Welcome back to The Better Everyday Podcast where we are unlocking our best self one episode at a time. What does healthy ministry actually look like? Who should be serving in church ministry? Is every season of life meant for the same level of involvement? Can someone honor God by prioritizing their marriage, children, and family before serving in church? What does biblical stewardship really look like? In this episode, David and Grace have one of their most thought-provoking conversations yet as they dive into ministry, leadership, discipleship, family, and the responsibility of stewarding the gifts God has entrusted to us. Together, we discuss: • Who should enter into church ministry—and when they're ready. • What ministry looks like for singles, married couples, and parents. • Why stewardship of your marriage, children, time, and resources matters just as much as serving inside the church. • Whether ministry should ever come at the expense of your family. • Why communication and leadership at home are essential for anyone serving God. • The importance of older, wiser believers mentoring the next generation instead of simply platforming talent. • Why many young Christians have incredible passion and ambition—but also need discipleship and guidance to avoid unnecessary mistakes. • The growing trend in many churches of putting younger and younger people into positions of influence without adequate mentorship. • How churches can unintentionally prioritize gifting, charisma, and church growth over spiritual formation and genuine care for people. David also shares his personal experience growing up in the Hispanic Pentecostal church, where serving in church was often viewed as the primary way to use your God-given gifts. He explains why he now believes that family is also a ministry and why investing in your spouse and children is not stepping away from ministry—but faithfully living it out. One of the most compelling parts of the conversation centers around Jesus Himself. For nearly 30 years of His life, Scripture records very little public ministry. In today's church culture, would some people say Jesus was "wasting His gifts" because He wasn't constantly serving on a platform? What can we learn from the hidden years of Christ's life? We also explore why churches often celebrate the people leading ministries, preaching, singing, or bringing in new visitors, while rarely celebrating the faithful father, the devoted mother, the healthy marriage, or the person quietly becoming more like Christ. Should our definition of success in ministry be measured by influence—or by faithfulness? This episode isn't about claiming we have all the answers. It's about asking better questions, thinking biblically, challenging assumptions, and encouraging healthy conversations about what ministry should look like in every season of life. Whether you agree with us, disagree with us, or land somewhere in the middle, our hope is that this conversation encourages you to think deeply, seek God sincerely, and continue growing in your own walk with Christ.
