    I met Chris at a café in Vancouver. There's nothing much to stay about this café, except that it hosts a group bringing together native Chinese speakers and Chinese learners, every week.  I quickly realized that Chris and I had something in common—aside from being two white guys who enjoy immersing ourselves in Mandarin.  We also share a passion for movies.  I’m really glad to have Chris on the podcast for the final episode of the year.  In our conversation, we dive into topics like the "monastic" way of learning Chinese, Trump’s popularity in China, retirement home for young people exhausted from the « 996 », and of course, his favorite films.

Writing your homework and presenting your thesis exclusively in mandarin? Well..., that’s exactly what we did! Today, I’m thrilled to share an episode featuring Dom Hopking, the first UK Cinematography postgraduate from the Beijing Film Academy. No matter how wild his experiences get, Dom always manages to land on his feet with charm and lovely sense of humor.     La nuit ne tombe jamais vraiment sur Hong Kong. "Avec l'humidité, la lumière de la ville rebondit sur les nuages".  La première fois que j'ai rencontré Paul, c'était sur un toit de Kowloon, juste à côté de Chungking Mansions. Plus tard, nos chemins se sont recroisés à Pékin, à Boston, et dans les forêts des Laurentides, près de Québec.     La première fois que j’ai rencontré Pauline, c’était en 2018 à « La Plantation », une ancienne usine désaffectée de la banlieue nord-ouest de Pékin, reconvertie en salle de concert. C’était un espace culturel extraordinaire, qui accueillait des concerts et des expositions, où elle était comme un poisson dans l’eau.  Après quelques péripéties et de nombreuses aventures, Pauline vient de rentrer à Pékin. Entre deux tasses de thé, elle partage avec nous : Sa découverte de la langue chinoise au collège dans l’Aveyron, L’histoire de la création du studio DEYI 德逸 avec ses deux partenaires, Sa vision du « Handmade in China... with Love! », Ses coups de coeur artistiques et culturels.     Avez-vous déjà entendu parler de Hengdian, le Hollwyood Chinois ? C’est dans cette ville, au sud que Shanghai, que sont tournées la grande majorité des productions, destinées aussi bien au petit qu’au grand écran.  Aujourd’hui, nous recevons Yang, une actrice chinoise installée à Paris, qui revient d’un tournage de deux semaines à Hengdian.  Yang nous raconte les conditions extrêmes de certains tournages en Chine, bien différentes de ses expériences sur les plateaux français. Elle nous explique également comment sa nomination au Festival de Cannes a ravivé son envie d’apprendre le Français.  Elle nous confie ses coups de coeur en matière de cinéma chinois et français, ainsi que son cinéma favori à Paris.  Bonne écoute à toutes et à tous !

    Can you imagine being in the middle of Australia at 5 am, gearing up for a day of filming with George Miller, Chris Hemsworth, and Anya Taylor-Joy? I have no idea how that would make you feel, but our guest today certainly knows the feeling.  I met Jason in 2016 on a soccer field at the Beijing Film Academy in China. Right from the start, he was very friendly, and we quickly became football buddies.  A few years later, out of all our football friends, he’s the one who has gained the most experience working on major Hollywood movies all around the globe. Today, he shares his experience working on "Furiosa" as a key member of the Assistant Directing team, known in the industry as the AD team.
