Do You Work With Angels | A Witch & A Shaman

Text or VM the Show We start with a community question from Our Coven Community: do you work with angels? From there, we get honest about what “angel work” means when you come from a strict Christian or Catholic background, and why opting out can be just as healthy and powerful as opting in. We talk about the real crossover between witchcraft, shamanism, ceremonial magic, and folk traditions. Angels show up in structured practices with archangels and protective rituals, and they also show up in everyday spiritual life through prayer, candles, and signs that feel personal. We also dig into the messy part: labels. Is it an angel, an elemental, a spirit guide, a being of light? Sometimes the name matters less than the energy, the consent, and how supported you actually feel. Jenny C. Bell shares her journey from outright skepticism to direct angel connection, including studying A Course in Miracles and experiencing a powerful Archangel Michael attunement that felt physical and undeniable. Granddaughter Crow adds a shamanistic perspective on beings of light, plus a childhood story of protection that still reads like a guardian angel encounter. If you have ever wondered whether angels belong in a modern spiritual practice, or how to navigate that question with religious trauma in the mix, this conversation gives you a clear, compassionate way in. Listen now, then share your own angel stories with us, subscribe for more community Q and A, and leave a review so more people can find the show.  #AngelWork #WitchcraftAndSpirituality #SpiritualExploration  Thank you for supporting Belief, Being, & BEYOND! The Gender Doula | Eli Lawliet, Ph.D. author of Gender Rituals

Text or VM the Show We’re sitting down with Eli Lawliet, PhD, the creator of the gender doula, to offer a more grounded, human way into gender exploration: start with desire, values, and what actually feels good in your body, then build support around that.    We talk about why the gender doula model matters for anyone navigating gender transition, questioning, or identity change, and why this kind of full spectrum care can also help families, teachers, and professionals who want to show up with more skill and less fear. Eli also shares a personal path from evangelical Christianity through atheism and into a spirituality rooted in lived experience, with a clear-eyed look at cultural appropriation, colonialism, and what it means to find something that is truly yours.    From there, we get practical. We unpack ritual as something simple and usable: an action done for a specific purpose. That opens the door to energetic hygiene (cleansing, grounding, boundaries and protection) you can use before a difficult family gathering, after a day of bad headlines, or any time you’re feeling porous and depleted. We also explore tarot as a consent-based tool for guidance and deeper conversation, and we spend time on surgery rituals that make room for the real emotional landscape: doubt, relief, grief, numbness, joy, and post-surgical depression, without forcing a perfect narrative.    If you want concrete tools for authenticity, transition support, and ritual practice that meets you where you are, hit play. Subscribe, share this with someone who needs it, and leave a review so more listeners can find the show. Bio: Eli Lawliet, Ph.D. , (he/him) is the dreamer and weaver of The Gender Doula; a source of full-spectrum support for those who are transitioning, questioning, or exploring their gender, as well as for families, loved ones, and professionals who wish to better support gender expansive folks. Services are provided through 1:1 support, classes, workshops, events, written resources, and more. The Gender Doula focuses on offering a wide range of support so that he can meet you where you are at - whatever part of your journey you are in - with compassion, care, and robust resources. https://www.thegenderdoula.com/ https://www.instagram.com/thegenderdoula/ #GenderDoula #GenderExploration #RitualPractice Thank you for supporting Belief, Being, & BEYOND! What is Crystal Gridding | A Witch & A Shaman

Text or VM the Show You’ve heard people talk about “crystal grids,” but what does gridding actually mean, and how do you do it without turning it into a complicated craft project? We sit down with author Jenny C. Bell and Granddaughter Crow to answer a community question with real, usable steps that work whether you have a huge crystal collection or just a few stones you love. We break gridding down to its essentials: placing items in a shape with a clear intention, then activating that layout with your energy. Jenny explains how a grid can be made with crystals, backyard stones, charms, plants, or even flowers, and why sacred geometry is optional, not required. Granddaughter Crow expands the idea from altar work to full-space energy work, including a powerful story about creating a protective property grid inspired by a dream, then “walking” that boundary in the mind’s eye to keep it active. You’ll also hear beginner-friendly ways to start small, like building a tarot card grid to call in the energy you want more of, plus practical guidance on cleansing, recharging, and working with lunar timing such as the new moon and full moon. The biggest takeaway we want you to remember: don’t overcomplicate it. Play is not a bonus, it’s part of the magic. If you enjoy this kind of grounded spiritual practice, subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find us. What would you grid first: your desk, your bedroom, or your whole home?  #CrystalGrids #EnergyWork #SpiritualPractice  Thank you for supporting Belief, Being, & BEYOND! Ghosts are People Too | Richard-Lael Lillard, Judika Illes, Jake Morningstar

