    How to Get Started in Real Estate Investing: The Rent-by-the-Room Strategy With Ryan Chaw

    Welcome to the Financial Freedom & Wealth Trailblazers Podcast! In today’s episode, we're talking about how to get started with real estate investing using the rent-by-the-room strategy.  Ryan Chaw’s grandpa faced discrimination in the 1950s while trying to buy his first property, but he and his grandma persevered. He eventually purchased three rentals in the SF Bay Area, using the income to help pay for Ryan and his brother’s college tuition, a gift Ryan never took for granted. His example inspired Ryan to build a legacy of his own. Ryan graduated as a pharmacist in 2016 and worked in infectious diseases and pediatrics. The skills he gained in healthcare translated well into real estate, especially in managing people and creating quality living spaces. Ryan began buying one single-family home per year and built a reputation for high-quality student housing near his local college. By renting the room, he doubled cash flow compared to traditional rentals. By age 28, Ryan became a millionaire, earning multiple six figures in student rental income. Today, Ryan leads a community of creative real estate investors who focus on one great deal at a time while providing affordable, high-quality student housing. In his free time, Ryan loves traveling to absorb global culture, with highlights including Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, Belize, and Europe. Cullen Wallace is a real estate broker for his day job. After going through a major health scare a few years ago, he started searching for purpose and meaning in his life. He started posting things that he had read on his social media accounts. These eventually led him to post his own thoughts about life and the world we live in. He called his daily posting, “Today’s Thought Worth Thinking About....” He tries to always be inspiring and motivational, and he frames his thoughts as we and us versus me and you. He believes one of the great paradoxes of life is that we are all unique and yet we are also all the same. After much encouragement, Cullen has compiled his daily thoughts into what will become a book. In the course of working on a book, he has been encouraged to start a holistic coaching practice.
