    Waiting to feel worthy?

I had something to say as a dad, and a good reason to say it. One of my kids was watching a show I wasn’t comfortable with. I knew I should speak up. But I was carrying guilt from a battle I was still losing, and that guilt shut my mouth. That’s what condemnation does. It doesn’t just make you feel bad. It takes you out of the game. For a long time, my plan was to clean myself up first. String together some good weeks, get my act together, and then maybe I’d earn the right to lead. So I tried harder. I failed again. And the voice got louder. Maybe you know that cycle. You love your family. You want to lead. But you’re waiting for the day you finally feel worthy enough. That day isn’t coming. And it doesn’t need to. In Episode 2 of The Family Champ Podcast, I walk through Step 1 of Who Am I to Lead?: Know Who You Are in Christ. It’s built on the verse that changed everything for me: “For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.” Hebrews 10:14 Not improved. Perfected. Not until your next failure. For all time. This week’s challenge: Write Hebrews 10:14 on a card and put it where you’ll see it every day. Every time the voice tells you you’re disqualified, read it out loud. Then say it plainly: “My standing with God rests on what Jesus did, not on what I did.” One question to sit with this week: What would change in your home if you truly believed God isn’t keeping score? If you haven’t grabbed the book yet, Who Am I to Lead? is free at robmthompson.com/lead. It comes with a 5-day email course that walks you through one step a day. You weren’t qualified. You were called. Rob This is a public episode. If you'd like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit familychamp.substack.com/subscribe

    Who Am I To Lead?

There’s a question that kept me on the couch for years. I wanted to lead my family. I knew my wife and kids needed a spiritual leader, and I knew God had put that role on me. I wanted to pray over my kids at night and open God’s Word with them. But every night after dinner, I found the couch. A game, a movie, whatever was on. It wasn’t that I didn’t care. I was numbing myself. Guilt told me I had no right to lead anybody, and the TV was the easiest way to quiet that voice. Maybe you know that feeling. You love your family. You want to lead. But somewhere between the desire and the couch, the same question keeps coming up: Who am I to lead? Moses asked God almost those exact words at the burning bush. And God’s answer wasn’t “you’re better than you think.” It was a promise: “I will be with you” (Exodus 3:12). That’s what this week’s episode of The Family Champ Podcast is about. It kicks off Season 2, where I’m walking through my new book, Who Am I to Lead?, one step at a time. Listen to Season 2, Episode 1: [episode link] You’ll also get a simple challenge for this week. It takes 30 seconds in your driveway, and it puts God’s promise to Moses on your lips right when you used to reach for the remote. And if you want the whole thing now, the book is free. It’s short: five steps, a few pages each. When you grab it, you also get a 5-day email course that walks you through one step a day. Get the free book: robmthompson.com/lead You weren’t qualified.