Text or VM the Show Ghosts are not just jump scares and cold spots. When we actually compare notes across witchcraft, occult practice, mediumship, and lived experience, the “paranormal” starts to look a lot more like a normal part of being human.    We sit down as a roundtable with Judika Illes, author of Encyclopedia of Spirits and The Weiser Field Guide to the Paranormal, plus Jake Morningstar, author of Tattoo Magic, Richard Lael, The Gentleman Psychic - psychic medium and occultist based in New Orleans, and co-host Jenny C. Bell. Together, we ask the real question behind every haunting: what are we actually encountering? We explore the idea that ghosts can be the souls of dead people, but also that they might be emotional imprints, thoughtforms, or egregores shaped by attention and belief. One line changes the whole frame: saints are ghosts too, because devotion keeps the presence of once-living people active in the world.    From there, the stories hit. We share a corroborated stairwell apparition, a silvery night visitor that brushes up against sleep paralysis and “hag attack” folklore, and a paranormal investigation moment that turns funny and unnerving at the same time. We also go deep on “time is an illusion,” including how a séance can touch energies from the living, the dead, or even a future self, depending on how you think time is “sliced.”    We end with what we wish more people understood: don’t yuck other people’s yum, don’t rush to explain away your own experience, and approach spirits with kindness and basic respect. If you enjoy thoughtful ghost stories, witchy philosophy, and grounded spiritual practice, hit play, subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review. How To Celebrate Fall Equinox | A Witch & A Shaman

Text or VM the Show The fall equinox can feel like a line in the calendar, but it is also experienced in your body and your lifestyle. We take a listener question from our community and explore what it actually means to celebrate the autumn equinox when your weather, your schedule, and even your landscape do not match the classic “crunchy leaves” picture.    From Granddaughter Crow’s shamanic perspective, we talk about equilibrium as something you can sense across the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies. That theme turns into practical ideas you can try immediately: step outside and notice the light, the temperature, and the earlier sunsets, then ask yourself what kind of balance fits this season. We also get delightfully nerdy about a folk practice you may have heard of: balancing an egg on the equinox as a tiny ritual for finding your center.    Jenny C. Bell brings the witchy, seasonal living lens, including how to work with the Wheel of the Year in places where fall still looks like summer. We talk warm foods and traditional Chinese medicine inspired shifts, journaling and card reading prompts for “where am I balanced” and “where am I off,” and the gentle power of letting old goals drop away like leaves. Plus, we end with a cozy tangent on fall playlists, from cool jazz to PJ Harvey’s White Chalk.    Subscribe, share this with a friend who loves seasonal rituals, and leave a review so more listeners can find the show. #AutumnEquinox #WheelOfTheYear #SeasonalLiving Thank you for supporting Belief, Being, & BEYOND! How To: A Guide to Divination | JoAnna Farrer author of The Diviner’s Path

