The 4 Books That Rebuilt My Mind (And Why One Surprised Me Most)

After 23 years in the British Army, reaching the highest rank a soldier can achieve, I pivoted into entrepreneurship. In this episode, I share the four books that didn't just inspire me, they rebuilt how I think, how I lead, and how I show up for my family and my business. One of them stopped me drinking for good. One came from an unlikely source and caught me completely off guard. All four changed the way I operate as a husband, a father, and an entrepreneur. If you're a high-performing man building a business, leading a team, or just trying to get a grip on your own mindset, this episode will give you four tools worth putting into practice, not just reading about. Follow Beyond Bathroom Blues so you don't miss future episodes, and let us know in the comments which of these books you've read. S3E125. Cancer Is Rising in Younger Men: Why I'm Getting Screened at 49

Cancer is on the rise in younger men, including prostate cancer and bowel cancer, and it's even affecting fit men who don't smoke and have no family history. I'm 49, so this one's personal. I explain why I'm booking a health screening before 50, and why the warning signs I found in 2024 mean I'll never ignore my gut again. In this episode: Why prostate and bowel cancer are becoming more common in men under 50The research-backed risk factors worth checking in your own life: alcohol, carrying extra weight around your middle, sitting all day, ultra-processed and sugary foods, and a high intake of red and processed meatMy story: the dark, tarry stools and blood that sent me to the doctor in 2024The two-second life check every man should do after going to the toiletA mate from my Army days who ignored the warning signs, and why getting checked beats pride every timeWhy tracking your symptoms in an IBS journal leads to a better diagnosisHow to walk into your GP or doctor's appointment prepared, so you get the best outcome possibleKey takeaway: dark red or black, tar-like stool can be a sign of bleeding higher up the gut and should always be checked by a doctor. Bright red blood is often piles, but any bleeding is worth getting looked at. You're not wasting anyone's time. Whether you've been diagnosed with IBS, you're living with gut symptoms you haven't had checked, or you're a man approaching 50, this episode is your nudge to take control of your health. Look after your body. It's the only place you have to live. S3E122. IBS Isn't Fake — CJ Destroys The 'B******t Diagnosis' Myth

Have you ever said or heard:  "IBS is a b******t diagnosis." "It's just a label." "If tests are normal, nothing's wrong." CJ has heard it all — and in this episode, she takes it apart piece by piece. She breaks down the real science behind IBS: why it's classified as a disorder of gut-brain interaction, why normal test results don't mean nothing's wrong, and why every major gastroenterology body on the planet — from the UK's NICE to the American College of Gastroenterology — recognises it as a genuine, research-backed condition. She also covers something rarely talked about: post-infectious IBS, and why so many soldiers develop it after a bad case of D&V on ops or exercise. If you've ever doubted your own diagnosis because of something you saw online, this episode is the one to send yourself back to. S3E121. We Hit 4K Because Men Are Done Hiding Their IBS

4,496 subscribers. This episode is not about us. It never was. It's about every man who typed something into a search bar he'd never said out loud. Every man who found this channel and felt — for the first time — like someone actually understood what he was going through. In this episode I cover: ✅ Why 4,000 subscribers in this niche means more than the number suggests ✅ Why AI is a powerful tool for men with IBS — and where it falls dangerously short without proper clinical guidance ✅ Why CJ's credentials and clinical experience matter more than ever in a world full of convincing sounding online advice ✅ A few honest words about what we do, how we work, and why genuine expertise costs what it costs This community is growing because the right men are finding it. Men who are done suffering in silence and ready to do something about it. S3E120. The Dangerous Truth About Fake Online IBS "Experts"

There are thousands of people online right now calling themselves IBS experts, gut health coaches, and digestive wellness specialists. Most of them have no business doing so. And men with IBS are paying the price — financially, physically, and mentally — by trusting people who aren't qualified to help them. I spent 23 years in the British Army and reached the rank of Warrant Officer Class 1 — Regimental Sergeant Major. I managed IBS throughout most of that career.  And I know what it means to make decisions based on bad intelligence. This is bad intelligence. And it's making men sicker. In this clip taken directly from our recent live broadcast I expose exactly what's happening in the online gut health space — the red flags to watch for, the questions you need to ask before trusting anyone with your health, and why the rise of AI is making fake experts more convincing and more dangerous than ever. Because in the UK alone there are an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 unregulated health coaches. In the US — over 128,000. No qualifications required. No registration required. Anyone can call themselves an expert tomorrow morning. You deserve better than that. How to protect yourself: ✅ In the UK — check the HCPC register at hcpc-uk.org. If they're not on it they are not a Registered Dietitian. ✅ In the US — verify RD or RDN credentials at eatright.org ✅ In Canada — check for PDt registration nationally If they can't give you a registration number — walk away. 🎥 Prefer to watch this on video: 👉 Video version.  🎥 Watch the full live broadcast here — including how I managed severe IBS as an RSM leading 600 men and our deep dive into IBS versus bowel cancer red flags: 👉 Live Broadcast-Full Video. S3E119. Is It IBS Or Bowel Cancer? Red Flags Every Man Must Know

When your gut is playing up every single day — unpredictable, painful, relentless — your mind goes to dark places. Is it IBS? Or is it something worse? That question keeps men awake at night. And most of them never ask it out loud. They sit with it. Google it at midnight. Hope for the best and say nothing. This podcast is for those men. In this 10-minute clip taken directly from our recent live broadcast, I cut straight to the facts. No scaremongering. No waffle. Just the clinical red flags that mean you need to see a doctor immediately, and how to tell the difference between standard IBS symptoms and something that needs urgent investigation. Because nearly 1 in 5 bowel cancer patients were initially told they had IBS. And a four month delay in diagnosis can cost you 20% of your ten year survival odds. That's not scaremongering. That's evidence. And you deserve to know it. 🎥 Watch this episode on video instead: 👉Video Episode  🎥 Watch the full live broadcast here — including how I managed severe IBS as an RSM leading 600 men, and our reality check on fake gut health experts: 👉Live Video About your host: Glenn Cooke-Winchurch — Former British Army WO1/RSM. 23 years service.
