    S3 Ep16: The Internet - It was better when it sucked

    Join us on Patreon for the full version of this episode and more member-only benefits! Well... this episode went off the rails. We were supposed to be talking about the early days of the internet—the glorious age of dial-up, GeoCities, chat rooms, Napster, and waiting three f***ing minutes for a JPEG to download. And we do talk about that. For a little while. Then things take a turn. Because somewhere between “Remember when the internet was fun?” and “Hey, look at this ancient website,” we started asking the important questions: When did the internet become the worst place on Earth? Why did we give social media the keys to civilization? And is the modern internet actually making everybody dumber? Spoiler alert: we have theories. We're talking algorithms, outrage, misinformation, doom-scrolling, people arguing with complete strangers, and the possibility that humanity collectively invented the greatest communication technology in history... ...and immediately used it to yell at each other about politics, movies, and whether a hot dog is a sandwich. Meanwhile, we're enjoying a pour of High West Double Rye and smoking the Principle Accomplice, because if we're going to diagnose the collapse of civilization, we're damn sure going to do it with good whiskey and a cigar. So grab a drink, light one up, and join us as we travel from “You've Got Mail” to “What the hell happened to everybody?” The early internet was supposed to connect us. Instead, it gave everyone a microphone. Save us.

    S3 Ep15: The 70's - The Decade That Changed Music

Rock got heavier, disco took over the dance floor, punk told everyone to piss off, funk got funky, prog rock got gloriously weird, and glam rock blurred the lines of gender and identity. Somewhere in the middle of all that came singer-songwriters, yacht rock, country, soul, R&B, metal, and a ridiculous number of songs that are still burned into our brains more than 50 years later. This week, we're cranking up the time machine and taking a trip through the music of the 1970s—talking about the genres, the experimentation, the fashion, the gender-bending performers, the musical excess, and the timeless classics that came out of a decade when apparently nobody told musicians there were supposed to be rules.     Well, we talked so long we had to split it into two shows. Go figure. Anyway, this episode continues our rambles, rumination and redoubts. The first bottle is done, the first sticks are long since out, and we're on to sharing a nice Dalmore 14 Single Malt Scotch and various cigars of our choosing. We continue discussing favorite shows and movies, shows and movies anticipated, and even dabble in some "state of society" ramblings (and of course offer solutions)...you know...as you do when the liquor runs freely. Stories abound and discussions ensue. It was a good time had by all until it was time to go home.

We'll probably discuss a few nerdy things, a few non-nerdy things, and at least one topic that starts out completely normal before taking a hard left turn into territory no one saw coming. As usual.