Text or VM the Show You can learn a lot of tarot keywords and still feel stuck the moment a real question hits. We wanted to get underneath that frustration and talk about what actually makes divination work: listening, timing, symbolism, and the courage to respond. Our guest JoAnna Ferrar (Llewellyn author, priestess, divination teacher, and professional violinist) brings a rare blend of musical training and spiritual practice that makes the “language” of signs feel practical instead of mystical and vague.  We dig into why silence matters as much as sound and how pauses create the space where intuition can speak. JoAnna walks us through her nature-led approach from The Diviner Path, including the idea that divination is a cycle you live inside: realizing you have a question, shaping it, choosing a method (tarot, pendulum, runes, omens), interpreting, taking action, and returning to reflect. We also talk about the modern “party trick” version of divination and why it can feel scary when you skip the action step and forget you’re a participant in the conversation.  From there we head outdoors for augury, omen walks, and the art of rebuilding observation in the natural world, then into dream divination without rigid dream dictionaries. Joanna shares how symbols blend cultural meaning with deeply personal associations and why “spirit logic is sideways logic.” We also explore her devotion to Apollo and the link between technique and inspiration, plus a playful M&M divination practice that proves spirit can speak through almost anything when you learn how to listen.  If this conversation helps you rethink how you ask questions and read signs, subscribe, share it with a friend, and leave us a review so more listeners can find the show. JoAnna Ferrar is a Llewellyn author, priestess, divination teacher, oracular practitioner, professional violinist, and host of the Coffee & Divination podcast.  JoAnna's background as a professional musician and graduate of the Juilliard School has made her uniquely attuned to the world of symbols and their nuanced interpretations—a skill she brings to her work in divination. She is a coven leader and teacher. Her book, The Diviner’s Path, offers a nature-led approach to divination with tarot, runes, pendulums, and omens. JoAnna’s work explores land-based divination, animism, seer work, and practical ways of connecting with our intuition and the spirits around us.  JoAnna is the host of the Coffee and Divination podcast, which she launched in 2020 to feature interviews with prominent authors and practitioners of occult, pagan, and divinatory arts. Easy Daily Spiritual Ritual | A Witch & A Shaman... 100th Episode Celebration

Text or VM the Show Your day is already full, so we’re not here to hand you another impossible checklist. We’re here to help you turn what you already do into a daily ritual that actually feels nourishing, grounded, and doable. Jenny C Bell and I start with the simplest foundation: if you have a routine, you can make it spiritually minded. That can be as small as greeting the sun or the moon, taking one breath before coffee, or speaking your day with clear intention.    From there, we get specific with real-world spiritual practices for busy witches and spiritual practitioners. We talk about “double duty” rituals like brushing your teeth with a prayer for clean words, using small visual cues on your everyday items to trigger affirmations, charging jewelry as a talisman, and letting a shower become an energetic cleanse. Jenny shares how parenting and structure can support spirituality, including a quick Archangel Michael protection prayer in the car that helps everyone reset before the day begins.    We also go deeper into daily practice tools: greeting your home and the room you work in, calling in the four elements, making offerings, smoke cleansing with mugwort (plus alternatives for smoke season), and pulling tarot and oracle cards to track what energy is leaving and what’s coming in. We end with two powerful closers: a nightly candle ritual and “a prayer for the people” as a way to release what you’ve been carrying, plus journaling tips that include gratitude journaling, voice notes, and a simple question you can write before sleep to invite clarity through dreams.    If you try any of these daily rituals, tell us what changed for you, then subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find Belief Being and Beyond.  #DailyRitual #SpiritualPractice #Witchcraft #EverydayMagic #Spirituality  Thank you for supporting Belief, Being, & BEYOND! A Native Greek Priestess Reviving the Lost Earth Temple Arts | Elyse Welles Author of Sacred Wild

Text or VM the Show The land is not a backdrop. It is a relationship and once you start treating it that way, your whole spiritual life changes.   We’re joined by Elyse Welles, best-selling author of Sacred Wild and a modern Greek priestess devoted to reviving earth temple arts of the Mediterranean. We talk about how her childhood split between Greece and rural Pennsylvania made land-connection feel normal, not mystical, and why that matters for anyone trying to heal from rigid dogma or spiritual disconnection. From Artemis and sacred springs to a tree you can cry against, we explore what it means to be shaped by place instead of trying to force spirituality into a single “right” framework.    From there, we dig into Elyse’s idea of spiritual archaeology: going to a place you feel called to and “excavating” through ritual, trance, sound, and active listening before you ever reach for research. We also address a question we hear constantly: can you connect to the land if you’re not Indigenous to it? Elyse breaks down the difference between respectful relationship and borrowed customs, and she shares simple practices anyone can start today, even if you live in an apartment and your sacred space is a nearby park or a small patch of green.    We also get into the songs of the land, frame drum work, and why some melodies belong to one river, one hillside, one season. Elyse shares what her immersive pilgrimages in Greece actually look like, why she keeps groups small, and how dream oracle work and sacred waters change the way you move through the world.   If you enjoyed this conversation, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs a way back to the Earth, and leave a review so more listeners can find the show.
