    (#022) Leadership Lessons from Antarctica

Ever wonder what it takes to lead a mission in the coldest, most unforgiving place on Earth?  In this episode of Antarctica Did That For Me, we (your hosts, Keri Nelson and Cassa Grant) dive into the tricky terrain of leading a team in Antarctica. From the hierarchical “my way or the highway” approach of Captain Scott… to the more democratic style of Sir Ernest Shackleton, we discuss the leadership secrets that can make or break an expedition in the world’s harshest environment.  We also dig into what we learned about leadership from our co-workers during our time in Antarctica, an environment that can bring out the best and the worst in folks. Whether you’re planning your own Antarctic adventure, or just trying to lead yourself out of bed in the morning, this episode has something for you.  We’ll show you why being relatable, flexible, and authentic are the real superpowers of any leader, especially when the going gets tough.  Plus, we’ll let you in on a little secret: the most important leader you’ll ever have is YOU. (#021) Chasing Illusions: the Mystique of Antarctic Mirages

Ever thought you had it all figured out, only to discover that life had a plot twist waiting for you?  In this episode of Antarctica Did That For Me, we (your hosts, Keri Nelson and Cassa Grant) are diving into the world of mirages. Specifically, we explore Antarctic mirages, which are called Fata Morgana— tricky optical illusions that mess with your mind and make you see things that aren’t really there.  You’ll hear all about how our expectations of Antarctica didn’t exactly match up with reality. (Spoiler alert: it’s not all penguins and glaciers.)  We’ll also dish on the not-so-glamorous side of working with large government organizations like the US Antarctic Program—because, surprise, even the most “stable” systems can have their wobbly moments. But here’s the twist: when things don’t go as planned, that’s when the magic happens.  This episode will make you rethink your own experiences and how unexpected detours might just be the best part of the journey. So… prepare to see Antarctica—and maybe even your own life—in a whole new light.  Who knows? You might just find that the things that didn’t go as planned were exactly what you needed. (#020) Imposter Syndrome and Antarctica Adventure

Ever heard the words “Who am I to do this?” rattling around in your head, even when you’re crushing it? Yep, us too.  In this episode of Antarctica Did That For Me, we (your hosts, Keri Nelson and Cassa Grant) dive headfirst into imposter syndrome—because if there’s one thing that doesn’t get left behind when you go to Antarctica, it’s self-doubt! Adventurers and Antarcticans also have those “I’m not good enough” moments… often in spades. We talk about our own experiences with imposter syndrome, especially when it comes to taking big leaps and daring adventures.  Whether you’re scaling a glacier or just trying to scale the corporate ladder, that nagging voice in your head asking, “Who am I to do this?” can be crippling. And it’s not just all in your head; there are institutional roadblocks and systemic factors that can make that self-doubt feel even heavier.  But guess what? You’re not alone. We’ll explore how imposter syndrome shows up differently for everyone—sometimes it’s a whisper, sometimes it’s a roar.  But here’s the good news: we’ve got the tools to fight back. This episode is packed with practical insights on how to kick imposter syndrome to the curb. So, if you’ve ever wondered, “Who do I think I am?”—this episode is your antidote.  Liked this show? (#018) I Am Antarctican, Who Am I?

How do you define yourself? Is it through things like: where you live, your job, your family? Is it with places you've been or people you know? This is what this episode of Antarctica Did That For Me is all about- how we create identities for ourselves. When people call themselves Antarctican, what do they really mean? What identity characteristics define Antarcticans? Antarctica is not only a physical continent, but also a community and society with a distinctive culture.  In this conversation, we (your hosts, Keri and Cassa) discuss the term Antarctican, and what we learned during our time on The Ice, as well as how that's affected us when we're not in Antarctica. We discuss resiliency, creativity, individualism, and openness to new experiences, along with talking about the ways Antarcticans develop community and deal with challenging situations. Join us for a lively discussion about a community that embraces adventure and confronts itself while experiencing a unique and embracing adventure. Liked this show? PLEASE LEAVE US A REVIEW! (#016) Love On Ice - Romance in Antarctica

"Relationships in Antarctica feel bigger, the highs are higher and the lows are lower."- Keri Nelson This episode of Antarctica Did That For Me is all about L-O-V-E - or something like that. We (your hosts Keri Nelson and Cassa Grant) share our stories of love, romance, and relationships in Antarctica, and why we think love on the ice is so special. There are the challenges and intensity of relationships in such a unique environment and close-knit community. There’s the potential for both lasting love and heartbreak. And there can be first dates 30 feet under the ice. When everyone has roommates and is living very close quarters, the logistics of love can get awkward, to say the least.  And breakups and unrequited love can be particularly difficult in Antarctica because of the close proximity and limited options for social interaction. Navigating relationships in Antarctica is not for the faint of heart, but then again, navigating them anywhere in the world isn’t, either. Liked this show? PLEASE LEAVE US A REVIEW!
