    The Descent of Inanna and the Shadow Gifts of Venus Retrograde

    Right now, Venus is retrograde in Scorpio, moving backward into Libra. Relationships, marriage, intimacy. Death, change, transformation. Things that go bump in the night. It’s all here. We are in a collective purge, and in order to participate with some semblance of grace, a deeper understanding of Reality is necessary.     Does Free Will Exist?

    Can’t I create my own reality? What about self-will? Aren’t I in charge? These are all common questions of spiritual seekers. The way the inquiry is addressed depends on the context. Of course, from the relative point of view, there is cause and effect. One takes an action, there is an outcome. It appears we have a separate free will. However, some of us are determined seekers, digging further into the nature of reality, the Unfolding Now, which is determined by an infinite number of causes and effects occurring simultaneously in this exact moment, here and now. When we settle into and as that Absolute Presence, which is unmoving and unchanging, the non-existence of a separate actor is realized. In this clip — a short conversation with a seeker who has kindly given permission to share — I offer a simple exercise to inquire into the nature of free will. Together, we look: Who is the doer of the action, after all? Am I in control? Have I ever been entirely responsible for the outcome of “my” actions? How did this talk resonate?     Honesty Will Lead You Where You Need to Be

    Today I am sharing a short embodied wisdom talk given to a group of women on the topic of Honesty, Self-Care, and the Inner Child. In this clip, I discuss the absolute importance of not abandoning the more vulnerable parts of self, no matter what. And how, when we commit ourselves to radical self-care, we can have any discussion with another person, whether friend, partner, relative, client - anyone.     Surrendering to the Ocean of Existence

    What happens when we surrender the thing that is causing us the most pain? Can we trust that the Divine is going to handle it, without our continued interference? In this episode, I offer an exercise in embodied wisdom. An opportunity to lay down whatever is causing you continual, repeated interference and distress. Could be anxiety-provoking, depressing, agonizing, nagging, tiring, or confusing. This practice - that of offering a major issue to the Ocean of Existence - is a means of collaborating with All That Is. It is a practice in SURRENDER. Take a moment for yourself here. Set aside 20 minutes, grab your journal, and get in touch with that one area of your life that is really doing a number on you.     NON-DUALITY 101

    Today’s podcast is excerpted from a recent satsang talk, an introduction to some of the basic pointers of non-dual wisdom. In Sanskrit, non-duality is known as Advaita, or “not two.” In this talk, I discuss 👇🏼👇🏾👇🏼👇 The basic pointer - there is no individual doer of any action The peace that comes to the ego with acceptance of its place in Totality “Events happen, deeds are done, but there is no individual doer thereof.” The Ocean, the Wave, and the Drop of Water as a model of Consciousness Ego’s mistaking itself as separate from Ocean as a definition of suffering The role of deep Listening (Śravaṇa in Sanskrit) in relaxing into the next happening, or movement in Consciousness The breath and its critical role in transitions to avoid injury, whether physical or psychological The relief from existential suffering that is possible with non-dual understanding You may wish to listen to this more than once.     Where Am I?

    In this satsang talk on non-duality (Advaita, or “not two," I discuss the vichara, a Sanskrit term for the process of investigation, discrimination, and Self-inquiry often used in the Vedantic tradition. This is considered a practice of jñāna (wisdom), or yoga of knowledge. “Where Am I?” and the Vichara In this short clip, I explain the inquiry of “Where Am I?” which is similar to yet slightly different than the standard one known by many through Ramana Maharshi, that of “Who Am I?” Here, inquiring into the locus of the arising of the individual self has been a more effective pointer than “who.” Although, it does not matter what words are chosen in the investigation; what is most important is the effectiveness in bringing about an experiencing or awareness of spaciousness. Ultimately, there is a seeing and a full apprehension that there is no one there – no separate, individual doer. Thoughts without a thinker, seeing without a seer, experiencing without an experiencer. If one looks – with sincerity and whole, open-mind – one may ultimately see that there is no central operating mechanism. This seeing and knowing may also happen at any time, regardless of the inquiry practice. While this might seem to be an advanced teaching or the words and pointers might seem bizarre or foreign, almost anyone can receive some benefit from listening – something will go in, somewhere. In the beginning of this clip, I am paraphrasing from my teacher Ramesh Balsekar’s book, Consciousness Writes (Zen Publications, 1996, p. 21). In the second part of the video, I lead satsang participants in a short, guided meditation – into their own self-inquiry of “Where Am I? If you prefer to skip the philosophical pointers and go right to the meditative inquiry, go straight to minute 7:00. Viewers and listeners may wish to sit somewhere comfortably and quietly to try this out for themselves.
