Ep 16. Crafting Success: How Veritas Proves Manufacturing Thrives in North America

Welcome to the "Cutting Time CNC Podcast," your go-to show for precision, efficiency, and innovation in CNC manufacturing. For episode 16 of the Cutting Time CNC Industry Podcast, we are joined by Rob Gauci of Veritas Tools Inc. to discuss how manufacturing thrives in North America. Meet Rob Gauci: In 1985, Rob Gauci both graduated Algonquin College as an Industrial Engineering Technologist and completed his General Machinist apprenticeship at H. Rose Machining Ltd., where he had been employed since the summer of 1981. In 1986, Rob Gauci spearheaded the introduction of CNC manufacturing. Early on they were employing techniques like Offline tool presetting. Customers often brought challenges that benefited Rob Gauci in furthering his understanding of materials, work holding and metrology. Participation in the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, as well as attendance at Machine Tool Shows were critical to development, as they didn't have the internet as a medium, yet.  The opportunity to work for six years with Sandvik Coromant as a Technical Sales Representative, allowed him to learn even more about the technical aspects of metal cutting, and what challenges companies face in manufacturing. The roles of both skilled trades and automation in furthering this sector are key, in Rob Gauci's observations Rob Gauci's current role is Manufacturing Manager at Veritas Tools Inc. They design and manufacture a variety of innovative hand tools for woodworkers, marketed by the parent company, Lee Valley Tools. In this flexible and multi-faceted role, Rob Gauci participates in many aspects of product development and optimization – tool design, programming, machine tool selection, process research, Plant Layout and more.  Rob Gauci is privileged to have managed both of Veritas's machine shops (at different times of course). With all these experiences and armed with honours in Project Management from Algonquin, he recognizes that one needs to continually strive to run a shop like Victorinox makes Swiss knives: prepared, smart and masterful! Innovation, hard work and honesty are Rob Gauci's hallmarks.  He has a natural curiosity for 'what could be', as well as a desire to understand and improve 'what is'.  For Rob Gauci, every day is an opportunity to work alongside others, improve and develop.
