re heading back into the black and firing up the FTL drive for a little Battlestar Galactica showdown. That’s right—we’re putting the 1978 original up against the 2003 reimagining and asking the question that has divided nerds for decades: Which one actually did it better? We’re talking Cylons, Colonial Warriors, Starbuck, Apollo, Adama, spaceships, storylines, endings, and why one version gave us shiny chrome robots while the other gave us existential dread, political intrigue, and enough trauma to make a Cylon need therapy. And because this is the Nerdherfers, we’re not stopping at the obvious stuff. We’re digging into the Star Wars connection, ILM's groundbreaking effects work, the infamous lawsuit, and how a TV show inspired by the biggest sci-fi movie of its time eventually became a completely different beast. Fueling this trip through the Twelve Colonies is the Hooten Young 2020 cigar, paired with Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel—because nothing says “humanity's survival is at stake” quite like a good cigar and a glass of bourbon.
