S5 EP158 The Dress Rehearsal Is Over

Pre-season is officially over for Bolton Wanderers, and the new campaign is finally ready to begin. In Episode 158 of the Trotter Chatter Podcast, we look back at Wanderers’ 1-0 victory over NAC Breda and assess how prepared Steven Schumacher’s side appear ahead of their return to competitive action. We discuss another decisive contribution from Ruben Rodrigues, the latest lively display from Thierry Gale, Sam Dalby’s role at the top of the pitch and the midfield battle between Josh Sheehan, Xavier Simons and David Watson. We also assess Bolton’s developing back four, the performances of Ben Davies, Chris Forino and Akin Famewo, plus the first appearance of Gaizka Larrazabal. Attention then turns to the League Cup as Wanderers travel to Hillsborough to face a completely rebuilt Sheffield Wednesday side. With former Bolton players Ricardo Santos and Mason Burstow potentially lining up against the Whites, we preview the key battles, debate Schumacher’s starting XI and ask whether Bolton can end their poor recent record at Hillsborough. Elsewhere, we discuss the reported £5 million investment from Bolton’s new American backers, the latest transfer rumours involving Asmir Begovic, Luke Cundle, Tyrese Hall and Chiedozie Ogbene, as well as the latest arrivals and departures from the squad. We also make our quick-fire predictions for the Premier League, Championship, League One and League Two, reveal our squad and score predictions, tackle a Sheffield-themed Blind Rank and launch the new Trotter Chatter Fantasy League. S5 EP157 Investments, Impressions & One Final Test

Bolton Wanderers’ pre-season preparations are approaching their final stages, and Episode 156 of the Trotter Chatter Podcast is packed with the latest discussion from around the Toughsheet Community Stadium. We reflect on Wanderers’ goalless draw against Premier League opposition Everton, assessing the impressive defensive display, the performances of the new signings and the players pushing their way into Steven Schumacher’s strongest XI. We also review the trip to Fleetwood Town, where a heavily rotated Bolton side needed a late Thierry Gale equaliser, and discuss what the performance told us about the depth of the current squad. Away from the pitch, we take a closer look at the new minority investment from Entrepreneur Equity Partners, what it could mean for the club’s Championship ambitions and Schumacher’s admission that Wanderers still need at least five more players. There’s also the latest transfer news and rumours, including updates on Kieran Morrison, Amario Cozier-Duberry, Johnny Kenny and Bolton’s search for another goalkeeper. Finally, we preview the last major pre-season test against NAC Breda, debate whether Schumacher should now field his expected opening-day side and ask whether results are beginning to matter as the Championship campaign draws closer.
