And not every deep-house journey needs to follow a familiar route. Welcome to AFTER DARK. This is where I take things a little further underground. No commercial expectations. No chasing what's trending. No predetermined tracklist. Just me, the music, and whatever feels right in that moment. I've always believed there's more to deep house than the records everybody knows. Beyond the obvious selections, there's an entire world of producers, remixes, forgotten gems and sounds that deserve a little more attention. That's the space I want to explore with this series. THE FIRST SESSION For this opening edition, I found myself drawn towards the musical worlds of Jimpster, Atjazz and Fred Everything. Three artists whose contributions to deep house speak for themselves. But this isn't a greatest-hits compilation or some carefully calculated tribute. It's an exploration of their sounds, their collaborations, their interpretations of other artists' work, and the musical connections that emerge along the way. We open with Sébastien Tellier's La Ritournelle (Sven Løve & Catalan FC Remix). Not your conventional underground deep-house opener. And that's precisely the point. From there, the journey moves through Seal, Martin Iveson, St Germain, Suges, Yukihiro Fukutomi, Karol XVII & MB Valence, Dominique Fils-Aimé, Franck Roger, Rona Ray and more. Different eras. Different influences. Different expressions of the same culture. Some records are soulful. Some are jazzy. Some are stripped back, dubby and hypnotic. Others simply have that unmistakable groove that makes you stop whatever you're doing and listen. And somewhere in between, the music finds its own direction. NO SCRIPT. JUST THE RECORDS. Here's the thing about how I play. I don't plan my track lists. I never have. I might have an idea of the sound I want to explore, but once the recording starts, I follow what I'm hearing. One record suggests another. A bassline reminds me of something sitting in the collection. A particular groove opens the door to a completely different direction. Sometimes the connection makes perfect sense. Sometimes it catches even me by surprise. And that's the beauty of it. Looking back at this recording, I find it interesting how the music of Jimpster, Atjazz and Fred Everything keeps crossing paths throughout the session. Even Martin Iveson's Thought B and Thought A find themselves separated across the journey. None of that came from sitting down and mapping out a perfect sequence. It happened because the records felt right. That's selecting. That's digging. That's trusting the music. WHAT AFTER DARK REPRESENTS Let's get one thing straight. After Dark isn't necessarily about playing dark music. It's about digging deeper. Exploring the underground side of house without worrying about whether a record is popular, recognizable or commercially appealing. It's about those late-night listening sessions when you discover something and immediately wonder how you've managed to miss it all these years. The overlooked remix. The obscure release. The producer whose work deserves more ears. The record that doesn't need a massive breakdown or a familiar vocal to make an impression. Just proper music. And I'm not pretending every record in this session is unknown. Some of the artists are familiar names. But familiarity doesn't automatically make a record commercial, and obscurity doesn't automatically make it good. What matters is the selection. The feeling. The groove. And whether the music has something to say. This is the beginning of a new series, and I have no intention of putting it inside a box. Some sessions will be rawer. Others more soulful, dubby, jazzy or hypnotic. The only constant will be the willingness to explore. If you came looking for the obvious, you might find yourself somewhere unexpected.
