The Good Shizz

Cait Davies

There is no limit and no end. No one single description or definition or 'destination ' that can perfectly tell of, or sum up, creativity. But, that’s the beauty of it... and it can be so diverse and so fluid and so different for everyone. And also, so fragile. We're on a mission to connect with Artists, Songwriters, Composers and Producers. Music lovers who have a voice and want to use it to share, discover and discuss. Stories, thoughts, processes and opinions. Unpicking creativity and discovering inspiration. We want to get down to that itty bitty, nitty, gritty, GOOD SHIZZ.

In Conversation with Night Flight - Episode 5

Hello and welcome back to The Good Shizz. My name is Cait, I’m your host, and this week, Take 5, I’m in conversation with Sam Holmes and Harry Phillips from one of my all-time favourite bands, and I’m really not just saying that, Night Flight. Night Flight’s music has been a long-time companion of mine, and to sit down with Sam and Harry to talk about their creative process and the making of their latest record, Exit Stage Left, was honestly a bit surreal. This offering marks a new era for the band in their first collaboration with producer Caradog Jones, and whilst the new record is unmistakably Night Flight, there’s a real broadening of their sound. It feels more dynamic in scope, but it's still rooted in that emotional honesty that’s always defined their music. Since forming in 2017, Night Flight have carved out an impressively rich body of work, with a consistency and depth that not many independent bands achieve. Their self-titled debut landed in 2018, followed by Songs from Echo Zoo in 2023, and now, Exit Stage Left in 2025. In the balance of these alubms though, we can’t forget, their White Noise and English Noise EPs, along with their beautifully understated cover of Elliott Smith’s Say Yes, which has gone on to reach over three million streams. Across that catalogue, they’ve built a sound that’s rich, evolving, introspective, intricate, and beautifully assured. In this episode we talk about all things music, the shifts in their sound, how they write together, the making of the record, and what it means to keep creating after years of growth and change. For me, this conversation was a genuine highlight; a chance to speak with two musicians who’ve inspired me endlessly. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

In Conversation with Tom Donald - Episode 4

Hello and welcome back to The Good Shizz… my name is Cait, I’m your host, and this week, take 4… an absolute epic... with Tom Donald. I have known and have worked with Tom for a number of years. We first met back in 2016, I'd quit my full-time job in recruitment, and I was on a mission to work in music. Fast forward almost a decade, and we’re still working together. Safe to say, we’ve been through a hell of a lot. Tom’s work as a musician is by no means a singular pursuit… A producer, musical director, coach, composer, film composer. When he’s not being compared to giants like Jarrett, you might find him playing a concert at the top of The Shard… or jamming with a coenobium of monks in the Scottish Highlands. Tom is many things… to many people. He has played such a huge part in changing my relationship with music and over the years, and as the Head of School and founder of The London Contemporary School of Piano, I have personally witnessed him changing the musical relationships of hundreds, if not thousands of people all over the world. He has an insatiable appetite for life, music, and business. I’ve rarely - if ever - seen him have an off day. He’s just a relentless problem solver, the kind of person who sees every mistake or failing as an opportunity to learn something. For musicians like me… without leaders, risk-takers, and innovators like Tom, who knows where we’d be? But luckily, that’s not the case. I can’t wait for you to hear this episode. Here’s my conversation, with Tom Donald
