Gregg Bell Show 7-2: Team USA! Anders Hirst and Steve Phillips

This World Cup is off the hook, and the US fans are showing UP in Seattle. Players are commenting on how they've never seen anything like the Seattle crowds, and Gregg agrees. This is a unifying event that is unlike other sporting event. Anders Hirst, World Cup Host tells us his biggest impressions of the USA win yesterday. He credits Mauricio Pochettino for what he's been able to do with this team and the calm demeanor he was able to maintain during extremely stressful time in the second half after the red card. Regarding the red card, Anders says if you look at it in a vacuum, it's not worthy of the penalty. Anders says the worst part of it is the inconsistency with which VAR is being used. Anders explains how the VAR works in-game. Finally, we preview Monday's match, which both he and Gregg contend will be the biggest event in Seattle sports history.  StubHub is essentially scamming people once again, and Gregg warns against the secondary sites if people are looking to buy tickets. It's a shame seeing people spend so much time and money to travel to get turned away so StubHub can turn a profit. FIFA is in control of all of the tickets and only distributes them about an hour before the match begins. Gregg gives warnings. Steve Phillips, former Mets GM and Analyst for Sirius XM and MLB Network tells Gregg what he experienced as a GM in his relationships with his managers and how that's changed over the years. He definitely thinks Jerry Dipoto has an exact plan to win games but doesn't necessarily think it impedes Dan Wilson. Steve is ok with the piggyback situation for a period of time, as the Mariners are likely keeping everyone fresh as they push toward the postseason. He would rather save innings than shutting anyone down by sending them to AAA. Steve believes Cal Raleigh will get back to form and discusses the importance of getting hit early in the lineup. Finally, we are one month from the trade deadline and Steve tells us what the mentality is for a GM at this time of year. We listen to FOX World Cup analyst Mark Clatteberg's take on the red card Folarin Balogun received yesterday, which he doesn't think was warranted. Mauricio Pochettino shares the same sentiment. We check in on your texts! Finally, we talk to Ian. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

6-30: Mariners win, Seahawks sale and Jim Bowden

George Kirby had a masterful night on the mound yesterday and we hear from him and Dan Wilson about going a full eight innings. Plus, Justin Hollander has some words for the 'lunatic fringe' of fans who are criticizing his training staff. While he has the right to speak up for his staff, Gregg doesn't think he made the right choice of wording. For a fanbase that's never tasted a World Series, they have a right to be frustrated. Dan Wilson changed the lineup last night and it worked out well for Cal Raleigh hitting 6th, not to mention the lineup produced 6 runs, the most they've output in 14 games. Gregg would put Cole Young in the 2-hole and contends he's the most valuable player in the lineup right now. Plus, what can Buddy Kennedy offer this team?  Bloomberg published a story about the Seahawks sale, and the first round of bidding was set to end yesterday. The big names out there are not local, but Gregg is hearing there is a local whale in play. Jim Bowden, The Athletic, CBS Sports and Sirius XM tells Gregg that Jerry Dipoto and Justin Hollander are absolutely hands on when it comes to first-time manager Dan Wilson, but it's due to giving him guidance and limiting mistakes, rather than being overbearing. He also breaks down the pitching situation with the piggyback and the 6-man rotation. He thinks the best way to handle Luis Castillo is to put him in the bullpen. Jim also says this is absolutely the Mariners' window and if he were them, he'd be doing anything he could to get the pieces they need to win. He also previews the trade deadline and he would not sit back and wait when it comes to the trade pieces they have. We check your texts and talk to Ian!
