YDIGAF

A cross-cultural conversation between friends, hosted by JoHanna ”J” Thompson and Diane Tate. In these times of great struggle and possible shift, we ask ourselves, why do we give a f&$k about any of it? How does the lens we see the world through, impact what we see, and what do we do about it?

Why Do I Give a F&$k about "Street Tea"- Pay to Play | Tré Kayumba

For their second episode of Street Tea, J and Diane welcome special guest Tré Kayumba, Director of Yabantu, Inc. to the podcast to talk about what he gives a F&$k about -pay to play in youth sports. They have a great discussion about the economic blocks for youth, especially those living in poverty and/or from marginalized groups, to access sports- specifically football (aka soccer) in the US. Tré shares his lived experience with immigrating to the US and how these blocks increased his challenges for acclimation to a new society, as well as the benefits of playing organized sports that he sees through his son's experience. Tré is the director of Yabantu, Inc, a local non-profit in Bridgeport, CT that supports and works collaboratively to address the issues of racism & poverty through targeted initiatives.  A foundational philosophy of Yabantu is Ubuntu which is:      "We are made to live in a delicate network of interdependence with one another.       A person is a person through other persons.        A solitary human being is a contradiction in terms.       A totally self-sufficient human being is ulitmately sub-human.       We are made for complimentarity.       I have gifts that you do not; and you have gifts that I do not.       So, we need each other to become fully human."                                                      ~Bishop Desmond Tutu You can see Yabantu, Inc.'s latest newsletter to find out how to support them in their efforts!  #YabantuInc #Ubuntu #football #LiverpoolFootballClub #paytoplay #youthsports #Bridgeport #Connecticut #noIinteam #ydigafpodcast
