(Turn back time by Cher plays as Cher walks on stage) Cher: Thank you! Trevor Noah: Cher before you carry on, I will let you finish, but before then I have the honor of presenting this legend, Cher, with the lifetime achievement award 2026! Congratulations! I can hold this while you do this, it's up to you. Cher: No... yeah. Trevor Noah: I'll hold it, I'll I'll give it back I promise. Cher: Thank you, oh sit down please. I don't do this part very well, I mean put a microphone in my hand and have some music I'm great. Um, I first want to thank the recording academy for, you know, giving me this lifetime achievement award, and it's a good thing that they did it now because I have good genes and I wouldn't have been here that much longer. Okay. I knew what I wanted to be when I was 5 years old and um, I was famous at 19, and had a top rated show at, um, in my twenties actually. But, uh, I thought, I kinda had thought I had it made, it didn't occur to me how rough my career was gonna be and my life was gonna be and I'm not saying "oh poor me" but whatever. Um. But, uh, I was, I really was either on the top or the bottom, you know, I, I was either a loser or winning an oscar so its been, you know, I'm sure a lot of you in the audience know what I'm talking about you know so, but um. In the early 80s it got so bad that I had to go to Las Vegas and um, well it was called "The Elephant's Graveyard" in those days and I got a, uh, and I got dropped from my label and then I, another label picked me up, and I recorded a song called Believe, and (Applause) and I was, I was the first artist to use Auto-Tune. (Applause) so yeah. We didn't call, we did, there was no such thing as "Auto-Tune," it was a pitch machine, you guys are gonna know what I'm talking about right. So anyway, um, the thing I want to tell you, the only thing I wanted you to take away with you, and I've been in this business for 60 f*****g years. (Applause) But I just want to tell you never give up on your dream no matter what happens. Live it, be it, and if it's not happening now, it will happen soon. So that's all I have to say. Thank you. Thank you. (Applause) Thank you, thank you. Thank you. I guess I'm supposed to walk off now. Alright, I have to walk off now. Walking away (Applause) Trevor Noah: Before you go, before you go Cher, uh, Cher before you go. Could we get you to announce the nominees? I could do it, but its not the same, I don't have, I don't have the track record. Welcome back Cher everybody! Cher: You can see I wanted to get off the stage. So okay, so these are the outs, the years outstanding nominees for best record of the year. (Clip montage) And the grammy goes to... (Long Pause) OH (laughs) They told me it was gonna be on the prompter. OH!! The Grammy goes to Luther Vandross! (Applause) Oh, Kendrick, no Kendrick Lamar!!!
